You should look into fall protection training. Glaring is none of your tools are tied off, dropping a hammer on the wrong thing could really cost you. Falling with an improperly fitted harness could be worse.

Improperly fitted and attached harness + fall = broken back (if it catches you) [alternative is even worse]

I wanted to reach out and thank you Joel. I worked my ass off the last 4 months and passed my master electrician exam yesterday. The content you put out helped me understand some of the concepts and kept me motivated.
Just a dumb HVAC guy who is now a Master Electrician.

When I set up my van I used a deep cell battery connected to a 1500 watt full sine wave inverter with gfci protection. It will even run my large hammer drill!
I hearing good reviews on Harbor Freight’s new inverters at a reasonable price point.

Yes you can run a extra battery like that with a continuous solenoid so when the engines running charges the #2 battery

That harness and how you are wearing it will get you hurt bad…. If not worse. You need clipped on to the d ring on your back… not the front. Go to that safety place just off 465 and Emerson and get a real harness.
Also working from heights is rarely a one person job. What happens if someone falls and is knocked out hanging from their harness and are alone?

I have a Rokform combo mount on my phone case; it is stuck on with some VHB and has both a magnet and a Rokform locking mount. I think they make a case with the mount integrated (flush) for iPhones like yours.

If he wanted to phase it, which in this scenario isn’t that important I don’t think because it’s single phase. But you can turn off power and have one guy touch each leg to ground and the other guy on the other end of the run can check for continuity and figure out what’s what

17:50 Phone tether kit like the Ergodyne Squids 3195 Cell Phone Tool Tethering Kit. I have one like it for work at height.
For the full body safety harness I like the 3M™ DBI-SALA ® ExoFit NEX™ Cross-Over Style Positioning/Climbing Harness 1113112, Large. The front D-ring for for vertical lifelines, and a two leg Self-Retracting Lifeline for the work at the top or in a basket.

3:29 That lightning arrestor looks like a Delta LA302. It isn't the MOV type it is SOV or silicone oxide varistor and if the casing is undamaged then it is still good. MOVs are always on and wear out. SOVs have electrodes in the SO compound which insulate until there is an overvoltage event causing the SO to ionize instantaneously conducting the current to ground until voltage returns to normal when the SO instantly solidifies and insulates again. They are widely used and it's surprising you've never run across one before.

Working at heights is not a 1 man job. This video is proof of multiple OSHA violations:)
Go to fall protection training. If you are training your employees to climb like you did, you are asking for some OSHA fines.
In the US your fall arrest lanyard attaches to the dorsal D ring

Also @ 14:51 you had said earlier in the video that the whip was 1.25 inch and that eaton box was only 1/2 3/4 and 1inch, but it looks like you've got threads and a locknut that fit just fine. Did you make the hole in the box bigger or is that some sort of 1-1.25 threaded nipple on the end of the whip?

So…15:56, the smallest conductor should be your grounding conductor… couldn’t you just have rang ground to each wire and which ever one rang out that’s the grounded conductor and then just land your others as hots… I know your not phasing them, but still … in a pinch if it’s bonded down below 🤷‍♂️ …

18:40 how do you know which one is the neutral vs hot? Both are 0V right?

    • @ElectricProAcademy
      @ElectricProAcademy  Рік тому +1

The hots will measure 120V to ground, but 240V to each other. The ground to the neutral will measure 0V, but the ground will almost always be a smaller conductor than the rest. The neutral in this case and in most cases will be the same size as the phase conductors.

My company requires us to wear proper PPE even when testing for power. Must have 600 volt rubber gloves that are sent out every 6 months for inspection then date stamped , canvas gloves over rubber gloves, tinted face shield, PPE rated work jacket , and footwear rated for 1,000 volts. Often wondered how much power these very bright signs consume. Over 35 years ago did some e!ectrical work in a building where two guys would paint the old what maybe 60' long cloth or canvas by hand.Amazing this they would only have a 10" picture to go by. Paid over $25 for a fluke magnet & rubber strap for my meter over 10 years ago. Guy that turned power off MUST install LOTO. When I was the guy using a meter like you I would give the ground man one of my locks and tell him to instal! that lick & his lock on LOTO. OSHA loves giving out fines for not using LOTO. Mid to large companies require you to take an all day safety class then fill paper work then have safety department & chief electrician sign off to finally get an energised work permit.

Adopting the approach of phrasing the issue in a 'positive' rather than 'negative' manner (no pun intended) really works. It's a psychological tool of rephrasing
