They also forgot to mention (as always) the very exciting draw he had early in his career against Nicholas Dalby in Dalby's first UFC run. It's always stuck out to me; the UFC were pushing Till only for him to get demolished in the 3rd round after winning the first two decidedly. It showed big cracks in his game and wasn't a good look for him. Worse still when they then chose to continue to push him harder in the aftermath, while they simultaneously did nothing with Dalby, despite him proving he was at the very least on the same level as Till on a technical level. Well that's the UFC I guess...
I think there are two kinds of pushing being done. One is the UFC just being obsessed with a fighter who has already cemented his legendary status and continuing to give them fights despite theme having done nothing to deserve them, like McGregor or BJ. The other, which is a completely different situation in my opinion, is when talented up-and-comers are pushed too fast for their own good, like Darren Till. These could really be two separate lists.
McGregor is only legendary from hype and revenue. Biggest name he beat had been out from injury, was past his prime, and had had months of having to deal with a massive media machine designed to give McGregor the edge.

I think Sean O'Malley should have made the list. Before he got ranked his hype was all warranted and well earned, but then he made it into the rankings by beating unranked Raulian Paiva. From then effectively made a NC bout after a round of nothing with an eye poke in the second against Pedro Munhoz count as if it was a dominant win. After that he got a crack at #1 Petr Yan and won via questionable split decision in a fight that, while definitely proved he does have the level to compete at the top of the division, was also a fight that he definitely lost and the judges got wrong. Now he's getting a title shot he hasn't earned after sitting out almost a year on that non-win, just on the back of his popularity over more deserving challengers like Sandhagen, or Chito before Sandhagen beat him.
I think it could go deeper. The UFC makes more money when fighters showcase their personalities, tell stories, and try to entertain the fans. The constant delusion of people in MMA media who pretend pure sport is the main draw is tiring.

I feel there's a Trump angle (Dana is friends with Trump, Colby loves Trump and Trump loves people that love him) to Covington's push as he never pushes the needle in terms of PPV.
I can see that. Everyone thinks people "love to hate" Colby, but really he's the kind of cringe that makes you want to change the channel. With that in mind, the only reason I can see him really getting a push is for Colby's political hijinks and a certain MMA-loving former President of the same ilk.

@@joonygee Sure, that was for the second fight against Usman, with tons of hype built up for it. But Usman vs Masvidal 2 did the roughly the same numbers (and has a common denominator that isn't Colby). Jan vs Israel did 800K. Recently Volk vs Yair did 850K.
