Just finished it after watching some every night for a week. This and the guide you created are both excellent. I haven't really seen any other people do goofy gameplay with narrative storytelling like this, and I'm surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did, kind of an unsubtle comic relief thing. I read through quite a few of the comments you left on here, as well on a few of the past videos just for specific sections I really liked, and I think it's a good sign for us viewers that you enjoy making videos and such, even having the motivation to do so with a full time job (I know that sucked all the motivation out of me to do anything when I had a 9-5). I'd enjoy you out into other games you enjoy as well in this style, I'd definitely watch even if the storytelling potential isn't as great in some other games. I think the care you put into this really showed, you must have some desire for storytelling if you put that much effort into this, and I think more of this with stories planned out from the start would be amazing. It was evident you put more polish on the storytelling as it went on, and you have the humor, so I'd bet you're going to get a bigger audience soon if that's your goal. Good luck with the next project you have planned, I'll be looking forward to it, and by the comments here, it seems many others will as well.
Thanks for taking time to write to me a comments like this, these are diesel on the fire of creation for myself and also the channel and are impactful on a nuclear scale. I do consider it to be a strange, strange hybrid of video styles to merge together, a narration/story along side actual gameplay but it turned out to be a lot of fun on my part for sure figuring on how to slot things together cohesively was very different to what I have ever made before, adding stronger story elements later on is definitely a product of getting an insane amount of views and wanting to add the most effort I could for the video, and I'm glad it turned out to be well received in the end and adds great encouragement to continue on as well of course.
@@quillclock While I really like AA's earlier stuff, his videos fell on the more philosophical side of things. It didn't have a crafted narrative that existed outside of the gameplay like this besides what was going on in the main character's head which was usually an extension of his own thoughts. I've usually seen these types of stories in Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress videos, but those stories take a lot more from what the game gives them than making the game fit the story. Not that that's a bad thing by any means, but it is what makes this video unique in my opinion, and it's why I like it so much.
A fitting ending I would say. Kenshi is so amazing. No ingame story at all aside from lore and a few in world goals, and yet every playthrough is it's own story that beats 9 out of 10 fully scripted games. What started as a simple challenge run evolved into something entirely different, every playthough of Kenshi I have is like this it seems. The open endedness is unmatched by any other game I've played aside from maybe Minecraft. Certainly the most open ended RPG of recent years. It takes the best parts from other RPG's and let's you craft your own story. You really are just a person in the world, trying to survive and carve out your own legend.
That shit was so incredibly sad. Never have I seen such a youtube production from such an underrated youtuber. It makes me sad that nothing in the game compares to this masterful storytelling.
I imagine Lean Beane was a legendary trickster thief even before the playthrough started which is how he got sentenced to being delimbed and dropped in the desert, then through raw John Wick tier willpower crawled on his useless stumps long enough to literally steal some trash can limbs
I have always considered the “murder everyone” playthrough to be the worst and least interesting way to play Kenshi. It’s the most common way I see the game played on the internet often for nothing more than gags. It’s always felt like refusing to engage with the game. But you have managed to make it engaging, the story you told is genuinely really good and made this the first time I’ve seen this playthrough done well.
I am utterly enamored by the exquisite craftsmanship of this masterpiece, and I extend my heartfelt commendations to you, dear sir, for your remarkable creation. You, undoubtedly, stand as a luminary amongst luminaries, having conceived a narrative of such captivating immersiveness dear brotherman♥.
It's kind of my favorite series on UA-cam in my 10 years on this app this actually surpassed most of my childhood series on UA-cam I was so sad when it end Really thank you for all Keep going my man love you from France
THIS WAS IMMACULATE! I hope the creator of Kenshi has seen this. So crazy going into this I was not expecting anything special but I was so pleasantly surprised. Kenshi is one the most unique games ever, and now someone gave us their own unique take on common trope. this is better than all of the rehashed garbage that is shoved down our throats every year. I hope we have more people like Martyr Dumb out there willing to put their effort into wonderful projects like this.
i have 700 hours in this god forsaken game and have always dreamed of making a longplay like this; thanks for the time you put into this! you're a natural storyteller and the video flows very well!
I never though i would be brought to tears by a kenshi video. This is by far the most beautifully tragic experience I've been witness to in a good long while From start to finish, it was magnificent. Good on you man. This has given me even more of a reason to buckle down and keep writing the story of my party in kenshi
I'm commenting for traction this is by far the best kenshi video on the entire internet, in fact probably one of the best videos on this website. You are highly underrated and deserve more subscribers. My favorite part of this was watching you gain confidence as you moved along further with the series. Seriously, congratulations on the labor you put into this. I'm sharing this with all my friends. Good luck and godspeed.
I wish I had the ability to truly put the enjoyment and emotions I got out of this video/movie into a understandable and well written comment, however what I can say is that the whole 4 hours and 39 minutes were pure joy and excitement from start to finish plus I got to watch it for FREE?!?
This story is the best peice of Kenshi media I've watched in a long time. The Story, characters, dialogue and set pieces remind me of why I love Kenshi so much. Thank you for creating this story and I hope you know you've made something to be proud of here. I'll defienlty will be watching more of your content even if it isn't Kenshi.
I remember when the series first came out. I couldn't wait until the next video came out. It gave me a sense of joy to see it all release one episode at a time, and when it went from a typical playthrough with some silly commentary to a full narrative featuring two protagonists with light commentary, I was on the edge of my seat. And like the very first time I watched this series to the end, I cried at the end. This was a masterpiece, and it will stay in my heart as one.
Greatest piece of Kenshi media I have ever seen, and probably will see lol! Probably should have taken this in bites but I couldn't stop from binging It all in one sitting. Honestly sad to see that I have made it to the end To go from the Silly Goobers Guide to This Epic is kinda wild looking back lol
Clicked on this video fully expecting another run of the mill kenshi challenege video, and at about the two hour mark i realized that this was something much more special. I loved this. The way the plot of the video gradually switched from mostly silly goob hours to mostly self respecting narrative as you found the direction you wanted the series to go in was a treat, as much of an arc as the one the folk in the story go through. The characters were interesting, especially with the side plots like with Brick and the Inquisitor, really enjoyed watching it all unfold. Also the extra effort you went through to make all the cinematics in-game just elevates the whole thing. you have a knack for storytelling and a fucking funny sense of humour to boot. I'll be lurking in the shadows waiting to see what you do next.
That ending was so wild! You're narrative work is amazing. I hope you do more narratives in Kenshi, it's my favorite type of thing to watch and about 4 people have done it. This was the most creative though by far.
Very unique to see a traditional run evolve into a narrative one. Its like watching someone hit their stride and grow real time. I feel like the ending might have been more poignant for leane to have won the duel and realize the true cost of killing only after the fact. Perhaps in an ironic twist, espher is the one remembered because leane writes about him to remember him. Alternatively, Espher should have answered his final question with “dreams”. Wrapping back to his confusion regarding esphers nightmares. Its a dual sided answer that means both his dream of being the strongest is the only thing left after he’s gone and more literally that its an eternal slumber.
I will say for story reasons, Espher only wins his duel because his final opponent lets him, either because his most useful tool had really grown on him, or perhaps he felt he had already made his place in history regardless of the outcome. Ill also say In with game fighting capability, Lean beane was soooo mean it was not even funny he was truly a monster, the low armor and ultra high dexterity he would almost always swing twice if not three times consecutively in fights, with Espher there to tank blows they where an amazing team.
You simply redefined the way i play Kenshi, mainstream videos on youtube just don’t hit the same but, you’re content is a refresher and gave me a sense of the amount of entertainment you can get from a youtube video 10/10
so a random kenshi video shows up in my recommended, and sure i've got four and a half hours to waste why not? I did not expect to end up watching a genuinely fantastic narrative develop in some challenge run. I did not expect genuinely good storytelling, I definitely didn't expect genuinely good cinematics and camerawork in fukin kenshi of all things. I'm not big on movies these days, but all I can really think to describe this as is a Damn Good Movie. A passion project, absolutely insane, shockingly well made, and deeply gripping. Thank you for making this, it was bloody brilliant.
This is one of those pieces of fiction where you wish you could get amnesia to forget about just so you could experience it for the first time again. Man this was good.
The editing in this video is amazing, narration, story, explanations, audio, music choice are all top notch (although some things were a little loud). I will probably watch this video multiple times. I definitely missed some things. Incredible video, so glad I found it.
10/10 Easily one of the best videos I've seen in a long time. The way you can mix you just messing around playing the game juxtaposed with the more serious narrative parts works surprisingly well. I would say you found one hell of a format. Keep up the good work; I'm dying to see more.
I started watching after seeing your silly goober guide and I thought you were really funny, so I decided to see what else you've posted for kenshi, lo and behold a 4.5 hr long video of banger Kenshi content, is just the thing I need. I came for the funny commentary and stayed for the riveting narrative, I'm about halfway through now and wow you can see the style almost totally shift from the beginning. very well done I'm a big fan
dude this is by far one of the most interesting Kenshi videos ive ever watched and im only about halfway through, as a new Kenshi player I feel like ive easily learned alot from this video. I don usually like to watch shit this long but its nice to put on when I have down time. Great vid dawg
This was absolutely beautiful, this is definitely the best Kenshi series ever made on both difficulty and story telling. You have a lot of talent man, thank you for making this.
I started watching this cause I recently started playing Kenshi, I did not expect this to turn into a full blown movie. Compelling story telling, when Espher joined that scene alone was great, had me locked in.
i watched this for the third time now after watching "Kenshi: Episode Espher" ,and the end with the studio ghibli soundtrack and everything gets me everytime man, you've truely created somethinh awesome here.
Doing my yearly Kenshi dive again and figured I'd check in on this whole "impossible challenge" thing. Yep, too hard for me but cool seeing it done and awesome seeing veterans still finding fun in the game my dude!
It was inevetable, but yet it shocked me. i never expected this level of artistry but what i saw was priceless. In history you are immortal until everyone is gone. I will never look at a kenshi video the same, not after seeing this brilliant masterpiece of a story that came out of left field. You sir have changed my life forever with this one lean beane.
Didn't know your content before this, but i'm absolutetly surprised, i loved every moment, and the legacy or LeanBean and Spher will be remembered. Well done.
my god, finding this video two days after getting back into kenshi after two years...the stars truly aligned. thank you so much for this cinematic masterpiece. felt incredibly empty after i finished watching it, a feeling i hadn't had almost since i finished rdr2 years ago. you're going places man. desperately looking forward to your next projects.
holy shit. this just fell in front of me and i was caught. enraptured for four fuckin hours. starting from the usual war-crime sim silliness to handling heavy themes with nuance. like christ you did not have to go this hard, but i'm thrilled you did. also the lisa music was a perfect fit all in all thank you :)
There is so much story in this video. Amazing work man. There are so many details to mention. It is best not to speak but enjoy the story. Its also the first video of yours I come across. Good work! I will just say that the theme, aesthetics, story telling, character building all combine to make this a wonderful story.
Watched this over 3 days, the most amazing peice of youtube content by far. Cannot beleive you did this all and truly I was gripped tocthe bitter sweet end, congrats on this my friend you sould truly be proud, i hope to see more content like this soon!
I did not expect to cry at the end. I didn't know what i was getting into. This was a beautiful expirience, full of emotions and i truly felt for the characters at the end. You have a talent at storytelling, i'll tell you that.
This is everything I look for in a UA-cam/Kenshi video. From the humor, to the quality, to the editing. You are a master. As much as I love and feel spoiled by the 4:39:14 length of your masterpiece, you deserve to earn more money from your efforts. I’m no UA-cam expert, but would you not raise your profit margins by making a series of videos instead of a single, longer video? You may already know this and UA-cam in general more than I ever will; I just want to see that you make a profit from all the work and love that you invest. Thank you again! Edit: I spoke a little prematurely-this is a series! Thank you for all your hard work!
I didn't realize how good a long form version of the series would be until you dropped this onto our plates. A great way to re-watch the series. I've been watching this while playing a new run trying to build a base in the swamps. Have had several mishaps with blood spiders due to being distracted lol.
Honestly was amazing, it was interesting to see the slow shift from comedy gold to a heart felt story. I mean you even explained random occurrences like a holy nation paladin with a girl walking past Espher. It shows you have lots of creativity and I humbly say you deserve a subscribe and many more. I would definitely love to see how you spin out other open-world games like Bannerlord, Skyrim, and hell even more Kenshi. Keep it up! Thank you for the awesome video.
I would say that perhaps having more commentary and funny dialogue could give the audience a break from the dark tone of the story and heavy-lore and make them want to watch more. At least that's something I would enjoy. Either way I loved it.
Man, the quality of your videos are easily 100k sub. This series and your beginners guide is top notch comedy and quality , i hope you contiue making more content in the future !
I feel like this playthrough was more than just that. One that turned into one with a focus on RP. It almost feels like with this video series you went and explored not only the game and your capabilities but your very being and character and that is why I think this piece of art will remain as an example for future pieces of content and creators to come.
One of the best pieces of in game storytelling I've ever had the pleasure of watching. I usually put on long form content to fall asleep to, but ive just spent my day off work watching this because of how wonderfully crafted the narrative is, dotted with some excellent memes. Thank you for creating this and then deciding to share it with us, truly. I can only imagine how much time and effort this took to make.
Damn fine work. Really neat way to mold a let's play and your own narrated gameplay into a really entertaining story that's great to watch whether episodic or in the four hour version. I won't ask for more though. Every bit of this drips with care and love from its creator, and if you were struggling to keep pushing out content to constantly entertain all of us we wouldn't get great passion projects like this. But with that said, thanks for this though. Thanks a lot. And thanks even more for all the effort you didn't need to put in but chose to anyways. I guarantee you we all appreciate it. I'll probably be rewatching this with friends a number of times over the years.
This wasn't what I expected when the algo recommended it. There have been several genuinely entertaining "rock bottom" style playthroughs I've seen. This was something quite special.
Okay this was simply excellent. I loved the characters, especially in the latter half. Without a doubt one of the best Kenshi videos I've watched. I feel like more words are deserved but I'm also not great with picking them so rather than ramble I'll leave it there.
This. This is true content. Edge of your seat action, redemption and heartbreak, horror and tribulations. This was a true masterpiece and well worth the almost 5 hours. I salute you and your hard work.
This is the absolute best thing i have ever seen on UA-cam. I paid full attention to the whole video and was engrossed in every second of it. All i would recommend is for someone to look over your videos for both typos and script review, as some of your narration felt a bit clunky. But even with those flaws this is still fantastic. you did a wonderful job and I hope to see more of this in the future.
the way it evolved from a simple goofy string bean challenge run to an incredibly competent narrative by the end, marvelous. honestly a rather emotional tale I must say, the ending, the dreams of red especially towards the end, a good way of framing the third extinction playthrough. hats off.
I am completely awestruck and inspired by this. By far the coolest thing I’ve ever seen anyone do with Kenshi, maybe any video game ever. I was legitimately fucking sad when it ended, you told such a fantastic story. Can’t wait to see what else you have in store!
You made me install kenshi again, thank you, i will also have a lot of entertainment for the following days it takes me to finish this video. I don't know how much it takes you to make these videos but i hope you keep it up, this is gold.
Just finished it after watching some every night for a week. This and the guide you created are both excellent.
I came for the funny commentary and stayed for the riveting narrative, I'm about halfway through now and wow you can see the style almost totally shift from the beginning. very well done I'm a big fan
thanks king.
This is the greatest video i have ever seen, the story is so deep and is definetly worthy of an oscar. It deserves far more than 3 thousand views
i can't believe i bingewatched a 4 and a half movie in a night
dude this is by far one of the most interesting Kenshi videos ive ever watched and im only about halfway through, as a new Kenshi player I feel like ive easily learned alot from this video. I don usually like to watch shit this long but its nice to put on when I have down time. Great vid dawg
Nothing relaxes me after four straight hours of Kenshi than more than a four straight hours video of Kenshi
This was absolutely beautiful, this is definitely the best Kenshi series ever made on both difficulty and story telling. You have a lot of talent man, thank you for making this.
I'm loving this. Also loving the music you've picked, like one of the State of Decay themes
Thanks homie SOD is such a slept on game.
I started watching this cause I recently started playing Kenshi, I did not expect this to turn into a full blown movie. Compelling story telling, when Espher joined that scene alone was great, had me locked in.
Best kenshi video ever made. HANDS DOWN. DO MORE
that movie-cutscene part was the best content in kenshi . Thank you for the content
i watched this for the third time now after watching "Kenshi: Episode Espher" ,and the end with the studio ghibli soundtrack and everything gets me everytime man, you've truely created somethinh awesome here.
Its a story fit for kenshi
I'm only half way through the video and I'm loving it so far. Really wholesome content 👍
Love the style of video. Memes were implemented perfectly.
Doing my yearly Kenshi dive again and figured I'd check in on this whole "impossible challenge" thing. Yep, too hard for me but cool seeing it done and awesome seeing veterans still finding fun in the game my dude!
I've recently discovered Kenshi and with my recent interaction with this community you honestly have made the most enjoyable video
This is a super good story you've made here, almost like a movie. Actually.. with the length I guess it IS a movie.
Thank you for the great movie. I remember watching the first episode, seeing it evolve into a great story was awesome. 10/10 will recommend to others.
It helps a ton thanks for watching.
Thanks for this man this will be one of those videos i put on before bed and rewatch when im feeling down.
holy shit. this just fell in front of me and i was caught. enraptured for four fuckin hours. starting from the usual war-crime sim silliness to handling heavy themes with nuance. like christ you did not have to go this hard, but i'm thrilled you did. also the lisa music was a perfect fit all in all thank you :)
Just finally finished! The best Kenshi video I have seen! So well done! Everyone that played a part in this should be very proud! Amazing job!!
This was a fully solo production so I must take full credit, but it still would not be possible without such wonderful viewers of course.
The perfect kenshi content fr simply amazing
what an amazing character driven story. I love how you weaved the story into the actual campaign and not just made a machinima out of it.
What an incredible series my guy. I am completely in awe at how amazing the storytelling was
Even after a year seeing this the first time I keep coming back. God this video is peak.
Thanks chief you can count on it.
Thank you for taking an interest in any sense thanks homie.
@@MartyrDumbAlso, I love the story bits spliced into the standard gameplay.
I didn't realize how good a long form version of the series would be until you dropped this onto our plates. A great way to re-watch the series. I've been watching this while playing a new run trying to build a base in the swamps. Have had several mishaps with blood spiders due to being distracted lol.
They all talk about the drugs and fish, but never about the blood spiders.
i just got to the espher arc, this is incredible work youve put into these
this is absolutely inspiring. i am enthralled and humoured and touched by this tender tale. Thankyou very much :) Awesomely told....
I think this might be the greatest Kenshi video I’ve ever seen
Either way I loved it.
this is the most beautiful family movie on youtube and you deserve an oscar.
Thanks homie
What an incredible story and movie you made! Amazing production values, and so funny! 😁
One of my favorite labors of love, Im honored you used your time off to watch it, thanks king.
Maybe more will be made in the future thank you for taking to the time to leave such a nice a comment.
I feel like more words are deserved but I'm also not great with picking them so rather than ramble I'll leave it there.
how the fuck did you make a 4 hour video good enough to watch?????? this is the best kenshi video i’ve ever seen
Extremely well made, inspired me to become a methodical killer in Kenshi!
Thanks a ton your a real one homie.
@@MartyrDumb Do you have plans for more content like this?
Good memes bro. As an utter beginner that was hilarious to watch.
the way it evolved from a simple goofy string bean challenge run to an incredibly competent narrative by the end, marvelous. honestly a rather emotional tale I must say, the ending, the dreams of red especially towards the end, a good way of framing the third extinction playthrough. hats off.
This is some of the best Kenshi content I’ve seen since Torsolo.
I am completely awestruck and inspired by this. By far the coolest thing I’ve ever seen anyone do with Kenshi, maybe any video game ever. I was legitimately fucking sad when it ended, you told such a fantastic story. Can’t wait to see what else you have in store!
dude, 4 and a half hours of entertaining gameplay, nice editing & music and great narration! thank you!
got my sub
You made me install kenshi again, thank you, i will also have a lot of entertainment for the following days it takes me to finish this video.
I don't know how much it takes you to make these videos but i hope you keep it up, this is gold.
