These big trees are actualy from Canada. The first mayer of Subotica brought them here. Becouse Subotica was a huge swamp in the past, and those trees need a lot of water. So they dried the land with their roots.

Most of the trees that were brought over (if even true that it happened) died out. Back in 2018 the last few remaining trees simply fell out of the ground and were replaced. I think only one street in centre have old trees and those are maybe WW2 era trees, not old as one thinks.
Subotica was bombed in WW2 by both USA and naci Germany and is lucky that many building were not hit especially the churches and city hall. However damage been done due to vibrations. Took lots of years to repair it and there is constant work on these buildings even today to keep it shape.

Art nouveau in Serbia is called Secession architecture, and it is characteristic of parts of the country under Austro-Hungarian rule.
57 km southwest of Subotica is Sombor, the city with the most greenery in Serbia, also an architectural paradise(West Bačka district)
Vojvodina has very bad drinking water, so our ancestors used to drink light wine instead of water, that's why the wines are beautiful.

    • @minmogrovingstrongandhealthy
      @minmogrovingstrongandhealthy 10 місяців тому +1

The bad water wasn't always the case, also depends of the locations, people had the technology to dig quite deep and make wells with great clean water. Vojvodina was known for lots of oil well pumps too for the same reason. There was a water supply structure built through the city basically every street had one water wheel pump tap for clean water while people at home had regular wells for live stock and basic needs.
Subotica today have the cleanest water around, because the main water supply is quite deep and the pressure is more then enough. Usually people who didn't use main tap and were scattered outside of the city are the ones who had weird water and those are the ones who actually made vine too. One of my relatives when was inprisoned in WW1 by nazis and took to Italy, he said the place he was located at was beautiful nature but they had to drink vine because the water was so bad and he missed the water from home which is Subotica again... Tells you that Subotica and many other places actually had far better water systems then even "fancy-pants" Italy.
Austro-hungary have nothing to do with the buildings nor style, this city was built before Austro-Hungary even existed. When you look at the old architexture in the entire Subotica district region not just city it 50% looks old-Slavic style (Serbian) and 50% is common style of the communist era. Since more then half of this city was bombed and burnt in WW1 and WW2 alone. These old styles I found all over Russia and Europe who bothered to preserve some village buildings as a culture settings. All predate Hungary or any Germanic people.
The church in the centre of the city (I forgot what is the religion) use to be a tiny part of a Serbian castle, at one point hugnarians burnt and bombed it and what remained of one tower became a church. I think it is called today simply Brotherhood Church. People in surrounding old houses found secret passways to underground which furter proves the point this use to be a huge castle area. Plenty of these buildings were simply renovated built upon or rebuilt and each ruling kinda took credit for themselves. But this place obviously existed before and wasn't simply a swamp ...

I have a lot of respect and love for travel vloggers like you.
Precisely because of the fact that you post much more places from Serbia than just Belgrade.
    like most travel vloggers do.
They often only go to capitals and or popular cities of certain countries.
and then think they know the entire culture of a country.
Also because of the fact that you are respectful towards the locals.
and you don't act overly hyped positive.
    That said,
hopefully you can stay in Serbia long enough to explore and vlog about all of Serbia..
Not just about the big / populated part of Serbia..
    But also the countryside,
    the nature reserves
    Which there are.
    and or our sacred places.
You would be surprised that there are many more than what you thought.
Some of which are even more than 500 years old.
    (if not even older.)
Have a nice trip enjoy what you will see and experience in Serbia and take care of each other.
The last but certainly not least
    Stay safe.

The architecture in Subotica and Novi Sad is different because Subotica is mostly built in the style called Art Nouveau (Secesija in Serbian), while Novi Sad is mostly built in the Baroque style. There are more Art Nouveau buildings in other parts of Serbia, including Belgrade (for example, one building and a house that belonged to one of our important scientists and mathematicians on Kosančić's Venac), but Subotica is the only city in Serbia that has most buildings in this style. The Subotica Synagogue has a unique architecture, a mixture of Hungarian Art Nouveau and Serbo-Byzantine style (which is especially visible in the shape of the building and the roof).

Haha, I love those green plums, we call it dzenerika (gen-erica) - cool sour green early in summer, and it becomes mushy sweet yellow in autumn, but never grows bigger. They are great for jams and for kids - as it's rather a wild tree.
As kids (70's-80's), we used to have full pocket of those green plums, grab (today it would be called stealing) few corns from some field around, blackberries and such stuff just grew along dusty roads. In those days Palic lake was a big swimming pool, pedal boats and boats, etc and fishing (without license, ofc). Basically, you'd go out of home early in morning and come back when it gets dark, and if mom asks you "are you hungry", you would usually say just "noZzzz....".
But times had changed - Palic lake is now very toxic, therefore no more swimming, boats and no fish in there. And watch out for hordes of armed migrants trying hard to reach EU and are stuck in Subotica region, even locals don't go out much of safe city center these days.

These "Art Nouveau" cities look really like they're out of a fairy tale. Subotica is really famous for this. In Romania the most well-known example of such cities is Oradea. But there in Oradea, just when you were about to film a whole bunch of buildings featuring the finest expression of the Art Nouveau style, Ivana was blessed with "good luck" by some bird.
Still one can see several of these buildings in that clip. The Black Eagle Palace hotel or that blue-ciel Moskovits Palace and a few others
Timișoara also features a lot of buildings that feature a "branch" of the Art Nouveau style, called Secession. You were able to spot some of those buildings and film them, even in your first stay in Timișoara, back in 2021.
The fruits Ivana picked from the tree were "cherry plums" ("corcodușă" or "zarzără" in Romanian). They were not yet riped - in this stage they are used to sour the ciorbas. They can turn yellow or red when riped and taste close to a plum.

And you can also find Art nouveau, Art deco etc buildings in Novi Sad, so it is not one style. Both places have various styles in different proportions

Subotica je novi naziv grada od 1920. posle upada srpske vojske 1918. I dodele Subotice kraljevini SHS trijanonskim sporazumom 1920.

If you want of me to tell you which country is our the best neigborough, it is Romania.
Ok, serbian part of Bosnia is abs abs no 1., but if we do not count Republica Srpska, Romania and Romanians are our the best friends in region. Also Macedonians, Serbs from MOntenegro... Younger people in Croatia also like us.

Subotica - Szabadka was Hungary's. many great Hungarian poets and writers were born there. Half of the population is STILL HUNGARIAN.

Hungarians are a minority, Specifically less then 20% of Subotica population.
Hungarians were around 50% under nazi Austro-Hungary rule AFTER Hungarians slaughtered bunch of Serbs and Jews ... and the same was repeated in WW2.
So I wouldn't be so proud and spread bunch of nonsense as you do ... Hungarians are lucky to even stay considering the facts.

Vojvodina, Northern Serbia was a part of Hungary in the past. There are many hungarians still living there and the architecture is more hungarian im not sure 100%. The hungarian fish chorba, soup you ordered is the spiciest food in europe, when done correctly. But people dont make it so spicy in restaurants, only locals make it that spicy at home.

The style have nothing to do with Hungary or Austria, if you really want to know the truth, anything else if nazi Hungary didn't invaded Serbia it would have far more buildings then today in this style and many others. This city was built by Serbs and Jews which you know what Hungarians did to them ... This style is present more in Russia too then Hungary or Austria EVER ... It's Slavic predates all of the both Austia and Hungary so as many others.

I highly recommend you guys visit Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are some amazing waterfalls and a small beach in Neum. Also the cities of Mostar and Sarajevo are a bucket list.
Hope you can get a chance to visit since it is so close to Serbia! Enjoy!
