That reminds me of some fun software trivia: (this gets kind of rambling but you need the context) the Windows media player called "Winamp" was a big deal in the early days of high-speed internet, most Windows users used it to listen to mp3s they downloaded. The program had "skins", small packages of images you could download which would change the appearance of the player. A lot of people made skins for their favourite TV shows and sports teams, etc. When the program went from one version to the next, usually the basic shape of the player changed so that skins from the previous versions won't work with the current version, so people would specify which version their skin was for. When I first started using Winamp, it had just gone from version 2 to 3, so many websites with collections of skins would have one link to "Winamp 2 skins" and a different one for "Winamp 3 skins". And now we finally get to the point: when the next version was ready, they called it Winamp 5, even though 4 had never been released. Cool! Another Nintendo console with still a paying online without it be free unlike the good old time when the Wii, Wii U and 3DS was able to offer you the free online, expensive games price even if it a lazy port such Luigi's Mansion 2 being more expensive on the Switch than the 3DS and with nothing for Star Fox, F-Zero, Kid Icarus and Tomodachi Life new fresh game, port or remaster, a lack of Metroid, Donkey Kong Contry, Pikmin and Animal Crossing games and a lot of favoritism toward the cash grab game with more than 10 Mario and Pokemon games, 6 Kirby games and 7 Zelda games just like the Nintendo Switch could offer you in 7 years? Yeah... No thanks bro!
By producing a lot of consoles at launch, especially if it's a new Switch, it might be able to somewhat capture the Pokemon Go Effect. The new hybrid system launches, and it's a huge success. Everyone is carrying one around, making others want to join in.
I hope there are a lot of units available at launch and readily available. I'm finally in a position financially, that this will (hopefully) be the first time I've ever bought a console on launch day, instead of over a year later.
New system supporting prev. system too, nso compatible, amiibo, stronger, improved screen, good stand. Gonna be a blast. Hope new f-zero comes to that console.
They mentioned they want to fight the scalpers by just supplying enough console units. So regardless of if the leak is false we at least know they’ll probably support more than the switch’s launch
I remember sitting at work, reading the design specs for the NX that got leaked and getting myself so hyped. When it was properly revealed I was able to get one day one and it was exactly what I'd hoped with Breath of the Wild
Btw I didnt buy a Switch until 2019, and havent had any of the hardware issues other people commonly complained about. I feel like Nintendo were quietly able to improve the build quality of the Switch over its life. Which makes me a little reluctant be a day one Switch 2 adopter.
Surely it would be cool if this time they make a console with a controller that has a screen. So you could play the game with two screens ( for example the world map and inventory are shown on the controller) or you could play it entirely on the controller (as long as you're close to the console of course). Surely this would be a success. Surely.
Considering I've had a stash of money prepared since january this year for the express purpose of buying this console as soon as I can, it's nice to know that it'll be in stock.
With the HUGE installed base of the first Switch it makes sense to flood the market with Switch 2's at launch. And Nintendo will get all the money, not the scalpers!
Part of it is confidence. But it's also part of their strategy to make sure that everyone who wants a switch successor can get it regardless of scalpers scalping.
Hoping my Switch lasts til launch... The thing's started going into sleep mode at higher and higher battery readings, and I would love if it lasted all the way. Have had it since Smash Ult's release.
There's only one case of it that I believe was true, and that was the NES cartridge chips in the 80s, specifically for the 3rd party publishers. And that was probably driven by the memories of the glut of games in the early 80s that killed Atari more than a conspiracy to drive up game priced. But absolutely no one would create an artificial scarcity of their consoles. There is zero incentive for the manufacturer to have potential customers walk away empty handed.
Also for me, if the successor doesn't launch with a BOTW level game, i wont be getting it for at least the first year. I still use my switch with no problems. I have an OLED as well. I need an open adventure thats kinda cozy with some fighting
I thought about i a few days ago. In 2017 Nintendo doesn´t had there own online shop where the sell physical copys of games, consoles and merchandise. Now they have one. They can sell lot´s of consoles on there own without giving revenue to other stores and shop. They would lot´s of more money in that way selling the Switch 2 in there own online store to NSO members.
What’s the harm in having extra units if they could theoretically make that happen. I remember once upon a time I walked into a store and bought my GameCube on launch day at like 7 pm. I think if they could do that again with full backwards compatibility for the original switch it’s a slam dunk for a PR win and major blow to scalper culture
I think this confidence is warranted I don’t care that my switch works as well as the day I bought it… I’m buying the switch 2 day one. The backwards compatibility means it’s a hardware upgrade on all the games I love with bells and whistles. I’m their target demographic im already convinced
Switch 2 is the sensible choice, but I would like if they released something with a "wow!" factor. People downplay it now, but the Wii had that for a while. Can Nintendo release a successor to the Switch that still has _some_ kind of fresh new twist that will get people excited? Probably impossible to do.
Switch stock situation in Japan was so bad for the first 8 months that people were buying it from other countries. Hopefully it will be better for Switch 2, but I honestly expect several times worse.

Really need you to talk about Muppet Vision 3D :(
By producing a lot of consoles at launch, especially if it's a new Switch, it might be able to somewhat capture the Pokemon Go Effect.
Switch 360?
Switch X?
Switch 10?
Switch 25?
Switch 2: Electric Boogaloo?
Switch (20)25?
Switch 9001?
Switch Too (long since the last one came out)?
I remember sitting at work, reading the design specs for the NX that got leaked and getting myself so hyped. When it was properly revealed I was able to get one day one and it was exactly what I'd hoped with Breath of the Wild
Btw I didnt buy a Switch until 2019, and havent had any of the hardware issues other people commonly complained about. I feel like Nintendo were quietly able to improve the build quality of the Switch over its life. Which makes me a little reluctant be a day one Switch 2 adopter.
I bet it will sell like hotcakes in America partly in anticipation of their upcoming tariffs 😅
i doubt itll come out before those are in place (but also i know nothing)
I still want to know what the hell they're going to name it.
Explanation points? Here in uk we call them exclamation marks
Literate Americans call them exclamation marks, too. I'm not sure where he came up with that.
I have a day 1 switch. That thing is going into sleep mode at 50% 😭😭😭
The cat snoring is so cute
Came for the journalism. Stayed for the cat snores.
"Anyone who wants one, gets one."
*scalpers entered the chat*
As Ive been saying for months, they will announce in Jan and release in May. Plenty of time to manufacture enough units.
I wanna see some enhanced ports, dammit. 1080/60 botw, 4K Metroid Prime 4. I can't wait to get my hands on it tbh
Nintendo did not create artificial scarcity, ever
There's only one case of it that I believe was true, and that was the NES cartridge chips in the 80s, specifically for the 3rd party publishers. And that was probably driven by the memories of the glut of games in the early 80s that killed Atari more than a conspiracy to drive up game priced. But absolutely no one would create an artificial scarcity of their consoles. There is zero incentive for the manufacturer to have potential customers walk away empty handed.
My cat snores like that too! It's so cute.
DO NOT LEAK!!!!!
topicarlo-heads are eating good this weekend
Still hoping they call it the Switch Super, like the SNES to the NES.
Also for me, if the successor doesn't launch with a BOTW level game, i wont be getting it for at least the first year. I still use my switch with no problems. I have an OLED as well.
I need an open adventure thats kinda cozy with some fighting
Hopefully they can get the shipment in before the new tarrifs take effect
I would die if it gets announced this year.
3 more years. Relax
A Christmas 🎄 Announcement
All people die, regardless of Nintendo's announcements
My guess is that's going to be announced during the game awards
..Or will Nintendo wait till the Switch has dethroned the PS2 as the highest selling console?
Switch 2 is the sensible choice, but I would like if they released something with a "wow!" factor. People downplay it now, but the Wii had that for a while.
Can Nintendo release a successor to the Switch that still has _some_ kind of fresh new twist that will get people excited? Probably impossible to do.
Part of me hopes they hold off so long that Switch 3 rumors start to surface before Switch 2 is officially announced.
Inb4 they call it 'USwitch' and nobody is gonna know its a new console.
I predict the next console will be called a Switch 5, because it gives you 5 ways to play - tv, handheld, dual screen, AR/VR and cloud.
I think if Nintendo just make the next console a more powerful Switch, with a great line up of release titles, it’s a win win.
New hardware sales are typically informed by how well the last piece of hardware did, so it makes sense
Dang Arlo working overtime 😂😂
Switch stock situation in Japan was so bad for the first 8 months that people were buying it from other countries.
Hopefully it will be better for Switch 2, but I honestly expect several times worse.
Nintnedos goal should be 20 million units in the first year which means it needs to produce at least that many.
I'm 80% sure sega took their backstock of unsold dreamcasts and are putting them in used game stores
I think even with 10 million it will somehow be scalped.
I’m assuming the launch game lineup is stacked if Nintendo is that confident which is exciting
well... im definetly not gonna buy one unless the day one model has an oled screen
I have a feeling Nintendo is not going to repeat their mistake of low stock. They're going to have this hard and fast
I'll take anything to fight off the scalpers
It all comes down to the launch games really
I couldn't find a Switch for sell for like the first 4 months, so this is good
i heard their next system will have a big screen on it's controller! such a revolutionary idea i think it will take the world by storm and sell 200 million copies by 2015
