In 1972, I was 14, sent for tickets, and attended the show during Season 1. I've attended numerous times over the years at Television City. In the late 1990s, I co-hosted a weekly radio show on KRLA in Los Angeles and Bob was nice enough to spend an hour with us as our special guest. Fast forward to 2023, the first day of taping in the show's new home at Haven Studios, I got picked and ended up winning the Showcase. It only took 51 years! The cars and other prizes are nicer now, but back in the day, Chevy Novas, AMC Gremlins and Ford Fiestas were regularly on the prize roster. And you gotta love Bob's era-appropriate eath tone attire.
These early episodes are such a hoot: All the brown and yellow colors, Bob with so much upbeat enthusiasm and dark hair, almost 90% of the contestants women, contestants all dressed nice and in shape, subdued audience, junk cars for prizes... love it.
It was rare for a car to have air conditioning then. Even in households it wasn't very common, perhaps 25%. Now it's so common, that when they list features of cars on the Price Is Right, they don't mention it, if my memory is correct.
My first car was a 1970 Gremlin. It was “loaded” with the bigger engine, 14 inch wheels, bucket seats, carpeting, 3 on the floor, roof rack, avocado green with a big white stripe and factory air conditioning. I loved that car!
I'm sure that car no longer exists and was scrapped and the metal recycled long ago. Just think, that toaster you have at home could have some of the steel from this very car inside it.
I haven't seen a blueish purple car since the Gremlin. Our economy wasn't wracked with mega-inflation back then. The loaded 1980 Firebird in my Avatar was just over $10,000 brand new. Can't we just throw away our smartphones and our internet and go back to this simpler time??? I'm driving ... GET IN
Bob suit and dress suit actually matches the colors of the turntable and big doors set as well as the giant TPIR tag and the Money Game board circa 1973.
Unless I'm mistaken, the girl in green, called down as "Judith Blume" bears a striking resemblance to the renowned author, Judy Blume. Is this a pre-fame appearance?
I have to say the Gremlin was a much better looking car than the than the ugly Pontiac 1000s the show tried to dump on unsuspecting contestants in the 80s. (I’d also rather have an AMC vehicle from the seventies than anything from GM.)
Robert , proving he is not so smart ! 😑. She obviously didn't win at this time & didn't win a Gremlin the point 🙄 of the op. Nice that she won later but she got no Gremlin .. Be silent 🤫 Robert.

And to think that some people on here would still take a Pontiac Aztek or a Nissan Cube over a Gremlin 😅

With inflation, a small car like that would be 20000 dollars in today's money, at least, if not more. It is insane.
No Gremlin, please. They were too risky.
