When I was going to school for jazz performance, a couple of my friends and I covered this song and I will never forget how amazing it was to play this live in front of my professors
Yeah the whole sentiment "All the good rap from the 90s is gone, all the good rock from the 70s is gone" is garbage. There's amazing music all throughout time, you just have to go find it! The people who throw shade and generalize are only ignorant
@@QactisX To be fair, it's pretty easy to get jaded like that when all you do is listen to the radio, and you heard great stuff back in the day but now it's no longer on the radio. I mean, of course you're right about having to just go look for it, but that can be tough at times when you really don't want to sift through the muck of a whole lot of bad stuff. Pandora seems to be the best at helping you find new stuff you'll like, at least IMO.
@@RicoLen1 I've found awesome music on UA-cam, Spotify, and Apple Music as well. It can be found, but requires effort. No more effort than it took to find a record at the record store, or pay to see a show not knowing what to expect.
You put into words what I could not. What a beautiful concept! For the first time in awhile, I am excited for the future of music. Thank you for the fresh perspective.
Your right, no one person in the band is more important than the rest, they all need each other equally to come together and make beautiful music like this. Everyone, the listeners, the band members, everything only revolves around the music itself and the feelings it invokes
Whatever the summit is, they reached it with this song. The songwriting, musicianship, production, band chemistry all came together to produce IMHO the best song to come out of the entire instrumental metal genre.
I just love how it's not entirely technical spit. "Here's my sweeps, here's my complex arpeggios, here's other bullshit" Yeah, it's hard to play, but it's not about difficulty. It's about the feeling it evokes, and STS has always been really good at this. Always a pleasure to listen to. Some of their earlier works can be a bit repetitive in terms of entire albums when you listen to the songs too much, but their newer stuff has been breaking that more and more, and I can't wait to see these guys continue growing.
Cameron Hewett In prog metal, people say technical music to groups that focus really heavily on coming up with the most complicated and difficult thing they can. Check out Animals As Leaders for an example.
I agree bro its not about making the fastest and hardest music to play, It's about making the most kick ass sounding music whether its technical or not.
So we smoked up in the back of cultural building of the University in my city and when we were returning, I listened to the starting riff of this song. This was pure bliss. I followed the sound and found 4 guys practicing this in a room with their high-end gear. I couldn't help it so I went straight into the room, waited for them to finish and asked what the track was when they told me the name of the song. Man I've been hooked to this one since that time. I placed it in my best of the bests' hall of fame. This is beauty at it's finest levels man. Would really appreciate anyone if they recommended some more music like this or some another great song by the band as now I know what they're capable of. Peace ✌️🏻
Spotify's "Discover Weekly" introduced me to Scale The Summit this week. I'm absolutely blown away by the beauty of the music performed in these pieces!
Bigtime1998 about a week ago for me. They have a very similar sound to children of Nova which is another great band if you were in need of any suggestions.. This is a very peacefully brilliant song and thanks to Spotify it's now a song I'll be listening to from now on.
Mark Michell is a genius, man. The bass chords beginning @3:23? I have no idea how the last half of the song is the 'least listened to' part here on UA-cam, but that section is an absolute work of art on bass.
I've listened to many things: Death metal, black metal, heavy meal, jazz, classical, neoclassical etc. I must say that Scale the Summit has its own genre and that no other song within my musical knowledge is as both unique and coherently composed as this one.
WOW, the bass work on that is amazing and the EQ makes it not drown in the mix, the guitar parts are awesome as well, loved the way the delay were used.
I fucking adore this song, this entire piece is a genuine masterpiece and the last minute of this song gives me a sense of pure bliss that is hard to find in any other song.
When I heard Chris play that riff in a studio update, I literally fell in love with the song before I even heard the whole thing. Now that I have, no disappointment. I felt like a little kid when i saw this song posted haha
The number of views on this is saddening but then again this music is not for everybody, only those smart enough to comprehend the complexity in this will appreciate it. So be glad you are one of those few.
yea, I mean everyone knows scale the summit has amazing guitar players, but im always impressed by their bassist and drummer as much as the guitar players
I saw you guys opening for Cynic in Montreal. i became a fan that very night. The Migration hadn't come out t that time so i got the latest one at the time which is The Collective. my brother who came to the show eventually got The Migration and it is the best i have heard of your music. I will see about getting a copy of it.
+yay rice The fuck is math rock? I've been hearing that term a lot and it sounds really fucking dumb. Instrumental rock is always what comes to mind.. not math rock.
This music gives my ears meaning for its existence. It has that chill factor that one needs in life to think of the positive things. Very excited for your new album!
I listened to Monument and The Collective while tripping face. It was absolutely amazing my friend and I had trouble finding our minds afterwards. I most definitely recommend it!
Mark is making an amazing footprint on these new songs! Such good note choices. Pat is killer on the drums, but that's normal. He's a phenomenal player. Chris and Travis are impressively melodic as always. I'm so glad I pre ordered this CD!
Not only am I thrilled to be listening to their new material, but it's just so GOOD. Also, whomever the artist is behind the visuals, did a really stunning job. So in tune with what i'm listening to.
I just love how this tune really fits with their name. When I went up a big hillock in the Lake District last week, I couldn't get this tune out my head. It's just annoying I haven't bought the album yet!
Having a nice little throwback here to Sean Malone's band Gordian Knot while listening to this. Very beautiful example of rhythm and echo used together in a djent-y/proggy/The Edge way. Nicely done. Were any Chapman Sticks harmed in the making of this song?
Man, I recall seeing these guys a few years back with Cynic and 3. Easily the best night of my life. I went for Cynic and came out a huge fan of 3 and these guys!
Just when I thought "The Levitated" was untouchable.. they do it again...these guys are doing all the right things, keep it up!! These songs make me feel like I can do anything! Motivation and inspiration when I hear these songs. Thank You STS.
I see too many negative comments when it comes to seeing talent better than their own, though i understand, you should be INSPIRED! This should excite you in ways you've never felt before to be better than Chris and Travis!
The cover reminds me of Yes, The title (Atlas) reminds me of Yes' Fragile. The bass reminds me of Squire's Schindleria Praematurus. Feel excited and nostalgic at the same time.

Every day I hear another band that moves my music muscle.
Kinda like when i first discovered Yes (at 17), mind blown (expanded ?)

That's the big difference between technical music and progressive music in my eyes.
EpsilonX That makes no sense. "Technical" is applicable to any style.
What I mean is it takes more than just technical playing to make progressive music

2:57 - 3:24. It makes me sad every time. They are really technical and brilliant, but the melodies, music and feeling are there.
2:57 - the end makes me feel things I haven't in a long time. I understand completely.
10 years later and still jam to this song almost daily.
One of my all time favorite songs, love Scale the Summit.

The way music is suppose to sound; beautiful.

Me too, I was uncovering others in this progressive field and somehow missed them until they dropped this track while I was playing an artist radio

I'm so in love with the bass guitar in this song.
the bass work in this is epic
Mark Michell is a genius, man. The bass chords beginning @3:23? I have no idea how the last half of the song is the 'least listened to' part here on UA-cam, but that section is an absolute work of art on bass.
Best evidence, that you can still find good music today. You just have to look for it! :)
It is actually refreshing to hear the instruments sing instead of a person for a change
I've listened to many things: Death metal, black metal, heavy meal, jazz, classical, neoclassical etc. I must say that Scale the Summit has its own genre and that no other song within my musical knowledge is as both unique and coherently composed as this one.
***** lmfao xD "heavy meal"
You could say that about any Prog band
Check out these banda for similar sounds. And so I watch you from afar. Giraffes?Giraffes! Don Cabellaro.
You don't listen to prog then. Because shit like this is everywhere in the genre. Oh they're prog, BTW. That's their genre. It's not their own.
Sounds like Coldplay on Roids.
Who would have said metal would be able to be relaxing and atmospheric 30 years ago? Awesome.
