listen to Inside Out and Not Alone Anymore from The Traveling Wilburys
The idea for the traveling Wilburys came from Jeff and George who were good friends. All of them were in awe Even being in the same place as Roy Orbison.
I read an interview with Tom Petty, who recounted how the group came together, and he remembered being along for a car ride with Dylan and Harrison after they got Orbison to be in the group. Petty said that during the whole ride, George and Bob were like little kids as they kept shouting "Roy Orbison's in our band!!!!"
@@russallert I read an account of when they were first rehearsing. It was in a house I think? In any case, any time any of them were together and Roy was either not there or in a different part of the house, they would say, in awe to one another things like 'we're playing with ROY ORBISON!' as if they couldn't believe it.
An obscure band booked small venues before releasing their music. The patrons were shocked and excited to realize who the members of this band, “The Traveling Willburys”, were.
@@L33Reacts You will love Tweeter. It's like a movie set to music. Honestly, EVERY song on the first TW album is a winner. Check out Orbison's Not Alone Any More.

Orbison had one of the most recognizable and beautiful voices in pop music. He was enjoying a career resurgence in the late 80s before his untimely death. 'She's a Mystery to me' from his posthumous album is worth a listen, along with his many hits from the 60s.
I can't believe you don't get tired listening to this old amazing, fantastic bullshit for a living. Music is amazing isn't it? These guys are legends...
Producer Jeff Lynne had a hot streak starting with Harrison's "Cloud Nine" in 87, then Orbison's "Mystery Girl" that same year, then the Wilbury's record in 1988, then Tom's "Full Moon Fever" in 1989, then Jeff's own solo record "Armchair Theater" in 1990, then the Tom Petty / Heartbreakers "Into The Great Wide Open" in 1991, and the Wilbury's Vol 3 record in 1992, Jeff's sound was all over the radio during that period.
It was Roy Orbison you thought was Tom Petty (who's wearing the hat). The in-joke about him singing the lonely part is that's what most of his songs were about. They clearly had such a blast making this album.
The empty rocking chair is representing Roy Orbison. He passed away. I read all the other superstar Wilburys were fans of Orbison. Roy, George, Tom are gone, but not forgotten.
What we all don't realize in the beginning is that we're actually watching the inside of Dylan's house. Wich for me it's just a privilege. That's the studio in his home 😊
George had this song he was obligated to record for a b-side and went to Petty's house to retrieve his guitar Tom had stored for him. Jeff Lynne had produced Petty, and Petty and George were big pals of Dylan and of course George knew Roy Orbison from early Beatle touring days (Roy was an act on one of their shows). Funny how all these connections come together. Kinda cosmically intended to be. After this Wilbury release, titled Vol 1. they did a second album titled Vol 3 (for a joke). George always had a wry sense of humor.
I always imagine the story, when George presented "Handle with Care" to the executives in George's record company, with him being such a humble man maybe with a story like that: "You know, I've got this little song here, had some friends help me with it. What do you think, is it any good?" and then the faces of the people around, listening to it.🤭
George had so many great friends. If you have any doubt, all you have to do is watch Concert for George that Eric Clapton helped coordinate a year after George's death. Too many great musicians to name.
“Handle With Care” was written by George Harrison and originally intended as the B-side for his 1988 “This Is Love” single (yes, with four featured artists). But when the record label deemed it “too good”, the Wilburys formed to record more songs for an album. The song’s title was decided after initially coming up with a few lines, when Dylan asked “What’s the song called and what is about?” and Harrison saw a box with a “Handle With Care” sticker. “Handle With Care” was the supergroup’s debut single, reaching the top 40 in seven countries including a #2 peak in Canada. In the US, it peaked at #45 in December 1988.

FYI, the Traveling Wilburys as a group are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but every member of the band IS in the Hall of Fame either as a solo artist or with their previous group or both, in the case of George Harrison.
Tom Petty - A Face In The Crowd
Roy Orbison - In Dreams
George Harrison - Beware of Darkness
Electric Light Orchestra - Fire On High
When Jeff Lynne is producing, the rest set their egos aside... And take part in the magic.
Roy Orbison is represented by the guitar in the rocking chair (and by a photo on a shelf)
RIP
Both songs composed by George, lyrics by all of them.
The man in sunglasses is Roy Orbison, of "Oh, Pretty Woman,"and "Crying." And George! Just George. For my generation there's only one George. And Mr. Zimmerman, in a damn group. (That's Dylan)
When George was asked how do the Travelling Wilburys sound, his reply was it sounds very wooden. What a laugh. Unfortunately, Roy Orbison passed away before their second album, aptly titled Volume 3.
LOVE these songs! Not trying to be mean, but “That’s Tom Petty, right?” I thought you were joking at first. 😂
Great, thanks!! I agree Tweeter and the Monkey Man is also fire!
Glad you enjoyed! I can’t wait for next Thursday! He’s been so much fun to cover.
Right over your shoulder is one of the greatest high-energy live rock albums ever: The J. Geils Band "Full House". You should do "Whammer Jammer/Hard Driving Man" from that lp.
