I wish I had a Classic 500 or 350 ! Old school cool. I have always told new riders if you can't carry anything on your bike, you will never ride it. Thanks for the great videos. 👍
I bought a set of pannier frames from India and they were rubbish and needed that much modification (bending and additional adapter plates) I decided to make my own out of 316L Stainless steel and have tie wrapped the Lomo large dry bags to it. 4500 miles and all is good. The time it takes and the cost of materials and Argon gas to make your own far exceeds these from Hitchcocks. Get them while you can I;d say.
Just completed a 2410 mile trip from Colorado Springs to Oshkosh WI on the Classic Signals Edition. I couldn't find the genuine Royal Enfield Pannier frames in stock anywhere so I fitted a cheaper pair and they performed flawlessly. Having said that, I will buy the genuine article when back in stock.
Congratulations Stu. Being part Scottish I do not part with my money easily but, based on your recommendations I just ordered the worlds greatest pannier frames for my Classic 350 from Hitchcoks. I told the misses it’s for using the 350 to go for groceries. She approved. Now to review the luggage options.
Bloody hell : good job I watched this again I had forgotten to tick, press, touch or smash the like thing. I can only say that I must have been overcome by these being the best pannier frames I have seen available since 1970.
Hi, For you and your subscribers benefit, Hitchcock just received the new English made racks (p/n 93215) for the Classic 350 Reborn and Bullet; no need for adapter kit, perfect fit and finish.
I fitted the Hitchcocks pannier frames to my Signals 350 reborn classic a few days ago, I used a telescopic magnet to hold and relocated the awkward top suspension nut very easily for the bolt to engage the nut, sourcing the olive canvas panniers has proved impossible, As you mentioned Hitchcocks are developing some panniers that will be available in a few months they said. One of the rear stay brackets had a nut on that wasn’t welded flush, Hitchcocks sent a replacement the very next day, great service.
Hopefully someone will make metal ammo-box style panniers to fit this type of rack. They would look good on any Bullet or Classic and would look fantastic on the Signals variant.
I have a hunter 350 and I purchased similar pannier frames and bags and this video helped with my install even though its a different bike so thanks for the video!!
Sorry, watched video and got nothing, just left a comment. But I did enjoy watching you work and I felt like your manager drinking coffee. Did good! I will keep you another week. 😂
Thanks for your reviews Stuart, I’m a fairly recent subscriber and find your content interesting. I must say that the quality of your camera equipment is excellent and really makes a difference.
These frames do look the business - I like that they still look purposeful without the pannier bag in place, unlike those random hoop affairs offered with aftermarket panniers for the more ‘regular’ motorcycle. I can imagine heading off to IKEA with a few ratchet straps with these. Although, I would persevere with some diy bracketry to get the frames upright, if this is possible.
Agreed with the Pannier Rack excellence as I bought a set three years ago for the 500 Classic that you seduced me into buying(and have never regretted) apart from the time I followed you down that track at the beginning of your video, 'The Road of Stones' and bust two spokes!
Stu I concur, these are the best side rails because the support (foot) at the bottom does not protrude too far unlike others which have a much larger foot. I have tried side rails without the foot and soft luggage just sags. I haven't tried yet but I think these might also fit the Meteor 🤔, with a slight modification😮
Another outstanding video Stuart! Thank you so much for all the effort you put into each and every production. You never fail to get me laughing and, most importantly, you are my go-to source for info. on all Royal Enfield products and accessories, etc. It is through you that I was turned on to Hitchcocks, and I've dressed my 2021 Continental GT to the hilt with all of their bits and bobs as a result. Anyway, now I'm thinking of picking up a Classic 350, and I've been doing my homework on luggage options for the machine. Again, you've come to the rescue, and I have enjoyed your video detailing the mounting of this most excellent pannier rail system. Thanks to you mentioning the discontinuing of both the mounting rails and the bags, I'm now preparing to order a set of the rails from Hitchcocks, and I'm pressing them for more info. on the bags that they are designing. So.... thanks so much, once again, for keeping me well informed. I really appreciate it! One thing I have to ask.... I noticed (via your excellent close-ups) that the frame on your 350 seems to have some staining just under the seat. this comes across as a lite grey spotting, etc. I'm just wondering if you fell victim to something I noticed on my GT. I cannot go anywhere near my frame with any kind of denatured alcohol for the purpose of cleaning in preparation of putting a sticker on, or something to that effect. In MHO, the paintwork on my frame is not one of the GTs high points. Please forgive me if you've already addressed this kind of issue in one of your videos. In my experience with buying new bikes, I've always asked the dealer not to wash my bike B4 I take delivery. I'm picky about this because of the chemicals the dealers use, and the spots they leave behind when they do not dry the bikes properly. Maybe this is something you can help us out with in a future production, because folks may not take this into account. Anyway, thanks once again for all that you do. I look forward to each and every video that you release! Cheers my friend!
great video and i agree completely with everything said. i originally bought a set of pannier frames and bags from india but they proved to be complete rubbish with nothing fitting and everything being such low quality that it all ended up in the bin! I subsequently bought a set of frames from hitchcocks and a pair of bags from an RE dealer here in Italy. The frames and bags fitted without any issues and are totally robust. My classic 350 is my only mode of transport so it has to be capable of carrying anything and the frames have proven to be ideal. One thing i would say about the bags is that the colour fades if they are left in strong sunlight… i bought the dark grey bags but after a few months they faded to a mid brown colour, i actually don’t mind and they still look good but its something you might like to consider and be prepared for… of course i live in Italy and my bike is parked outside all year round so i accept that this could be unique to me. i’m hoping that hitchcocks will come up with a rear rack kit to suit a single seat configuration, again i bought one from india and that too ended up in the cupboard of shame along with the pannier frames and bags.
ghee im early. Ive got myself a Classic 350 reborn in chrome too, so useful video. Might get myself a pair of these, but I'm also looking at peather panier bags that can be linked and placed underneath the pillion :)
Good morning uncle Stu'. Ever since I was a teenager with my NSU Quickly, I have alway found saggy, wrinkly old bags to be rather unattractive. A friend of mine recently sold his RE Meteor 350 but, the buyer did not want the RE panniers, so, he kindly offered them to me for my Classic reborn. At first I was a little hesitant so I stuffed them under the bed for a couple of weeks while I had a think about it. Being a bit frugal (tight), I didn't want to splash out on a set of pannier rails and considered trying to make my own. It was while offering up various off cuts of Dexion, I realised there were plenty of anchorage points already fitted to the bike so, I put them on using nothing more than the straps attached to the bags and, surprisingly, they proved to be very secure but, they were wrinkly and sagged. Then I had a brainwave. In my shed stood a long since discarded vegetable rack, the baskets of which were an almost perfect fit with which to line the interiors of the bags. Lopping off 2cm from the hight and snipping out one end to allow access from above, I slid them in and, hay presto, no wrinkles and added rigidity. They look great, sit closer to the frame and survived my road test (down a rather bumpy lane) with three one and a half litre bottles filled to the brim in each bag. I couldn't be happier with the result and saved a few quid into the bargain.
I got my racks and bags. Genuine. From raju lax in India. Perfect fit and made for the bike. 👍Many are copies and frames Don.t fit properly. Classic 350
Looks good. Hate double d ring bags, they're a pain. Look forward to Fridays video. Went with the plastic ammo can looking panniers. Only right side made at that time, modified one mount to fit left side. Cut and rewelded the mount points. They work but hope I don't drop the bike.....plastic won't survive.
Ayyyyyy-Up Stuart, these carriers look like they should be the industry standard, I think with a little ingenuity you could carry half the contents of your shed, in India they probably do. When you think of all the faffing about over the years with the feeble and over complicated European stuff that only fit one type of luggage, these and classic 350 are breath of fresh air. Good work Stuart.
Stuart you're a wizard 🪄, I feel like I could get my spanners out and have a go...I've got the hunter...so I'd expect a similar amount of effort to a a pannier kit...❤ Take care out there 💞
I have been looking into these frames and panniers and can see that they can be bought from India fairly cheeply. However locking through reviews these aftermarket frames appear to be poorly constructed with minimum welds and frame stays that have to be bent to fit the bike. Hitchcocks frames look quite expensive in comparison but in reality they will be much better all round and last alot longer. Thank you for another very interesting and informative video, i look forward to seeing next Friday's video on the topic of panniers and fitment. If it's any consolation I don't do much work outside on my vehicles these days either when it is raining. Been there done that and have the scars to prove it (and the aching joints).
Stuart, thanks for great videos on the panniers and pannier rack. Very helpfull. Based on these video i decided to go for these racks. As mentioned by you they are still out of stock at Hitchcocks. I decided that i will try to make my own bracket. Can you share the dimension of the washer (mounted with the shocks) and the dimension of the brackets?
Love your videos. I bought the RE Classic 350 in red a few months ago. It's the 5th RE I've bought. Currently, I have this new 350 and a 2008 Bullet. I love my 2008, but overall, it's finicky. Doesn't always want to start. This new 350 is wonderful. It feels closer to size as the 08 RE, but the reliability is there. The 2018 500s I had felt substantially larger to me, so I'm way more comfortable on the 350. It's a fantastic and beautiful bike.
Morning Stuart ,great set of rails that actually support the bags instead of the usual saggy set up with throw over bags, I'm awaiting delivery of a sump guard at the moment, then these will be my next accessory , thanks for another great practical video, cheers 🍻
I really like the Royal Enfield racks, but not having them available I installed standard pannier frames, without the foot, on my 2007 Honda Shadow. I then used a couple of Rok Straps to strap my tent to one side and my ultralight camp chair to the other side. Not elegant, but very cost effective, and adaptable. Over 16,000 kilometers later no problems. Warning… unlike Stuart I’m very much a dirtbag, so take my advice with caution.
Thanks for the video! I fitted it on my Classic 350 as well, I noticed that the rack on the exhaust side is really close to the frame, whereas on the other side, there is a bigger gap, is it the same on your bike? Cheers
I like the racks of the classic, but i dont like the RE original bags. sure they were cheap and look cool but my "waterproof" stormflaps were damaged and gone in the first few days. and i really dont like the D ring straps. i am now looking to adapt it to SW motech quick release without losing the possibility for non quick lock bags
Got the very same set up on my 350, the black faded to pale grey over last summer, still use them every day though, good for putting the shopping in etc. Why on earth has RE stopped making these though?
ciao, per installare il portaborse sul lato sinistro la vite è lunga abbastanza? perchè essendoci il sellino, la maniglia e anche il portaborsa mi era venuto il dubbio.
Great video, as always. Can I please give you a bit of advice. I was in the fastening business for nearly 30 years. On one of your fittings you placed the serrated washer under the socket cap screw, that type of washer is designed to go under the nut as it acts as a lock washer, the what you have done the nut may well come undone.
Yes ive explained this elsewhere first thing this morning. serrated washer damage paint work so I never place them against a painted surface. They are the reason god created locking nuts!
Morning Stu 👍. Another excellent "how to" and review. It might be worth checking if the star washer on the adaptor plate bolt should go behind the nut on the reverse side? I could be wrong in this instance, but usually any anti-loosening washer (spring, star etc) is usually fitted immediately behind the nut? Looking forward to Friday's installment very much 👍
@@stuartfillingham We use a lot of "bent beam" nuts at work. Looks like a normal nut but the final couple of threads are squashed. Where specified on drawings we treat them as single use like a nylock. But they're reusable for our home applications 😁
Hi, is the screw long enough to install the bag holder on the left side? because since there was a saddle, a handle and also a bag holder, I had doubts.
Will these frames work with Trip Machine Outlaw bags? Currently have bags connected to cargo rack that replaces the pillion but would like to use in conjunction with pillion. TM mounting straps are too wide for the two piece seat & pillion.
Looking at the Hitchcock site for these panniers under the 350 Classic section. the pannier blurb does not mention the extra fitting kit and I cannot see it listed seperately. Does the extra fitting kit come this pannier set?
Nice over view and im sure they are super . Its a lovely set of panniers and rails but way beyond my budget so I have to go for a cheaper set or not have any
@@stuartfillingham 97 quid will buy two frames with panniers so they are definitely not the cheapest and looking at the close ups the welding is just as poor as all the rest.
@@themechanic2036 yes I would quite like the answer to this one. Been running this channel for 6 years and have been approached by just about every luggage manufacturer out there to review their gear but, have never seen anything worth having at that price. Actually I will rephrase that, ive never seen anything at that price. would be interested to review it, if it exists!
Xin chào Stuart, I am Tommy from Vietnam. I am owning a classic 350 just like you. However, In my country this kind of side Pannier Rack is not accessible yet. Is it possible that I can ask you for a detail Spec of this so I can order a handmade one from our local shop?
I have a pair of racks I bought for my 500 bullet that I never used. They are different to the ones you have in the top and bottom mounts. So the kit won’t work for me.
Just bought myself a Classic, but while the military style pannier bags are available, the frames have been out of stock for weeks, with no indication as to when they'll be in. Poor planning by Hitchcocks, as many commenters on other vids are well hacked off. Looks like the Ebay lotto is the only choice.....wish me luck!
Hello Sir myself Paresh speaking from India. Sir I want to tell you that I also have the s ame model Halcyon Black Royal Enfield 350 Classic Ribbon Thank you so much for this video🙏
I'm not one to complain, but the anti shake washer you fitted at the bottom mounting, shouldn't that have been under the nut? That's where you would normally fit one. I'd use easy release lock tight as well, as we know REs do vibrate a bit, just to be belt and braces!!
@stuartfillingham I do hate to criticise your work, it takes ages to film even short videos, different angles ect. I have two days a week where I get up slightly earlier Wednesday and Friday, to watch your content and I get the bonus of your videos and those of AAR ON AIR. Both of you have interesting subjects and sensible adult content, however he never touches on the bad government issues you do. Keep up the great work.

Would these panniers & installation kit fit on a Meteor 350?
Looking at the Hitchcock site for these panniers under the 350 Classic section. the pannier blurb does not mention the extra fitting kit and I cannot see it listed seperately. Does the extra fitting kit come this pannier set?
no they made new racks now that dont need the kit.
What to do for the Meteor 350?
Nice over view and im sure they are super .
Its a lovely set of panniers and rails but way beyond my budget so I have to go for a cheaper set or not have any
£100 for pannier frames is too much? they are one of the cheapest around! The bags as I said are no longer available.
@@stuartfillingham 97 quid will buy two frames with panniers so they are definitely not the cheapest and looking at the close ups the welding is just as poor as all the rest.
@@Lee-70ish 97 quid for bags and rails by whom and from where?
@@themechanic2036 yes I would quite like the answer to this one. Been running this channel for 6 years and have been approached by just about every luggage manufacturer out there to review their gear but, have never seen anything worth having at that price. Actually I will rephrase that, ive never seen anything at that price. would be interested to review it, if it exists!
@@Lee-70ish as poor as all the rest of what?
About this Kit for Triumph T120? It is available?
id like these as well for my T100 Bonneville..
Xin chào Stuart, I am Tommy from Vietnam. I am owning a classic 350 just like you. However, In my country this kind of side Pannier Rack is not accessible yet. Is it possible that I can ask you for a detail Spec of this so I can order a handmade one from our local shop?
День добрый..обладаю точно таким же мотоциклом ..подскажите пожалуйста как правильно называется даное крепление для боковых сумок...заранее спасибо..
is pillion comfortable with those
Will these fit a Classic 500??
Nice video by the way
Is a shame these are not available
from Hitchcocks any more.
Sir why you not use legguard why saddle stay 😮
Calassic good clour 🎉🎉🎉
Good old Hitchcock's.
Definitely worth buying genuine and not ebay crap
I'm not one to complain, but the anti shake washer you fitted at the bottom mounting, shouldn't that have been under the nut? That's where you would normally fit one.
I'd use easy release lock tight as well, as we know REs do vibrate a bit, just to be belt and braces!!
LOL also not one for checking comments before commenting! already dealt with this first thing this morning!
Shame there is no options for the trials version
Ey up, ❤. If ever i happen to recognise you iin a pub, you can expect me to stay sitll and say nowt. And when im sure ill order misen another pint.
Some frame, that!
Это самый красивый мотоцикл!
It is impossible to order this kit from Russia. What a stupid time we live in! I will order another kit from India in this case.
Unfortunately Hitchcock Motorcycles aren't stocking these now. UFN. Very annoying!
