Both voters on the panel say Jokic but they say it should be closer....??? I think they don't understand how voting works.
Why? Jokic could be very slightly favorite but the MVP feel basically like a coin toss, or Jokic could be vastly favorite and for any other winner to be unthinkable. In both scenarios Jokic has the best odds, but the probability distribution is different. What is it that you don't understand about their disagreement?

He only plays for Slovenia because his parents split when he was a kid, ans he remained with his mom. He listens to Serbian music only (go check out Dallas pregame warmups), speaks fluent Serbian, etc... Check out also how it was when Boban Marjanovic played for Dallas.

Luka's mother also is Slovenian so both of Luka's parents are born and raised here and are Slovenians. Saša's parents however are indeed of Serbian descent but mothers parents are of Slovenian descent so there is Serbian ancestry in the bloodline no doubt but you saying Luka's father is Serbian is not true.

luka deserves the MVP. dallas was dealing with a ton of injuries which hurt them mid season. but luka kept the mavs afloat. if luka had pj and gaff at the start, they would be top 3 in the west.
You can’t use a hypothetical to justify Luka’s MVP case. The Mavs didn’t have those players before the deadline. End of story. Jamal Murray has now missed more games than Kyrie and Jokić still leads the in just about every advanced stat and the Nuggets are the #1 seed. His impact is greater than Luka’s (largest point discrepancy in the league +11/-9 when he’s on/off the court). And he does all this with a much lower usage rate than Luka.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Luka and I think he’s one of the league’s 3 best players, but he doesn’t deserve MVP this year.
Yeah and it doesn't matter what everyone thinks, because if you have been following Luka and the Mavs, you know they are going to perform in the Playoffs. I would bet all my money on a Nuggets vs Dallas Western Conference final. But Jokic vs Luka... Don't know. I'd say it's 50-50 at this point in time.
@@benrobinson1841 THere are all sorts of factors and narratives that come into play for the MPV race. It's also full of double standards, for one player the team seeding matters, for other his defense, there's voters fatigue, etc.
That said, the reason I have Luke over Jokic this time is because Luke has leveled up from before. Jokic, while doing fantastic, hasn't done anything more special than previously. Luka is putting more insane numbers, has had better moments this season such as the 72 game, and carried the Mavs when they were hindered by injuries.
Also, Jokic already has 2 MVPs and I feel it's time for Luka to get one, too. Otherwise we may have a Kobe situation where he finally wins it but in not as a great season. Just like DiCaprio won his academy awards for a lesser film/role than he had previously put out.

The only player they lost was Bruce brown and Peyton Watson has replaced him and played better. Only real in the nuggets have had to deal with is Murray. Other than that their lineups have been the same for the past 2-4 years. Luka comes in with a new lineup nearly every few weeks due to injuries.

There are two ways to look at this scenario. 1st way is by "race". Jokic is obviously white and this makes some people uncomfortable as he would be joining the elite club of mostly black players up at the top in NBA history with his 3rd MVP win. 2nd way to look at this is through "stats". Statistically speaking this man is almost averaging a triple double this season, which is absolutely out of this world compared to historical numbers of MVP's. His stats are insane, even when compared to the greatest players that ever played the game, and that is not an opinion that is a fact. So statistically speaking, he is not only a 100% an MVP this season, but "statistically speaking" the best MVP NBA player to ever play the game, and this again is not an opinion, this is a statistical FACT.

So obviously his lingering injuries and teammates out effected his personal stats and team record but he kept his team together through his leadership and currently they pulled through with a strong finish and are now the 5 seed and luka is also the nbas leading scorer along with other impressive stats.

It's not just about stats, it's about winning titles. And Luka, is exceptionally good at figuring out the opponent and knowing how to win and play well in the clutch. Dallas might not win the chip this year, but probably will next year. And in my opinion, with Kyrie and the supporting cast they have the best chance of becoming the next Dynasty, like Golden State and win multiple titles. Just my opinion of the future though.

What happened to playing both ends of the court. In the past MVP's played defense, look at the actual game!
The only thing these voters care about is Efficiency. That's the cold hard truth of it. And Jokic dominated PER for his 1st & 2nd MVP, and this year he's top PER again, hence why he'll win the 3rd.
But it's such a warped way of thinking, and undermines the whole narrative arguments that get thrown at Luka for why he shouldn't win MVP. Mavs & Luka had more wins in 21-22 regular season than Jokic & Nuggets, yet Jokic won MVP. Then SAS threw out his stupid comment about Luka & Mavs fighting for the 5th seed in the West this season, despite Luka putting up historical numbers and the Mavs having another 50 win season when almost every major analyst and expert predicted them not to even make the PLAY-IN!
There has to be a complete reset of the way MVP is awarded because it's clear some of these voters don't have a clue what they're saying or are even WATCHING the games. Jokic will be a deserving winner, but to have the size of disparity between Jokic & Luka is criminal.
