  • On Sunday May 19th, NJT's Central Railroad of New Jersey (CNJ) heritage engine #4109 made an appearance on the Morristown and Erie Railway for the celebration of the CNJ's 175th Anniversary at the Whippany Railway Museum. The 4109 was sent here by NJT to be put on display while the M&E ran excursion trains between the museum in Whippany and their locomotive shops in Morristown. At 10:30, the M&E crew would bring the 4109 to Whippany along with ME 24 for the excursion trains, one of two recently acquired GP15-1's by the Morristown & Erie. I was expecting the 4109 to trail to Whippany, but much to my surprise it led the short trip over to the museum, and was even briefly used to drill out museum equipment before being set out for display. The excursion train consisted of four cabooses in the paint schemes of various now defunct railroads, a CNJ Blue Comet coach, and a former Delaware, Lackawanna & Western EMU coach. Although I only stuck around to chase one excursion trip, I was able to squeeze in a few different shots of the train. Enjoy!
