@@georgehatzimanolakis1904it is actually because when you jump you gotta land in a certain position just like gym so thats why i think
@Cat.714 it is or you think it is. I just don't think it's that big of a deal because your right knee thrust makes you land with thst foot in front. The left foot lands behind it with little effort. It's a relatively natural movement. I actually have more issues swinging my right leg over and kinda cheat my uppercut by the back leg being at an easier angle when I step

Remember that one from being 14 going going for my grading. One of my favourite Kata's
i never realised how similar this kata is to the pinan godan from shito ryu
they're almost 1:1 (which tbf makes sense since karate styles are an invention rather then actually different paths)

ITF taekwondo practitioner here. That same jump and landing is in the Toi-Gye pattern, along with the low block with back fist. Of course, the actual pattern has a lot of techniques different, with a focus on low blocks, thrusts, and stance changes.

I'm a white and black for wado ryu karate and this is recommended from my sensai darren reynolds I have been more interested in karate then I was before now

Looks good. One way to improve is to relax the upper body more. Having tension in the upper body makes a person slower and use more energy. Use maximum focus with the whole body. The body and arm need to focus at the same time then completely relax in order to move quickly with the next technique.
I looove this KATA when i do it i feel that i have black belt but i know that i only have rn the blue belt😅

Ok im purple one but i know im not good enough to be correcting a black belt but i dont think the jump should be that high right? Because you dont have footing so someone can easily kick or strike you once your in the air
For heian godan the jump is more vertical than horizontal since you’re either avoiding an attack or preparing for one but apart from bunkai since it is kata it can also be for demonstrative purposes to show (and teach) a Karatekas agility, balance, control etc. But always check in with your sensei or senpai since different dojos have different teaching styles plus I doubt they’d be unwilling to help.

Karate is a multi-purpose martial art, which is better than being exclusive combat sport (in my opinion). What the sensei is showing here is a kata, which is part of the demonstration of fighting tactics that may be used during the combat aspect of it or self defense. At the very least, it's an exercise that is twice as effective as Yoga in terms of the meditation and relaxation aspects.
FYI: I can't speak for Muay Thai, but I can speak for BJJ. I did BJJ and Karate and I can tell you that BJJ is practically useless in any other fighting scenario that isn't 1 vs.1. BJJ's lack of striking is a clear hole that needs to be filled by taking a striking martial art, unlike JJJ and combat Sambo.
For the Sensei: It was a very excellent and useful demonstration of the kata. I hope to get there someday as a current yellow belt. I'm still trying to master the Heidan Nidan.

@@sebastiansuarezcruz while pleasing to the eye (and it is flowing motion) this isn't a form of self defense. Mui Thai is an integral part of my life for over 2 decades (training and competing) and even it isn't ideal for a non 1v1 fight. the best form of defense is always light feet.
@@zurhilik Ok, I respect your opinion. I just try to view it from a perspective in which all martial arts have their benefits and flaws. The best we can do as martial arts students is to try to push its benefits to the limit while also compensating in its flaws (via training another type of martial art). I also agree that having cardiorrespitory resistance and a fast reaction time helps a lot in situations in which more than one person is involved in a fight, in addition to being a good negotiator that is capable of de-escalating the situation.

You are supposed to yell "kiai!" while in the air, when you have pulled back both hands to hikite.
you're not supposed to yell "kiai" you yell anything at all....
yelling "kiai" would mostly be the equivalent to yelling "SCREAM!" which is kinda ridiculous.
Also, Heian Godan has many different variations in many different Shotokan Schools.
most of them do a Kizame Tsuki before the first kiai instead of the simple preparation done here, the ending varies heavily from school to school and also the exact kiai timing for the jump.... for which the most common timing is actually on landing like done here.
