FOIA the body cams of all officers on scene including others Scottie had contact with before this incident who may have waived him through. At most major events the athletes are escorted into the venue by the local police and if this wasn't the case that's a major failure of both the PGA and local police. They do this at every college & pro sports event. Every driver at the Miami GP F1 race 2 weeks ago was escorted by multiple police officers who were paid $80/hr overtime by F1. There's no reason for an officer to attach themselves to a car over a misunderstanding with the star of the show, the whole reason they are out there in the first place.
In the darkness of night, could it be reasonable to assume Schefler couldn't tell that scene and police presence were because of accident and not PGA-related?
Scheffler was told to stop. HE refused to stop. That is whyt he cfop attached himself to the car. Being the "star of the show" doesn't give him a frees pass to disregard an officer's command.

@@ChristopherLoupe-hh6bj I think y’all are missing the point a bit here. My comment was a critique on the media’s willingness to sensationalize a story. The difference between saying 10 yards and then 20 yards is ridiculous given the context of dragging a person who’s hanging onto your car. If you say ten yards, it can be understood as an oopsie. When you say 20 yards, now it puts the driver’s intent into serious question. So why even state a distance? Especially if, as you guys have pointed out, you are unable to be factual in stating the actual distance? Well because that’s what the media does to get clicks. This situation was a unique opportunity to see in real time how the espn guy’s original statement via his memo recorded basically right after it happened and how it evolved from each new iteration of the story by all of the various media outlets reporting on it.
Another bullying arrogant cop. My cousin is a cop and one of the best people I know. But there are way too many like Detective Gillis, who should not be allowed to wear a badge or carry a gun.
I live in Minneapolis; a few years ago an Australian woman was gunned down by a dumb as rocks Somali cop who killed her from inside the cop car. Shot her in the guts. Her crime? Approaching a cop car with her lingerie on. The idiot cops “ panicked” at the sight of her and killed her. In a beautiful neighborhood with million dollar houses a block or two away.
"He's going to jail, and there aint nothin you can do about it". These are the individuals who are enforcing the law. Scary. Wonder if he has another lens to view situations... like an accurate one.
Someone was just killed by a vehicle, he was in a vehicle and did not follow police instructions. Why does a golfer deserve preferential treatment while police are conducting a death investigation? It's the South and police are usually a certain way there.
@jiggyv6139 I don’t know if you have followed this at all, but you are probably going to be highly disappointed if you think that’s what’s about to happen.
Felony??? For what, going over the median and not stopping in a very gloomy rainy weather when the cop was attaching his hand on the vehicle and probably tapping on it too, in which he stopped after 20 ft????????? This is the same situation when you get pulled over on the road and the cop says, "why didn't you immediately stop? What took you so long???" When in reality, you were just trying find a safe place to stop or a lighted area (preferably with surveillance such as a gas station. Never pull over in a dark area where there is no lighting).
@@PianoUniversewhen did Darlington say he got dragged? He said the guy latched on to the side of the car. It’s the police saying that officer was “dragged and injured”. Scheffler was in the wrong. Seems like a pretty good guy, but I don't buy that he didn't realize he was being ordered by a police officer, or at least security.
Exactly. They said players and media can go thru then there's a bus in the meaning you have to go around but genius cop jumps on car that clearly reads PGA PLAYER on it for a " I didn't want you to go that way I wanted you to go that way"
He broke the law. Marked vehicle gives you a pass? No way. It is a terrible situation but maybe just waiting a few minutes may have been a good idea for Scottie.
Yeah that was dumb. It's dumb when they do it for a drug dealer trying to escape its unbelievably dumb for a guy you TOLD to go through but he went a different way than you wanted him to
Think what he’s trying to say without saying; he didn’t know it was a cop, he probably thought it was a fan or media or something. If he knew it was a cop, he would have stopped, cause he thought it was something or someone else he wasn’t stopping for them
Well now we have the other footage and learn that none of the officer's story nor this reporters is backed up. The officer wasn't dragged, didn't do any of the things he claimed happened. Bogus reporting and bogus police report.
So the cops are so incompetent that they can't even direct traffic. And then they want to put felony charges on somebody to cover their in competence. Sounds about right.
@TheOnlyCoop And what’s your interpretation? Scottie Sheffler just decided to break the law all of a sudden out of the blue? Have you seen video of that?

Sounds like Scheffler felt entitled to keep driving even though there was a cop attached to his car. 15 to 20 yards????? At the site of a pedestrian fatality accident??? Flashing Police Lights & Officers in Bright Yellow Reflective Jackets controlling traffic. Doesn't matter if the car was marked PGA of America. There was a fatality at the scene. He should've been asking the officers for clarification.
At 15 mph,. a car travels 15 yards in 2 seconds. How long does it take to realize that a jackass has jumped on your car and bring your car to a stop? At 15 mph, a car travels 7 yards to come to a stop -- so to travel the 8 other yards takes 1 second. SO Scheffler had 1 second to realize someone had suddenly jumped on the passenger side of his car in the dark and rain before hitting the brakes. WOW -- what a criminal
But if you didn’t realize he was a police officer because he already passed the accident in the scene. Somebody starts beating on your window on the side of the road at night and you don’t know exactly if it’s an officer or not you’re just gonna stop and comply that’s when you get carjack.

It depends where your at and who it is, I think. After watching a TON of body cam footage on UA-cam, you start to feel more sympathy for cops. But you ain’t wrong in some areas.
Your comment is idiotic. A pedestrian was killed this morning near the course. Jeff Darlington just gave the police more evidence on national tv without even realizing it. He witnessed the police hanging off his car for not 15-20 feet but 20 YARDS. Somehow in the darkness and rain Scheffler who was close enough to drag the officer didn’t know it was an officer but Darlington in this same situation in a different car knew that it was Scheffler from his car through the rain and darkness.

P.S. A maintenance worker died. A wealthy athlete can’t stop?😢😢😢😢😢😢
Love how the news is the golfer instead of the dead person. 😒
It's a sport network not CNN or FOX
STEVEN A asking did they know who it was as it should make a difference.
