“Handle With Care” was written by George Harrison and originally intended as the B-side for his 1988 “This Is Love” single (yes, with four featured artists). But when the record label deemed it “too good”, the Wilburys formed to record more songs for an album. The song’s title was decided after initially coming up with a few lines, when Dylan asked “What’s the song called and what is about?” and Harrison saw a box with a “Handle With Care” sticker. “Handle With Care” was the supergroup’s debut single, reaching the top 40 in seven countries including a #2 peak in Canada. They are essentially "Beatles" tunes. The first was written by George. He sings the lead. The lyrics reflect "The Beatles" history. Roy Orbison's guitar is on a rocking chair in tribute because he died before this video was made.
Roy Orbison was arguably the greatest voice ever in the 60s - the Beatles opened for him in Europe and were huge fans of his. FYI, the Traveling Wilburys as a group are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but every member of the band IS in the Hall of Fame either as a solo artist or with their previous group or both, in the case of George Harrison.
Now that you've seen the Wilburys first few videos and have had exposure to ELO, I would suggest Jeff Lynne's later song "When I Was a Boy". I won't spoil it, but I suggest watching the video as well.
The reason you don't see Roy is that they did this as a tribute to Roy joining "The End of the Line". RIP (BTW, Roy was Elvis' idol when he was coming up.)
When George was asked how do the Travelling Wilburys sound, his reply was it sounds very wooden. What a laugh. Unfortunately, Roy Orbison passed away before their second album, aptly titled Volume 3.
Dylan had great song when he sang lead called Tweeter and The Monkey Man The traveling Wilburys in my opinion were the best group that came out of the 80s
Hey Lee, I seen a lot of comments telling you why Roy Orbison wasn't in the second video. The rocking chair thing was a pretty cool way of keeping Roy in it. I hope one of the other songs your gonna be do from the Wilbury's is Roy's song, Not Alone Anymore.
@@L33Reacts I believe George wrote Handle with Care. It was intended for his own album that Jeff was producing. 'Been stuck in airports, terrorized Sent to meetings, hypnotized Overexposed, commercialized' Pure George!
All these guys did this because they were all friends who just bumped into each other one weekend through the process of George recording a bit of stuff in LA. He needed to borrow a guitar from Tom Petty(with the hat) , and was going to record at Bob Dylan's house. George was recording with Jeff Lynn (ELO) who was talking with Roy Orbison (glasses, older guy, died of natural causes right after recording this album before some of the videos were done.) Tom and his band had just finished backing up Bob Dylan for a year on the road. This whole thing was done on a whim.
Both of these songs were mostly written by George, but most of this collaboration was done sitting in a room in a circle of guitars throwing out lines until the songs were done. This was all accidentally here just because George wanted to borrow a guitar from Tom. He would rarely bring his guitars from London with him on the planes. He was only in Los Angeles for a little while to record an album with Jeff Lynn as producer.
I bought this album (on cassette!) when it first came out. Played it to death, but never grew tired of it. Then bought Volume 3 (the second album) on CD. Now I have the collection that includes outtakes from both albums and a DVD featuring all their videos and the documentary about the group. It remains a favourite often played part of my music library. R.I.P. George, Roy and Tom.

keltner is the man. glad he got to play with these guys! i can't wait to hear the other requests i have for them now.
@@L33Reacts Yeah, agreed. Keltners appearance history with so many bands over his career is amazing.
They are essentially "Beatles" tunes.
The first was written by George. He sings the lead. The lyrics reflect "The Beatles" history.
Roy Orbison's guitar is on a rocking chair in tribute because he died before this video was made.
R.I.P. "Lefty"
Thank you for this!! My favorite Beatle!!!!!
So glad to see the albums made it to you, hopefully no broken ones! So nice to be able to see them. Blessings!
yes, they came in the mail yesterday! thank you so much! i had to show them off today... :)
Love Georges Limpy slide work it appears weak, but is Powerful and all his own way of playing!
Now that you've seen the Wilburys first few videos and have had exposure to ELO, I would suggest Jeff Lynne's later song "When I Was a Boy". I won't spoil it, but I suggest watching the video as well.
I will keep that one in mind. thank you, spider.
You need to do some Roy Orbison reactions. He's got one of the most recognizable voices in rock. Id suggest Crying, Oh Pretty Woman, or In Dreams.
When Jeff Lynne is producing, the rest set their egos aside... And take part in the magic.
A good chunk of lyrics in Handle wiith care were Georges: Over exposed, commercialized. sent to airports hypnotized are pure Beatles descriptions
The reason you don't see Roy is that they did this as a tribute to Roy joining "The End of the Line". RIP (BTW, Roy was Elvis' idol when he was coming up.)
Fabulous musicians all 💞 love them forever ♾️ Thank you!
The first album was written and recorded in about 3 weeks. When the band was being considered all of them said it would only work with Orbison.
i'm not gonna lie, his voice made the first song. and dylans lyrics.
@@L33Reacts I believe George wrote Handle with Care. It was intended for his own album that Jeff was producing.
'Been stuck in airports, terrorized
Sent to meetings, hypnotized
Overexposed, commercialized'
Pure George!
Roy Orbison sang the bridge on handle with care. Tom Petty is singing with Dylan.
Didn't Roy sing the pre-chorus?
About tthe 3rd verse with the empty rocking chair they grafted in a frail sounding Roy Orbison's voice. RIP.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks L33; one of my favorite albums. EVER.
The whole Wilbury's Volume 1 is fantastic, recommended.
Tom Petty may be the best American composer ever. A string of top 10 hits from the 70s until 2010s.
