That's because he is done with Bond and can finally exhale. He was under a tremendous amount of pressure and although the role was a huge benefit to his career I just think he is relieved that it's over.
Not really Henry Cavil and Tom Hardy can do just as good of a job or maybe better who knows. Also I would say the Batman movies were good because of Nolan direction, good story and great writing of villains not because of Bale although he did play a good Bruce Wayne.

I have been re-watching some of the older Bond films for comparison. Daniel Craig has been so phenomenal in the role that I have to make him the best with Sean Connery being second best. I remember watching Pierce Brosnan many years ago in a show called "Remington Steele" and thought he would make a good Bond. I would give Pierce a very slight edge over Roger Moore. That leaves Timothy Dalton at five and George Lazenby at six as he only did one Bond film.
