========= Firestorm LYRICS =========
But a kingdom that has once been destroyed can never come back into being nor can the dead ever be brought back to life
Warnings of an airstrike
The sirens scream out loud
Warning on the radio
Of what’s coming
Appearing on the radar
A threat from overseas
Planes on the horizon
Cast shadows on the ground
Bringers of destruction
Are ravaging the land
Fury of the bombers
A force to reckon with
Sets the world on fire
Then turns to strike again
Flames are burning higher
The bombs keep falling
AA guns are blazing
As the sky is turning red
better run for cover
You’ll be quick or be dead
Burn Burn
Rage of the heavens
Burn Burn
Death from above
Die Die
Merciless killing
Burn Burn
Death from above
Carpet bombing cities
And grinding them to dust
Able men and women
Will all be victims
Everyone will suffer
In the wake of their attack
Bombers show no mercy
A land in ruin
Homes are turned to rubble
When the airstrike has been approved
Facing their destruction
Fear the black wings of death
Burn Burn
Rage of the heavens
Burn Burn
Death from above
Die Die
Merciless killing
Burn Burn
Nothing remains
Cities ruined, turned to dust
All has been lost
Rise from the ashes and strike
AA guns are blazing
As the sky is turning red
Bend under a cover
You be quick or be dead
Burn Burn
Rage of the heavens
Burn Burn
Death from above
Die Die
Merciless killing
Burn Burn
Death from above

The opening statement by Sun Tzu has one exception: Poland. Poland has been destroyed no fewer than three times and come back exactly the same each and every time.
If you look through history, you'll find a fair few examples where that isn't true. But for the most part, if you country falls, you're civilization will too.
State and county can fall. If the people hold onto the land and cannot be swept away they will rebuild.

"But a kingdom that has once been destroyed can never come again into being, nor can the dead ever be brought back to life"
Meanwhile Poland poping in and out of exsitence in the background: 🙃
My nan lived in London as a small girl during WWII. She told me about how her street got bombed, and that she could hear the bombs exploding, one by one, getting closer and closer to her house until a bomb crashed through her roof, and landed in a large barrel of water in the basement. Her neighbourhood was destroyed, but thankfully the bomb that hit her house was a dud. She then had to live in a shelter, and her room had an AA gun on the roof above it, going off at all hours. She was always a bit jittery and that explains it I think.
She also told me about hearing the V-1 missiles which she referred to as the "doodlebugs". She mentioned how no one worried too much until you heard the engine cut out because that was when it was about to hit something.
My grandfather was also a young lad in England in that time, and apparently they once had a German bomber crash land in a field near their house, which he and his twin brother went into and explored while the thing was still burning lol.
My grandfather grew up to join the British Army with his twin brother. He was initially in explosive ordnance disposal, then moved to the paras. And his twin brother was a tanker.
This song just gives me the chills every time! All I can think about is the moments of terror the poor dresden people were going through between the air raid sirens, fires blazing, the sounds of AA and Flak fire, I am glad anyone even survived this because from the way it sounds like in the song, nobody lived. In reality they killed over 40k civillians in the bomb runs. Which equates to just a little under 3% of dresden at the time. Honestly even with all the stuff germany was doing at the time, the Civillians didnt desserve to burn.
Great song tho 10/10.

In the battle for Vukovar 1000 -1800 Croatian people with barely any weapon defended the town for 3 months from 30 000 people from serbian army JNA, which was by the time of speaking 2nd strongest army in the Europe.
Imagine, town was defended for 3 months!
And that isn't craziest part of the story...
Unfortunately, serbs, after they actually conquered the town, they took people from Vukovar's hospital, and brutally killed them and throwed them in big pit...
Please make song about it it's so heroic...
Something I like about this song is that it captures how _personal_ Dresden was for the English bomber crews. While the song at large can apply to the entire campaign, Dresden stands out as it was basically revenge for Coventry, a city high command had to sacrifice in order to maintain the Intel advantage of having cracked enigma.
It was also because the Soviets requested it. Dresden was Germany’s next line of defense and was meant to stall for time against the Soviets. So the Soviets asked their western allies to delete it. Ironic because the Germans truly believed the British wouldn’t bomb it.
The Coventry sacrificed for enigma story is a total myth.
