FORAGING Food for the DAY -- Touring the High Tunnels

  • Harvesting and foraging food is what we did today in the high tunnels and the garden and yard. Our high tunnels are providing daily "bread" or food so we don't have to eat from our stored foods. Our power was out all day. Who needs ELECTRICITY? We had a great time.

You have no idea how good it was to hear Wanda say "I don't know, I just plant." My labelling was almost a community joke. I'd start off with good intentions, but then things got moved around, transplanted, labels fell off or faded. I would invariably come back with a quote from the Bible...."by their fruits shall ye know them." Sending best wishes for excellent harvests.

When I would come to Florida to visit my parents, I would kill three water moccasins every year in their little tiny pond. Daddy used to bathe in there with the snakes in the alligators. I don’t know how they didn’t bump in to each other it was so small

    • @pamshouse99

Yes they do get aggressive and then usually if you find one there’s a mate to it close by.

I can’t believe I’m awake for the upload 😂 BUT we are in severe storms right now. One tornado already destroyed 4 barns 6 miles ne of us. The cell passed over us and that thunder was the loudest ever. We’ve had almost 5 inches of rain and Pauls Valley (town just 5 miles north) had 3’ of water at midnight. We have to watch for tornados all day tomorrow also. I can’t wait for a high tunnel. I pray you all stay safe. I’m waiting for some light to check the property. God bless you all. 🙏❤️

You guys are awesome! I don't see how you find so much time to do videos. We got our two garden plots planted. We also made a 3rd garden plot. We border ours all the way around with comfrey, which makes a perfect divider between the grass the the veggies. Somewhere I read that organic fruit growers put comfrey around the trunks of their fruit trees so it makes its own mulch in the winter. In the two older plots, we use cages made out of the 6" square concrete wire. In the new 3rd plot, we're going to use the fabric and pins you recommended. I also ordered a seed planting tray and the drain tray which goes under it from Hoss Tools. That way we can plant some things (like strawberries) which need to be closer together and hard to weed. God bless you guys for all the helpful information you give your followers!

I love going through my garden and seeing what is ripe and ready to have for that day's meals. Having a big variety means you are more likely to have plenty of good healthy food. My first strawberries are ripening. I can't wait for my blueberries and mulberrries. I enjoyed your garden tour. It reminded me of what we have in store for us.
My plan has been to have fresh fruit year round. We pretty much do, since we have Meyer Lemons, but I wanted more variety.

Also there are other brands of regular canning lids that have now become available that work great too. Usually they are sold in tubes not little boxes and u’d have order them. But if u can do fresh then ofcourse thats better, same with freezing. U guys are awesome! Its so fun watching you all because I garden in MN. Our season goes from May through September. Sometimes the first week in sept only and sometimes through the second week in October if we are really lucky. I’d want to garden year round if I could

I love gardening for year around food. I also like sun dehydrated surplus, as dehydrating is easier than canning and requires little storage space. I put lots of dehydrated veggies in my pot of beans. I serve this on top of steamed greens or green beans and garnish it with microgreens. But...we've moved to a new place with a new climate. Gooood morning from Orlando (ish) I cannot wait for beans, my soil spots are finally lush, so ready. Great videos. I wish every grower great abundance and good health (plus helpful weather❤).

Thank you for your gardening segments!!! I know we are both heaven bound. I know you are concerned about the future. We may disagree about politics but we do agree about gardening & God.

O Boy! I sure do remember hunting water moccasins when I was a boy. We used bow and arrow because the guns were too easy. We tried pinning them to the ground with the arrows. That was harder because they were moving. I never told my mama until I was older because she certainly would have had a fit. lol, memories of a young boy in the south.

Raspberries love "acidic" soil. Water with 1 tbsp white vinegar to 1 quart water then watch leaves.........also peat moss, small tree bark, or pine shavings will help.

I really love your greenhouses. I was hoping to have a smaller version before I retire but it’s not going to happen. I will just have to watch you guys with yours. I love them.

Get you some feral cats, Snake problem solved. I live about 45 minutes NE from you and had problems with Copperheads and Moccasins around my pond...UNTIL I got the cats. I consider them "Contract Labor".

Wanda a couple years ago I planted my first Cherokee purple tomato it was amazing. Last year I grew a a Cherokee hybrid. It was crossed with a tomato called carbon very robust and prolific tomato. And I have to say the flavor was almost better than the Cherokee purple.
