    One of the best fielders in ML history.
    He couldn’t hit ML pitching but was a regular because of his glove play -
    One of the very few players who achieved that. ✌️

    The 1999 Mets set three major league records: fewest errors by a team (68) fewest unearned runs given up (20) and fewest errors by a starting infield (33) and Ordonez was a big part of that.

      @@axelagosto5196 and they could hit the ball back then too. But hit more for average than power. Now they hit more home runs, but look at their averages. So many SS and 2nd basemen hovering around .200. And since they're so much bulkier now they're less agile and less range on defense. So they basically don't try to improve their defense every year. They just suck enough on defense until their position is changed. Or they just DH

      @Shinobi33 He is a mediocre batter and his base percentage was bad,the problem is when don't have a dh you basically have 2 easy outs in your line up .

      @@axelagosto5196 He was a light hitting SS. But I'd rather have a light hitting defensive wizard on my team than a slow, plunking range less SS with 20+ HRs but he's hitting .188. That's baseball today. I'll the 90s ⚾ over today's game any day.

    Can someone explain to me why in the play starting at 1:30 the runner dives into home, and doesn’t simply step on the plate? There is no tag here, and no danger of overrunning the base. Almost nobody slides or dives into 1st base, so why do that on a force play at home?

    • @willshad
      @willshad 4 місяці тому

      1) The catcher's foot was blocking part of the plate
      2) Maybe he thought he could get there a split second faster by diving
      3) Maybe he tripped a bit and started to fall and just went with it.
