We have a 39 year age gap, and have been together for 10 years! We have an amazing life together :)

That's wonderful! 39 years it's a pretty big gap, but sounds like you guys were able to make it work.

Beautiful story I was in a relationship with an older man for 13 years I met him at a McDonald's back in 2004. I was 32 and he was 79 going on 80. He was such a very kind and caring man whom I loved very deeply with all my heart and soul. sadly he passed away in November of 2017 at the age of 93. I recently came out to my family and others I'm in the process of coming out to. My Mom said she knew about us and she did not judge one bit. It's great to finally be out !

Good to know that your mom handled the situation pretty well. Thanks for sharing your story. May he rest in peace.

I'm 58 and my partner of three years is 29. We live together in China. We both do well in our careers, but during the pandemic I lost my job in China and was stuck here. He took financial care of me without complaint, so it's not that "I'm keeping him". We laugh, we banter, I am older and wiser about some things and he helps me with anything electronic. We just work as a couple. In my African culture, we say, "Every pot has a lid." And its true!

Thanks for sharing your experience. Also, people tend to forget financial abuse happens between same-age couples all the time. That is not an age specific issue.

We used to call age difference relations "May-December" relationships years back.

I'm 31 and my wife is 51, we have two children both age 10. I personally see nothing wrong with it, the moment you're an adult it should be irrelevant how old your partner is. I had issues because she was my former high school teacher, eventually my mother and father approved of the relationship and we have been married since 2014.

My parents were about 15 years apart and that was never ever an issue at all either. Honestly I never even thought about it growing up. I'm not saying that always works for everyone, but it doesn't automatically make it wrong either.

It is always nice to hear and see these types of scenarios. Yet it is remarkable to try and understand the amazement. Before people began to live longer...did we all date the partners of the same age? Younger women always married older more experienced men, back in the day....and there were no raised eyebrows. Yet today...everyone is so judgmental and critical. Color, age, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation,bi,trans,deaf,blind...and on and on. Why in the world would any advanced Alien species want to interact with humans??? We are petty and small minded.....We are our own worst enemies. Love the channel...yet it seems like such a moot issue. Who cares??? Can we just all be happy... for anyone who is not killing someone and paying their taxes. Grow Up!!

And usually the ones who are that judgmental are the ones who have failed miserably. Maybe they feel if they throw tantrums, they can hide behind the loud noises they’re making.

2 adults should be with whoever they want and without judgement. I want guys MUCH younger than I and when I get pushback from gay people--I get angry!

I have always felt that intergenerational relationships were simply a boy/sugar daddy relationship, and have treated such as that all my life (now 88). I've been stung more than once because of this, lost a lot of money because of it, and have decided never to have any relationship with anyone years younger than myself.
I think that those relationships which are successful are indeed fortunate, but also few and far between.

    • @lgbtqarchives

That sounds more like a failed repeated pattern than an issue with a particular age-related relationship though. Are there boy/sugar daddy relationships out there? Of course there are. Some older guys and younger boys/girls are into that type of relationship. They even have paid services for that idea, but you can't use that to generalize a whole concept. Since I've been working on this project, I've seen many age-gap relationships that are exactly the opposite of what you described. The older one in the relationship is retired and lives on social security, and the younger is the one who has a full time job and really the breadwinner in the family. I've also seen many age-gap relationship fail because the younger always works and doesn't have much time for anything...whereas the older one has so much time on his hand (rightfully so) and wants to enjoy life but there's that conflict. Besides, same-age relationships can be extremely toxic as well. Financial abuse or abusive behavior in general can happen to anyone and everyone. So there's that perspective as well. Now, if a well-established older man wants to date an 18 year old who doesn't even know what he wants? That's just asking for trouble!

I don't see any problem, really.
If there’s comprehension, when it comes to understanding generation differences and interests, gap means nothing serious.

I've been together with my partner for 30 years, I'm 62 now and he's 82. And it's been an open relationship for those 30 years. I've always been interested in older men since age 15, which is when I came out, officially 18, wink. At age 15 I was having sex with a priest that I seduced, he didn't seduce me, lol. He was about 20 to 30yrs older. After that all the men I dated were about the same age, between 20 - 30yrs older. I own my home, I've lived in my home since age 3. My foster parents gave it to me after they passed. My partner had a stroke in 2011 and I take care of him between working. It's hard but we are a team, I cook for me now like he use to before his stroke. We've made it work for 30 years and I'm sure it's going to continue working, wink. Have a GREAT week, and thanks for sharing your story.
