I joined a JKA dojo today. Thanks to Kuro Obi world for inspiring me to finally start training. I loved everything about it, the techniques, Kihon, Kumite, bunkai were all great fun.
PingwinB We learned about Kime and power, how every move in kata has to be done quick like in a fight. The sensei was explaining to us how you can’t be slow, this is what I’ve wanted for so long. Saying I finished training with a smile is an understatement.
Out of curiosity was it that old school impractical traditional JKA bunkai or more modern practical bunkai like what Jesse Enkamp and Iain Abernethy teach?
@@barrettokarate JKA is everything about the basics, not the bunkai. About using the hips in almost, if not all, every movement, sinking your body to the ground so you won't be pushed back when defending or even when attacking, contracting and relaxing your muscles at the right time for power and speed, efficiency in movements, and so on. TBH, I really don't like Jesse's channel, too many bunkai, not enough basics. His viewers will try out those bunkai to some random thugs without any proper training and they potentially can get hurt, worst case scenario, get killed. Believe me I too once was hungry for bunkai and searched everywhere for it, but I stopped after my JKA sensei showed me the real priority in karate, it is the basics. No basics, no karate, the japanese always say that
You're assuming they know who each competitor is. I can only name two of them and only because they've been the "queens" of JKA kata for the past several years.
I don't know about that. If you look at the WKF world championship gold winners alone since 1980 its a pretty mixed plate up until 2006. The all time winning male kata performers are tied at 3 world titles with 2 shotokan and 2 ryuei-ryu stylists. For the women, a shotokan and goju-ryu stylist are tied with 4 world titles each (followed by a shito-ryu stylist with 3). This isn't even a complete list. I'm missing some of the male and female teams. I've also not listed the silver and bronze medalists. I think the belief that shotokan does do well at the advance stage comes from the fact that there hasn't been a male shotokan gold medalist since 2008 and female gold medalist since 2006. Its been basically shito-ryu and ryuei-ryu for the men and shito-ryu for the women. Teams a little more mixed. 1980 - Keji Okada (?), Suzuko Okamura (goju-kai), 1982 - Masashi Koyama (?), Mie Nakayama (shito-ryu) 1984 - Tsuguo Sakamoto (ryuei-ryu), Mie Nakayama (shito-ryu) 1986 - Tsuguo Sakamoto (ryuei-ryu), Mie Nakayama (shito-ryu) 1988 - Tsuguo Sakamoto (ryuei-ryu), Yuki Mimura (shotokan) 1990 - Tomoyuki Aihara (?), Yuki Mimura (shotokan) 1992 - Luis Maria Sanz (shotokan), Yuki Mimura (shotokan) 1994 - Michael Milon (shotokan), Hisami Yokoyama (shito-ryu) 1996 - Michael Milon (shotokan), Yuki Mimura (shotokan) 1998 - Ryoki Abe (goju-ryu), Atsuko Wakai (goju-ryu) 2000 - Michael Milon (shotokan), Atsuko Wakai (goju-ryu), Women's Team Kata (shotokan) 2002 - Takashi Katada (shito-ryu), Atsuko Wakai (goju-ryu), Women's Team Kata (shotokan) 2004 - Luca Valdesi (shotokan), Atsuko Wakai (goju-ryu), Men's Team Kata (shotokan) 2006 - Luca Valdesi (shotokan), Sara Battaglia (shotokan), Men's Team Kata (shotokan), Women's Team Kata (shotokan) 2008 - Luca Valdesi (shotokan), Hoang Ngan Nguyen (shito-ryu), Men's Team Kata (shotokan) 2010 - Antonio Diaz (shito-ryu), Yohana Sanchez (shito-ryu), Men's Team Kata (shotokan), Women's Team Kata (shito-ryu) 2012 - Antonio Diaz (shito-ryu), Rika Usami (shito-ryu), Men's Team Kata (shotokan), Women's Team Kata (goju-ryu) 2014 - Ryo Kiyuna (ryuei-ryu), Kiyou Shimizu (shito-ryu), Men's Team Kata (shito-ryu), Women's Team Kata (shotokan) 2016 - Ryo Kiyuna (ryuei-ryu), Kiyou Shimizu (shito-ryu), Men's Team Kata (shito-ryu/ryuei-ryu), Women's Team Kata (shito-ryu) 2018 - Ryo Kiyuna (ryuei-ryu), Sandra Sanchez (shito-ryu), Men's Team Kata (shito-ryu/ryuei-ryu), Women's Team Kata (shotokan)

Karate "Heian" Kata Collection in All Japan Tournament
いいなあ〜!力強さと美しさに溢れている。
はじめに習う平安形だけど、全国レベルの選手だと、こうもカッコ良くなるのか…
This is beautiful.
Japanese are so dedicated to their Karate :)
Karate was introduced to Japan, not native to Japan.

Ayano and Miki are the best

Great.

Great. Better if the name of each karateka if presented at the begining of the kata.

In the opening rounds of Kata (Heian) Shotokan will often get the edge. Shitoryu / Gojuryu get the edge in the more advanced Kata in my opinion
