When it comes to sensitive skin and Azelaic Acid the introduction phase, application and tolerance is very nuanced, similar to using Tretinoin. Sensitive skin requires the user to go low and slow with AzA. Try using a lower strength (my skin can’t tolerate 15% but is okay with 10%), introduce gradually (ie. Monday, Wednesday, Friday or just once or twice a week), use a smaller quantity, use only once a day (very resilient skin can tolerate it twice a day), buffer with a moisturizer first, apply to dry skin as it slows down absorption (Facetheory advises theirs to be applied to damp skin while other brands don’t) and lastly, best not to layer any other actives in the same routine. Some mild tingling, flaking and pinkness is to be expected initially but burning, redness with lots or irritation is a sign to back down or discontinue all together. If it eventually resolves then it’s safe to increase frequency and quantity or just stay put. Always be mindful of your skin barrier. Less is more when introducing an active.
I tried The Ordinary and it really tore my face up. I bet it took a good 3 weeks to get back to normal. I used a very small amount two nights in a row without any other serums just my Vanicream facial moisturizer.
@@sarah24145 AzA may not be appropriate for extremely sensitive skin no matter how low the percentage or how gradual the introduction phase. No actives should be used on a broken skin barrier. Has anyone used this product and couldn’t deal with the tingling, redness the next day, and irritation and dryness? Holy smokes, my cheekbones look so flushed because of this stuff! And after using it a couple of times I ruined my skin barrier badly. More dryness, more acne, so fun! I know not to use it too often, but after quitting it for a few weeks and putting it on my face last night I couldn’t deal with how it felt and washed it off. Anyone got beyond these side effects maybe? I am feeling like I want to quit using it alltogether! But my adult hormonal acne wants to be able to use azelaic acid so bad.
Maybe it's too high? I get irritation if I use a product that has 15% or more for the first time/after not using it for a while, but with a lower percentage like 4 or 10, it still works without the irritation.
When it comes to sensitive skin and Azelaic Acid the introduction phase, application and tolerance is very nuanced, similar to using Tretinoin. Sensitive skin requires the user to go low and slow. Try using a lower strength (my skin can’t tolerate 15% but is okay with 10%), introduce gradually (ie. Monday, Wednesday, Friday or just once or twice a week), use a smaller quantity initially, use only once a day (very resilient skin can tolerate it twice a day), buffer with a moisturizer first, apply to dry skin as it slows down absorption (Facetheory advises theirs to be applied to damp skin while other brands don’t) and lastly, best not to layer any other actives in the same routine. Some mild tingling, flaking and pinkness is to be expected initially but burning, redness with lots or irritation is a sign to back down or discontinue. If it eventually resolves then it’s safe to increase frequency and quantity. Always be mindful of your skin barrier. Less is more when introducing an active.
Why do i always use the wrong pea size :")
Never use this on damp skin....make sure your skin is dry.
May i know why?
@@rukmiandamarie7046 It can irritate your skin. The product is already tingly on the skin, so it's best to leave it in the fridge and apply on dry skin.
Can I use this with benzoyl peroxide?
I tried azelaic acid for a month all it did was make my skin extremely dry and give me un even red blotches. I had to give up on it. It was to strong for me even when I diluted it or put it over moisturizer. I shouldn't have even used it that long but I made the mistake of listening to all these people say it's good for sensitive skin which it is definitely not. It's for normal oily skin and I found out the hard way.
Dr Dray, I'm thinking about using the azelaic acid, do I risk to lose my freckles?
@drdray does azaleic acid cause purging? Every time I use it (5-10% strength) I get under the skin bumps that never seen to resolve. Is this a reaction or sensitivity or purging? Thank you!!
Hi Dray, thank you so much for your all your videos i learn a lot about the skin, i really appericiate. I have a question to ask if you could please answer, what natural vitamin C can we use for under eyes skin wrinkles ? or natural Vitaminc C mask for wjole face skin? i saw some videos about orange power, orange peel powder, orange coconut oil etc. is these are beneficial or they dont do the job at all. Thanks
Is it safe around the eyes if tolerated to lighted that skin also
Dr . Dray , how many sunscreen do you have , can you make a video on it
Does it make skin more photosensitive? Could it be used while undergoing laser hair removal?
Do we need to wash our face? And if so, what type of face wash? Ex, salicylic acid wash…
You use this after washing your face, before moisturizer, before SPF. You have to find a cleanser that suits your needs i.e. for acne, hydration etc.
@@kw7814 but do we need to wash our face?? I only wash my face at night because I have extremely dry skin.
If you're using it in the morning and have cleansed the night before, you shouldn't have to unless you want to.
@@mrs.jackson. is it because of a damaged skin barrier? regardless you should probably start using a hydrating cleanser and focus on hydration in your skincare routine.
@@db-gb5xi thank you!! 😘
I have been given an SK-II essence as a gift recently. Would you recommend that I finish using my bottle of azelaic acid first and then start using the essence? Or, may I use them together? If yes, what is the sequence of applying them?
Cab you use Azeliac acid after using a benzoyl peroxide cleanser?
It should be fine but just pay attention if you experience any irritation.
do you moisturize your eyes without washing them before?? i ask because of the azlaic acid, wonder if there are leftover on the hands. i always wash in between
Would you use this before or after a vitamin c serum?
Can u use azelaic acid continuously?
Like every day for a year or longer?
Some people tell me that you can do it for 3 month max
Would you recommend using a retinoid the next night if you have sensitive skin.. I have pretty sensitive so I’m wanting to try skin cycling. My exfoliation will be azelaic acid and my retinol will be adapelene
Dr. Dray, how do you compare Adelaide acid and Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate?
Safe in pregnancy….?
Is that really a pea sized amount? I go way less. Like the tip of an eraser is pea sized to me.
Can I combine it with a Salicylic acid cleanser?
How will you going to determine if yo have an oily sensitive skin? I hope this question will be notice🥺
For hyperpigmentation, would you recommend azelaic acid or tranexamic acid?
Azelaic acid best. U can combined both of this fr best result..
Can you combine a vit c cream with this combination at all?
