Your book, your teaching style, your attitudes, and your LSAT philosophy are groundbreaking. I recommended it to people in my Power Score course who were having trouble with concepts that are only ever explained in one hit-or-miss way across other LSAT programs.
Number 17 was a great example because I usually get stuck between two attractive choices, so it was good to see how certain words used is what sets apart the right answer from the wrong one
Got the Trainer. Got the tests in the mail today. 14 week plan here I come. Mike Kim's work, opposed to other major LSAT prep companies, proposes simplicity and understanding of basic tasks coupled with repetition in pairs. As someone who has in previous years taken the LSAT and used other companies, I find what I have so far used from Mike to be exactly what I'm looking for in self-study. Many thanks Mike and I hope my positive views persist as I continue through the program .
Thanks Kurt -- appreciate the comment and glad to hear that you have found the Trainer useful thus far -- wish you the best moving forward, and if you need anything don't hesitate to get in touch on the Trainer site -- www.thelsattrainer.com/ask-mike-kim.html -- take care -- Mike
thank you so much -- it was, for me, a labor of love -- I know it sounds cheesy to say that about an LSAT study guide, but, well, I guess that's why I write LSAT study guides -- appreciate you giving your attention to it -- hope the studying is going well.
Very helpful. I usually feel inadequate because the questions bring up outside issues that I thought I was supposed to know answers to. I am so relieved to understand that is part of the test itself, knowing when the question is not in the lane of the discussion, so knowing I can narrow the scope to the text is comforting. I have an imagination so knowing I don't need to use it is great.
I can NOT thank you ENOUGH for this videos. I have taken the lsat 3 times with very low scores. You explain issues very well and give fantastic advise with all sections. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this.
I've been very nervous about taking my LSATs mainly because of this section. I've thought for this section I have to do so much but what you showed in the video is brilliant. I'm still nervous for the exam but not as nervous because you just gave me so great advice. Thank you very much
Have gone from a 140 to a 162 in about 10 weeks with 2 more weeks to go because of your program. Wouldn't have been here without you and am excited to see how I do on the actual exam!
Hey Mike, fantastic work. Just wanted to offer an additional note about why 17 B is incorrect. 17 B says that "such documents can not be protected from unauthorized distribution...." but the passage makes it clear that creating a link to a document should not be considered the same as distribution. From the passage: "Hence creating a link to a document is not the same as making or distributing a copy of that document." Just another detail that makes this answer extra wrong!
With this strong method- is it safe to say that u are not concerned with finishing the entire RC section, but making sure that the pace that u are at ensures that the questions you answer you have a greater chance of success? Should I even be concerned with completing the entire sec on test day?
Hey Mike! Your videos are so helpful. I just ordered your book. I have a year until I take the test and reading comprehension is kicking my tail. What novels or publications would you advise I read to obtain better RC skills. Thanks!
Hey Ben -- glad you find the videos helpful and excited to see how the book turns out for you -- The most common LSAT-related advice is to read a lot of dense material, such as The Economist -- I'm not so sure I agree with that -- I do think it's very important to read a lot -- and to be in "great reading shape" -- One book I suggest to everyone is "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson -- it offers multiple benefits in that a) it is science written for non-science readers -- same as LSAT science passages b) it discusses a huge % of the major scientific events of the modern era, and thus will very likely cover something that is, at least tangentially, related to what your LSAT science passage will be about c) it is, at least in my opinion, incredibly inspiring, and it can also really get you hooked on reading. Other than that, I suggest that you just try to work on reading as many high-quality books/materials as you can in any subjects that you find interesting -- HTH - Good luck with your studies and get in touch if you need me - MK
Write all of your answers on a separate sheet of paper. Doing so allows you to come back to the same question in the future--once you've forgotten the answer--and try again. I do this with logic games. There is one game I've done multiple times and made the exact same diagramming mistake three times! Fourth time is the charm, I hope.
@@TheLSATTrainer Hi Mike! Two things. 1. How would you advise using Bible books with your book? 2. Should I do more timed full tests from PT 52-61 once done with your 16 week plan, 62-81? I scored 149 in cold diagnostic. I will sit for LSAT in January 2020. Score goal 168-171. Thank you!
I got each of these correct, but I did horribly on and am still confused about the CO2/global warming passage in the book. Is there a video explanation of that passage?!
I'm loving the trainer so far and would like to thank you for all of this. However, the email you all provide on your website has not responded to me and it's been over 3 months. Is there any other way to privately have questions answered about your material? Or do I have to ask my questions here?
I have a question: In question 21., why the option B is an incorrect answer? As to using the analogy, it does represents two sides of the copyright debate and it does seem like an attractive answer. Can you give more context to why this is a wrong answer? Thanks so much Mike. Have a great Wednesday! :)
Hi, so my understanding is that B is incorrect NOT because the telephone conversation is NOT used as an analogy, but because it is NOT used to illustrate the two sides of the passage (which answer B states), it is more so used to provide support for the author's side of the copyright issue. Hope this helps!
I have a question. When you say, "Try it untimed and review as carefully as you can," could this suggestion apply to the second time you take a practice test in general, when the questions are different from the first practice exam you did, or is this only when you're going through the same passage as before? Thank you. This video was helpful!
I have a question. When you recommend that when practicing for the LSAT we practice the same passage again until we master it, I would like to know why is this helpful if the LSAT has different passages and test questions? Why couldn't we just apply the same technique you taught us to different passages? Thanks!
I am registered for the LSAT in July. I took a sample exam (June 2007) today, just to see where I'm starting from, and scored 161. If I have 14 weeks to study full-time, is it possible I could hit 175 or above? Thanks!
Hi Jesse -- recommend that you check out my book, The LSAT Trainer, and the free study schedules available on the Trainer website -- seems the 8 week schedule can suit you well -- good luck!
In question 21......B and D are essentially the same answer and I was bent on the word analogy which ultimately led me to picking B. Would you be able to explain further?
Hi, so my understanding is that B is incorrect NOT because the telephone conversation is NOT used as an analogy, but because it is NOT used to illustrate the two sides of the passage (which answer B states), it is more so used to provide support for the author's side of the copyright issue. However, if the author used the telephone conversation analogy to explain BOTH SIDES of the copyright law debate, then it could be correct. It is not the "analogy" part of answer B that makes it wrong, its the part that says that it is used to "illustrate the positions taken by each of the two sides in the copyright debate." Hey Ben -- glad you find the videos helpful and excited to see how the book turns out for you --
The most common LSAT-related advice is to read a lot of dense material, such as The Economist --
I'm not so sure I agree with that -- I do think it's very important to read a lot -- and to be in "great reading shape" --
One book I suggest to everyone is "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson -- it offers multiple benefits in that
a) it is science written for non-science readers -- same as LSAT science passages
b) it discusses a huge % of the major scientific events of the modern era, and thus will very likely cover something that is, at least tangentially, related to what your LSAT science passage will be about
c) it is, at least in my opinion, incredibly inspiring, and it can also really get you hooked on reading.
Other than that, I suggest that you just try to work on reading as many high-quality books/materials as you can in any subjects that you find interesting --
