As testament to From Software's vision, when I first picked up Dark Souls I kept telling my wife how it reminded me so much of playing King's Field as a kid. How surprised I was to find out why that was the case!
So thankful for Soulsborne series...as a 40+ year old gamer I had almost given up. Games were almost universally on recruit difficulty. Those hard fought victories are what life is all about. I don't even play other games anymore.
This is very well made, nice work. You even listed all your sources in the description! Your comment asking for corrections is also an honorable approach to content creation. I'm playing Dark Souls remastered for the first time (also my first souls game) and this video has all sorts of info on the other games in the franchise that I had never heard of. If this is helpful at all, I found this video in the "liked videos" playlist on VaatiVidya's channel.
Was linked to this from the Dark Souls 3 subreddit. Interesting video. As one of the longer-lived fans of the mentioned Armored Core series, it would be interesting to see something similar for the oft neglected mechs. AC has never really been a known name in the west (mostly because zero of the publishers that took the series in the west gave it the time of day), and it's very often ignored, or unknown, by most. A few of the AC community members have tried to do a 'History of' thing, but they were usually half-hearted, underinformed, and not a one of them ever actually finished... Would be nice to see someone else pick up, where everyone else gave up. Otherwise, good information on this video. A few tidbits that I hadn't actually been aware of, so kudos.
+Gripheenix Hey thanks! I actually started researching Armored Core a bit but ended up not putting it in the final script for this to keep more focused and for the sake of time. May add it in in a expansion pack for this episode!
That would be cool to see, man. I'll keep an eye out for that. (Just be warned, though. The AC community, as small as it is, is more ravenous (punny joke!) and elitist than just about any community outside of those associated with E-Sports...)
+Gripheenix Haha well I'll keep that in mind! I've had experience with fandoms jumping on me for a mistake (Stardew Valley) so I'll make sure I'm on my a-game if I do it.
+Sephyrias That I could find out actually. His degree was in Social Sciences and his background was account manager. Odd leap. There may have been some intervening positions in there. Takeuchi mentioned that everyone where's multiple hats at From Software. So he may have been pulling double duty doing other things.
That is a good question! I’ll have to go back and check to see if I still have the files. They would have been from a royalty free site; but I can’t recall which I was using at the time.
Hey, everyone! I hope you enjoy the season one finale! Just a reminder, if you spot anything that is wrong in the video, please feel free to drop a note here with a source! Facts matter! Thanks!
Are you familiar with FromSoftware´s "EverGrace"? I can´t help but feel it gets short thrift whenever SoulsBorne predecessors are discussed because it was a flop, I think FromsSoftware tries to avoid talkign about it. I feel that alot of things in Demon´s souls were actually a refinement of Ever grace gameplay(e.g.:Equipment-focused progression, Adding a lock-on button to the orbit camera), married to the theme and thone of King´s Field and shadow tower.
I can't help but feel there's more to the story, and more to Miyazaki Kun. It just seems strange that he showed up out of the blue and created the deeply esoteric masterpiece that is Dark Souls. If not him, then someone else involved must have been a part of some erudite tradition.
Thank you! I'll probably be announcing the games I'm covering for Season 2 of this series in the next couple weeks. In the meantime I'll be rolling out some shorter form game industry essays and content.
Dood I'm soo blown away I love this video I love game documentarys like this soo much I've always bin fascinated with gaming and I love knowing the ins and out of development of the games I sink soo much of my free time in especially to help get us thrue the tuff times in life and help us all destress and oprisheat som of the smaller things in life life can be vary tuff at times but we atleest have grate content like this to destress and lern new things and also lern to oprisheat the devs more and realize the people making theas games are humans like us and when a game ends up being bad 9times out of ten its the publishers being greedy and por maningment from the top class of set company's and we can all relate in the work force with shity management we all have story's of company's we work for being cheap on are pay or helth care if you live in the us or forcing crunch and unhealthy working conditions etc soo long story short I just oneted to say thanx soo much for all your vids just came across you Today and binged like 10vides including the pinball vide and meny more soo thanx for being a total badass and stay healthy and safe bro love ya you rock;)🤘🤙
Thanks so much! I just did a shorter video on the first Sonic The Hedgehog, and will be releasing one of similar length next week on Sonic 2 and 3. But I've been considering doing some short and sweet bits on newer series and single games.
As a long time AC fan who still has plays the og ps 1 game as of writing this I would love to see from software implement the elements they were able to refine in the souls games and make a new mecha game. I loved gundam IBO but so far the half assed nature of gundam breaker has been hurting the series. A gundam game with souls like system set in the calamity war days of the IBO world would be cool to see. From Software did have some history with making gundam or mecha anime games like the ACE series. Or maybe just let them take charge of an action horror survival style berserk game....
It's crazy watching the pre-rendered cinematics for the 2009 version of Demon's Souls, and realizing that the PS5 remake has better *real time, in game* graphics than those old cutscenes
I LOVE Fromsoft games! Despite how utterly brutal they can be. I used to play the Tenchu games all the time till I mastered them. The Souls series and sub genre are probably one of my most favorite games ever made. And great video!
Didn't the original director of ds2 get pulled out of the position at last second and the guy who replaced him said it was kind of a mess and he did what he could to make it into what it is today.
14:55 That was the best thing that could ever happen to FromSoftware, the best game they have ever created in their history Bloodborne the best game in all of gaming history nothing will ever come close to it except for maybe EldenRing but after I saw the boring old style dark souls gameplay ….I am not sure about that 🤷🏻 however I believe Velvet will dethrone Bloodborne from its top position 🤷🏻♂️
I’ve definitely been considering it. Had timing worked out better I would have done one for Shadow if Colossus remaster. But still they are definitely on the list!
As testament to From Software's vision, when I first picked up Dark Souls I kept telling my wife how it reminded me so much of playing King's Field as a kid. How surprised I was to find out why that was the case!
I can see a lot of hard work went into the video. Won't mean much from a random person online, but good job.
Balive me your comments mean more than you know it helps monavate them to continue especially thruew the tuff times

This was a really good video, man. Thank you so much for making it!
Thanks for watching!
Mossbag?
Probabily my favourite game series ever, thanks for making this video
+juneauz Thank you for watching!

Hey thanks! That’s actually awesome to hear it was Vaatis channel, never knew that!
I gotta say these are probably some of the nicest videos I’ve found, absolutely astonished you don’t have more subs with the quality of your content
Thanks so much!

You put out a lot of quality content, man.
Thank you! Hoping I can get my next video done this weekend! (Day job has been busy.)
Love your videos dude! I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers
Thanks man! I'm working on it ;)
6:05 I wonder how that happened. A man without videogame creation or programming experience immidiately becomes director?
+Sephyrias That I could find out actually. His degree was in Social Sciences and his background was account manager. Odd leap. There may have been some intervening positions in there.
Takeuchi mentioned that everyone where's multiple hats at From Software. So he may have been pulling double duty doing other things.
The sound mixing with your voice and the amazing background ost is fantastic!
Thank you!
Great work on the video. I was actually loving the music all the way through - would you mind sharing where it's from?
That is a good question! I’ll have to go back and check to see if I still have the files. They would have been from a royalty free site; but I can’t recall which I was using at the time.
@@Arcadology Thanks a mill! I’ll understand if it’s too much to ask :)

*Playstation 4 Neo was renamed Playstation 4 Pro - must have missed the memo.

all that stuff is present in kings field and shadow tower ...
Beautiful video! Great job.
Great video, I thoroughly enjoyed this. I'll have to go back and check out your other work. But thank you and great job on this
+DaVideo Thanks so much!
Thank you for making this video. Excellent.
Absolutely love this Origin of series. So friggin good.
Thanks so much!
Great work. Love the series.
Thanks so much!
I still have kings field 2..bought it at a used game store in 2001 and did not know what i was getting into
Yeah! I would actually be interested if they remastered the early ones. They definitely have that proto-Dark Souls flavor.
Very good summary of the history of these amazing games :) great job!
Thank you so much!
Great video, deserves more views
Amazing video! You earned yourself a sub, and deserve more
Thanks for the sub!
@@Arcadology No problem man! You deserve it!
Great video man keep it up!
+Irving Arce Thank you!
Awesome video
Incredible video. thanks
+James J Thanks for watching!

Very nice vid. Keep going, please!

Spoiler Kevin Cool. I dropped a sub
+FinneousPJ1 Thanks!
really helpfull and intresting, thanks :)
Good stuff man! You need to use that picture of Miyazaki in the bathing suit next time...
+Scanlines Oh my. That is a tremendous oversight on my part!
+Scanlines And thank you!
Deepest greatest series ever!!
Came here from Slopes. Great video, dude! That's an insta-sub from me.
+allluckyseven Aw Thanks so much! Working on new content right now.

Seeing PC version of king's field instead of original PS1 games was kinda jarring, but overall - really great video
+Nuprahtor Thanks! Had trouble getting my hands on the original Kings Field so I used what I could.

Here before 100,000k views
+JerryHasGame Haha I wish. Thanks for commenting.
Ps4pro doesn't put us into 5th gen PS. We still in 4th.
Bloodborne is their most successful game to date.
Fuckin' made me buy a PS4 just to get it haha
I think Dark Souls 3 is now
Same here haha
But what does "FROM" stand for???
Fun! Really? Or Maybe?
Cant wait for elden ring
I'm the 50th like! Lucky Like!!
Aww, thanks!
Felt bad to be the 667th like xD
You broke it! 😂
Naotoshi Jin was the better president and game director for From Software before Hidetaka Miyazaki ruined the company with Dark Souls.
