20 years ago I had a sapphire cossie, I used it as my daily, even used it for Chinese deliveries twice a week for a while. Bought for under 2k sold it after 4 years for 3k became a track car and got crashed 😢😢 amazing how they’ve went up . If you can keep yours and don’t be scared to use it 👌👍

      @greyguy.960 Рік тому +1

Yeah, I sold mine for 7k which was good in the 98 as it had a tiny crash and a bit of rust but kept my xr2 instead lol.
What a mistake. Oh well, I had the experience of ownership.
Being from that generation if I kept all my toys star wars, computer consoles, and cars, I would be a very rich man but we never do, as at the time they are mostly worthless.

I was very lucky to drive a brandnew RS500 back in 87/88 as my brother purchased it for £20k new, I’ve always said to me that is the best car ever built and just look at how much these awesome machine of a vehicle are going for, Congratulations to the person whom purchased this beautiful RS500 for nearly £600k WOW 🤩, anyhow as a example if I was a millionaire and that particular RS500 cosworth with only 5k on the clock I would of literally bidded upto £1M to own it.. Paul as you said in the very near future we will see the 1st £1M RS500 Cosworth “ They don’t build cars like this no more 😢 “ Legendary Motor “

Buy what you want and enjoy what you buy its that simple, the high prices Fast Fords are getting these day can only help the enthusiasm of the used 80's and 90's car markets. Everyone who owns a car of this vintage can only thank people who are prepared to shell out this kind of money. Thanks for a great video.

Brilliant interview and article. I agree entirely with Paul. I remember that slating you got years ago for saying what you said about the 500’s. I had a conversation with my good friend Billy Thomson (Sunderland) and we agreed with you then. I’ve had my 3dr for about 17yrs now. I use it and drive it about a thousand mile a year and enjoy it loads. It’s a brilliant thing to see peoples reactions when they see it and only last summer I let a bloke and his young son sit in it and enjoy it whilst out for a drive. I think it’s a privilege to own one and we should let people see them and love them as well. Billy introduced me to Paul many years ago and we’ve said Hi in passing at many a show. We’re not mates but we both have a passion for the Cosworth and that’s the whole point. It’s our choice and it’s better than wasting money on drugs etc etc. it will be very interesting to see what this does to the market for all Cosworth overall. Mine is insured for £60k and if it was £600k I’d still drive it in nice sunny days all year. If I’d had the money I’d have bought it. 👍👍

Cheers. Exactly right. As the saying goes. Life is life. Just try to enjoy it, work hard and don’t begrudge people that have stuff you ain’t got. I bought this car off Cockney Tony from Sunderland who you know. He was turning it into a show car but got bored so I was lucky enough to get a decent one and I’ve cherished it ever since but also used it. Yes it got little marks and ain’t perfect but it’s a fantastic talking point and something that I want to share with anyone who wants to look at it. Simple and easy approach I think

Of course Paul's in favour of it. It means they rocket up in value to another level.
I don't doubt this one has been bought by a genuine collector but because the bench mark has been set il guarantee rich folk will be snapping all the "cheap" 100/150k ones up purely with no interest in the car other than seeing pound signs down the line. That's not good for the RS500 / Cosworth scene.

Hi Adam and Paul, great conversation as usual. What an amazing situation, I never dreamed of seeing a Cozzie at over half a million pounds, PDI checking them, servicing and repairing them back in the 80's when they were in the £20K's they seemed expensive. Good luck to the guy who bought it, (of course I'm jealous) lol, very shrewd investment, and raised the whole bar eh.!! Let's watch the market with interest, BTW I now agree with your predicted £1,000,000 Cozzie in the future. Alex.

Hello Adam and Paul. Great video, makes my heart sink a bit as I sold mine around 23 years ago, circumstances change and I had to sell it. If I had kept it I had nowhere to keep it so there is no point crying. I did see it for sale 12/13 years ago, it would have been and probably still is a well know car in the RS World, the price then was £25k. If ever I get the money, I want a Moonstone RS500. Congrats to whoever bought the car, might be the same person who bought Di's car, either way, the legend lives on.

Unlucky because I sold it !, now later in life I had a 996 Cabrio living in Spain, now thats when I was frightened to leave it just anywhere, every 3rd car in Spain had damage of one kind or another, not a nice feeling when you are aware it could get damaged almost anywhere, thats the Luck I had in the time I owned the Cossie, absolutely never thought about possible problems, used it loved it ! Love the vids and especially the ones with Paul but I would say, you aren’t necessarily a “hater” just because you don’t see the value in something.
Let’s face it, it is a stupid amount of money for an old Ford, as lovely as they are.
But the buyer must be happy, as will be the seller, so it’s none of my business.
As a car though I’d walk straight past one for any number of cars at that price point. But, it hasn’t been bought as a car, it has been bought as an investment.
    To each their own.
This notion though, that anyone who doesn’t agree is a hater or jealous, isn’t correct.

bottom line is that you pay what you think something is worth, and if you bought a cossie for a couple of grand in the 90's you were laughing
i paid £8k for my 3 door way way back in 93 and i got a £9k payout when i wrote off my saph so my time has been and gone, so now you've got all these folks out there who think they know what cars should be worth, you buy these sorts of vehicles with your heart, not your head

A sensible conversation over a crazy price... Absolutely congrats to seller, buyer and auction house. I hope the car continues to give much pleasure to its owners for many years. I also agree with the sentiments in this discussion. I only have an MG Metro and I wouldn't part with it either, life changing amounts of money excepted lol

It's funny how much conversation this subject is making. I work in construction and random people at work are saying did you see what that sierra made at auction and that's from people who are not even interested in old ford's I suppose that the social media for you word soon spreads.

Have always been curious about what happened to mine. It was a rather special version having bought it almost new through Aston Martin dealership in Houghton-Le-Spring. Tickford had replaced the silver RS500 body stripes and boot decals with red ones. The wheels were changed to those from the RS200 and they reupholstered the interior in grey leather with red piping. It was also given a slight boost in power to around 280 bhp if my memory serves me right after all those years. The Aston Martin dealership wanted to add an AM badge but the manufacturer refused. I have to say the turbo lag spoiled the car for me and much preferred my Sierra Cosworth

Every car in some way given time be worth something equal or more than it was new, iconic cars more so and the fact is if the car flicks a switch in someone what's the problem. My grandad purchased his first house for the couple hundred quid, same thing really, its worth what someone will pay, you watch when internal combustion is banned and see a whole load of cars climb into silly money, I just wish I had kept some I have owned that at the time wernt worth much but had to be sold to fund another.
Fair play to the buyer, love it, sit and look at it, enjoy the admiring glances on passing.

I watched that auction, one person may have bought the car but he wasn’t the only one bidding it went to the price it did because these cars are in demand, just one question, what is the one thing that makes that car so expensive?

Great video. Me and my son were at race retro for Saturday and Sunday since we only live 30 minutes away that's why we went for the whole weekend. We went into the viewing area alongside the auction room to have a look, but we missed the RS500 being sold as we wanted to watch the live rally stage. I have to say that my son and I agree that our opinion is that it was brought by a considerably rich person whose more interested in a future investment than an actual enthusiast. It will sit in a car storage bubble until the price goes up ( million as mentioned, maybe even more?) then it goes back to the auction, it'll never get seen at show not even as a trailer queen. But as also mentioned that's their choice as it's now their car.

I said to people years ago prob earl to mid 00s that Cossies may hit collectable status. Just like the muscle cars of 60s did hitting half a million quid 15 years ago. Mustang Boss 429s were Homologated and prices are mad for them. RS500S are now on same status.
I think we will see a million quid cossie at some point

I personally feel that was a total one off, two stupidly rich people who were in a bidding war with each other and neither would back down to loose face. Happens from time to time in the classic car world, for that money you would want it to be a white or moonstone one for the rarity.

Thing is guys the people from this generation that worship these cars don’t go on forever..they all die off & the next generation they don’t mean anything to & prices inevitably collapse…old brass cars aren’t worth what they used to be..why..because the enthusiasts are all dead…saying that what an amazing price 👍
