      Good luck on your journey. It’s the hardest sport to do. But the skills you learn in wrestling is valuable for real life. It’s what separates boys from men (same for girls and women). Wrestlers have this mutual respect for each other because only they know what they had to go through to compete (the weight cutting, the cardio, strength training, countless drills and reps, not to mention the literal battle with another human trying to rip your head off). Just focus on getting better and getting the fundamental moves down. It’s a young man’s sport because it’s brutal on the body. You most likely won’t be able to do it ever again in a few years.

    I’ve been following you for a couple years. You’re always very inspiring. I didn’t wrestle in high school, but have totally turned into a “wrestling dad”. My boy started wrestling as first grader also. He has always been decent, usually wrestling for 3 and 4 at tournaments, but not bringing home any hardware until his 7th grade year when he placed at every tournament we went to. He wrestled jr high and then was invited to practice with the high school team. His growth has been incredible. Wrestling may be an individual sport, but it takes a village. Especially for youth wrestlers, win or lose that support needs to be there. Seeing his confidence (a bit cocky at times) grow after last season has been so great. Keep doing what you’re doing!

    Point 2 is such a great thing for young wrestlers to understand. If you have one leg shot that you can do correctly every single time, almost no one will stop your takedowns. If you can bridge properly, almost no one can pin you. If you have one turn combination that you've drilled over and over, it's going to work on almost everyone. You don't have to get fancy.
    I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times. -Bruce Lee

    My goal since I first started wrestling my freshmen year, was to get on my school podium, I wanted to go to states, I wasn’t sure if I could do it since I lack so much experience compared to others but my Junior year I qualified however didn’t place and guess what didn’t realize my goal. I wanted to be known for something or at least recognized. I’ve lost a lot of motivation throughout the years, I’ve lost to freshmen in high school as a junior and that’s been a huge blow to my mentality. I’m now a senior in high school, and now I’m looking back on my mistakes. I’m watching my old videos and I’m realizing while even watching my current matches.
    I always feel compared myself to people I knew where good, TJ Daughtery, RBY, Spencer Lee. I always wanted to be like then and I always compared myself to them. These are the mistakes I recognized.
    1.) Comparing yourself to someone, it’s always good to set someone above you THAT YOU WANT TO surpass, someone you want to surpass. However you’re your own wrestler, so wrestle how you want to wrestle. Don’t try and copy someone just cause they found success in it.
    2.) Take care of your body, just cause you won one match you think it changed anything? No you still have to work hard, you body is important, don’t pig out. Have discipline.
    3.) For the love of god, it is okay to be nervous, even if it’s a national champion, it’s okay to be nervous, to me it puts me on the edge, someone who beat me in the past my Junior year I am going against at counties, I’m nervous, of course, however I’m mentally prepared, I’m watching my old videos on hudl noticing what I can do different and his habits and I’m confident I can win if not I can sure as hell give him a run for his money. However these are just things I’ve found, I wouldn’t recommend listening to me to much since again I’m not the most experience but always keep these 3 things in mind, nice video man.
    Edit: Notice how all 3 of these things have one thing in common, mentality.

    Hi Cayden. Very interesting video, thanks a lot. I’ve been interested in wrestling since a was a child, maybe when I was 13. I loved watching wrestling matches on tv. I’m now 41, and I am still a wrestling fan. When I was a young boy I wasn’t so sporty, except I played football with my friends. And there weren’t any wrestling schools. Wrestling was only considered as a dangerous American sport, only available on tv. I know here in Italy now there are some wrestling schools, but is it possible at my age? I’d like to start a very beginners’ course. You’re right: the most important things are having fun and doing physical activity, it’s not important to win or become a champion. What I liked the most watching the matches on tv was: thinking that this type of sport is a very difficult and hard one; during tag team matches I appreciated a lot the fact that two wrestlers are together, maybe friends, and are fighting, collaborating for reaching a goal (winning the match and defeating their opponents). In my opinion, wrestling is the most complete sport, for real men!

      try to put on a couple more pounds of muscle and then cut to 120. if you practice in sweats the night before weigh ins it should be no problem to lose 3-4 lbs of water

      If you aren't chubby for 120-125lbs maintain your weight, and if you are just eat a little bit less until you get to your weight goal, it's gonna take some time.
      I skipped lunch at school before one of my wrestling tournaments in the past and I felt tired the whole time even though I just went down to 138 after I used to be at a plump 145lbs at 5ft. 3in.

      @@beb2880 feel free to add some weight in fat, muscle or both.
      At 110 lbs your right in underweight territory and at 121 you're probably at a barely healthy weight.
      By B.M.I Standards you should be around 121-159 lbs at 5ft 7in.
      If you plan to add some muscle you can expect to gain 1-10 lbs of lean muscle mass per year if you do it right. You gain more during your first 1 or 2 years (newbie gains) and you gain like 1-5 or even less once you get to the more advanced stages of your lifting/exercise journey.

    • @nuarbed
      @nuarbed Місяць тому +1

      If you really want to prepare for the toughness of the practices, do some conditioning work before you sign up for the team. A lot of the toughness of wrestling is being tired during matches, so building up your conditioning will knock out half of the battle. And hey maybe even your coach will see you take initiative and put you on varsity!

      @@nuarbed what should I do for conditioning? I am weak so I am considering starting to lift again

    • @nuarbed
      @nuarbed Місяць тому +1

      @@AnReisVERYsigma Definitely lift and do sprint work. Sprinting is really good for wrestling because it most closely coorelates with the matches (for matches you're going full effort for about 6 minutes or less).
      There are many ways to train sprinting, but one I like is to sprint on the sidewalk and when i reach a lightpole i start sprinting until i reach the next lightpole, and then lightly jog after that. Do this every 2-4 lightpoles depending on your comfortability level. This really helps with your stamina. Lifting definitely helps with wrestling as well.
      (Also for lifting, incorporate plyometrics into your workouts, because they help with agility needed for wrestling)
      good luck
