- If you were an artist that had a chance to watch Picasso paint... would you take it? Well I am not an artist or Picasso.
But...
This video will literally save you hundreds of hours in the long run by understanding even just a few of the habits I explain here.
I have almost never seen anyone actually post their practice online. And even fewer still, who actually explain it.
This of this not just as an entertaining video to watch, but as a free piano lesson that you would give your full attention to if you were in the room.
That is exactly how it was made.

BTW, the captions may have some mistakes. They are auto and I didn't have time to look through them all.
I love the raw authenticity of this video. This is what You tube was meant to be for.
And that is precisely why I posted it here. The only platform where this is possible. :)
Great video Aaron. Honestly, I had to skip after I followed the first 20 minutes... I'm definitely not a classical pianist, but what I saw was enough for me to get to the following takeaway: practicing slowly and focusing on the fingering of small sections at the time of the music sheet, until you get the right confidence and muscle memory you're looking for. Then put all together with no rush. In general, if you think about it, this is also applicable in everyday life... when you're facing a mountain to climb, you don't want to run all the way up at full speed. Take one step at the time and enjoy the journey... look around, take a breath, appreciate the little things... You'll find out yourself at the top of the mountain without even realizing it! Thanks Aaron, great educational content right here. Keep it up! :) AL
I appreciate all you share here Al. And I am glad you had that take away. it's an important one for sure. Great analogy as well! And even though you didn't see the whole thing, you may enjoy the last few mins from 42:40 where I play the piece live. It can show you the power of much much change you can make in a very short time.
I'm self taught for my entire life and play a lot of varied pieces. This was actually quite valuable to watch on how others practice. I've developed a fairly similar type of practicing.
Most important thing you said is "I don't wanna get good a the beginning" which is quite amusing. I've always hated taking it "from the top" haha. I've always phrased it into sections which I just mark as A > Z and just start at a section.
Usually right hand, left hand, playthrough, figure out technique for parts that feel weird etc.
Love this video btw. Great stuff mate.
Thanks for the watch! So glad to hear. And yes starting from the beginning all the time is a very novice mistake that even some professionals make!

Finally watched this.. Great stuff! Nothing too specific, maybe working backwards, but I applied this to Debussy today and definitely felt a bit more efficient than usual 😊
Nice! Yes it's a little of everything. Glad you enjoyed.
