- In this video myself and my friend Johnny ladfromtad.com head up to the West Highlands of Scotland to recce The Charlie Ramsey Round.
A long distance mountain running challenge, it takes in 24 West Highland summits, has over 8,700 meters of elevation and has to be done in under 24 hours. An epic challenge which requires preparation. Hence our recce.
Having checked MWIS and knowing the weather would change during the trip we planned accordingly. Unbeknownst to us was how much the change would be and the approching storm was named after we'd left.
Storm Babet started its arrival during our first night and intensified over the next few days. With recorded wind speeds in excess of 80mph and high levels of flooding nationwide Storm Babet caused major disruption...
My partner in crime for this trip was Johnny. A well travelled fell runner originating from the Lake District. He's undertaken a fair share of adventures over the years one of which was driving to Mongolia in a Nissan Micra, all documented in his blog. Check out his blog ladfromtad.com it's a great read.
Thanks for watching
John.
It’s always good to visit new areas.. I love big mountains and Scotland has the best the U.K has to offer. However, I will always love the Lakes 😉
Some big hills there. Best wishes.
Loved every minute of virtually being there John.
Great shots, full of info.
These are adventures chronic conditions won't allow me to attempt anymore. Thanks for sharing 👍👏🏞️
Cheers mate glad you enjoyed it 👌🏻
Another great video John, really enjoyed that. Showcased what Scotland has to offer and also how tough the weather can get! 🤣
Thanks Richard. I love Scotland.. a real character building place 😉
Honestly, Scotland just looks breathtaking, and amazing stuff as usual John. Thx
Thanks man glad you enjoyed it 👌🏻
great Vid. again, thanks for sharing with us all.
Loved this one John. Been missing you! Real different tone and feel to this one...as you say the Scottish hills alone do that. Some of those bothies are properly scary however - never fancy them on my own. 😱
Thanks :) Some of those bothies have real character especially when you’re in one on your own 👻
I love the Lake district, it's where i cut my teeth in the outdoors & is local to me, but once i discovered the Scottish Highlands, i strangely felt instantly more at home there. There really is no place like it, beautiful & often brutal, i can't wait to get back there again next year.
My sentiment too mate.. the Lakes has a bit of everything Scotland takes it up a notch.
Loved it. Great to see something slightly differently from you mate, but with all the things I love about your videos - the editing and audio, you, and the mountains captured perfectly. Will be interesting to see the route ran. Love Scotland, and like you, will always be a Lake District boy ⛰️
Thanks Simon I appreciate that. Not sure when I’ll make an attempt at the challenge probably next year. More prep needed 🤘🏻
I want to do this in the summer. I’d arrive on the bus from London around lunchtime and I’d take 3.5 days to do it. It’s a big walk so well done!! I’d take a bivy and tarp and maybe do some summit camps to stay away from the midges. There looks like there’s plenty of springs and lochans along the route. Thanks
Nice one Ben you’ll have a great time, it’s an awesome area. I’ll probably be heading back up there to do a Tranter’s Round during the summer. 👌🏻
Absolutely AWESOME mate. Took me back in an instant. It was a brilliant trip, can't wait to get back up there 👍💪😁
It was an awesome trip mate. Looking forward to spring and a return! 🤘🏻
That looked cold and not much fun. I do love that whole area but I would have bailed earlier and stayed in the bothy. 😂Scotland is such a wild place compared to the Lakes.
It was chilly! 😂
Awesome.
Is it fair to ask,do you prefer it to the lakes?
This is such a great video mate. November rematch 😃🙏
