- An HONEST discussion on what the BEST BEGINNER MOTORCYCLE really is...
G'day I'm Kwackajack and one of the most frequently asked questions I get here on the channel is 'what is the best starter bike?'. And today, we are going to definitively answer that age old question, once and for all.

Well I'm a bit biased I will say ninja 400 it's a fantastic bike,I've had my one for 3 years now,no complaints at all
I have the Ninja 400, it’s light, good acceleration and as u mentioned relatively cheap to buy. The best advice I can think is go have a look at the different bikes and just sit on them. You will find one that feels just right for you that you just feel a part of, get that one
Nice vlog!
I'm a 60 yo rider and recently purchased 2022 z400. Can't go wrong. Best power to weight ratio , nimble and no fuss . Great instrumentation.
Each to his/her own but two thumbs up from me.
I've owned larger bikes and this is by far the most fun.
Thanks again for the content.
Absolute beginner here, also short at 5'5. Want a CMX500 for the comfort, ease of highway cruising and bad ass looks. Walked into the bike shop, a bike "called" out to me and now, at age 44, I'm the proud owner of a brand new...... Kawasaki Ninja 400!
Very helpful and honest vid. Thanks!
👏 nice video. I'm finally getting my bike licence. So this video really helped. I think I'm leaning towards the Yamaha r3. I thought you looked familiar. Good to see your doing well since Allianz
I'm fairly new to the motorcycling world. Started riding last year and started on a Z125. When I got my license, I was looking for something bigger and stumbled on a used Ninja 650 and went for it. I absolutely love that bike. It's not really a sport bike but it looks very good, has good ergonomics and the engine has more than enough power for what I currently need.
Maybe I get something bigger in the future, who knows.. :)
I would really suggest that anyone test rides the 4 different categories first, before choosing one. If you are not confident on the bike you pick, then you probably won't ride it. People who are less confident are likely better off with a naked (if the sport bike is you goal) or a cruiser (if the ADV is your goal). Sport bikes and ADV's often ride higher, so when you come to a stop you might not feel planted if you are shorter stature and that is going to mess with your ability to gain confidence.
First bike on re-entry, Honda Rebel 250. It was within my purchase range, more than forgiving, and insurance was cheap (Full coverage for 1 year was $ 450). Admittedly, it was underpowered, but it was a mini tank and parts were cheap. I bought it with the knowledge I would be upgrading. Used it to overcome some bad habits acquired during my 37 yr riding hiatus.
Only regret - not keeping it as a grocery getter, urban runabout when I upgraded to My RE int 650. 8:16
I'm very glad to have started on a ninja 300, at the time it was the perfect learning tool. If I were to start today as a 26 year old I'd probably gravitate towards something more in the middle cc class. I'm personally very for the appreciation in increase of power when moving up a class.
After 3.5 years on my r6 and 636 they still sometimes surprise my with their insane speed and acceleration, don't see myself moving to anything bigger to be honest.
Welp, I got an R1. Smoking deal and more commuting made it somewhat make sense.
Well done.
I've been tossing up between an R3, Ninja 400 or a CBR500. going for my Learners this weekend so i've been really looking hard for what fits well for me, I did want to get the RC 390 but it's too tall for me, being 5'5 I can't see myself enjoying my time when stopped on that thing. Just been annoying that quite literally every bike i've had saved on bike sales has sold this week. so i'm back on the hunt for the perfect bike at the right price in hopes that it'd still be available when I'm ready to purchase.
Hey Im right there with you. I will have to sayt...as much as I love others , the Svartpilen 401 seems like a must first bike.
But...one has crept up onme that may be what I go with.
The Honda CBR500R. Let me tell you what even the experts on YT seem to have missed. The CB500R was totally created for people who want the cool look of a sports bike and good top speed. And thats it as far as sports bikes go.
It's on the heavy side so we dont feel like high winds are gonna blow us into another lane.
Its ergonomics/ rider position is so not sport bike but more upright. Its not geared like a sports bike with hyper acceleration.
So, the 401 has been my #1 but idk....the CB500R might be it.
Did you decide yet?
@@metaldreams3595 Hey there, Yeah I went and got myself the Ninja 400, It was of all the options I laid out the most comfortable, actually I lie. I rode a Vulcan S and fell in love, but it was a few grand out of my budget unfortunately. So my next best option was the Ninja, so far put 2500km's on it over the past 3 months and i've honestly loved every single minute of it. yeah my ass hurts after a long ride. but the lightweight design is incredible, it ducks and weaves at a moments notice and I never feel like I have to force the bike to do what I want.
once I found out that the Ninja was for me I went hunting for some second hand deals through dealerships, and the prices between secondhand and brand new were practically nil in difference, so I bought new! I hope you find the right bike for yourself my friend, happy hunting and happy riding!
i’m looking for my 1st bike to get within the next few years hopefully, and im so torn between the n400 and the r3. Both are so nice and both have such clear positives and negatives that i seriously can’t decide. Hopefully getting on one will help clear things up haha
rc 390 better than r3, ninja 400 better than rc 390. Or wait and get aprilla 457 (if you want something not so common).
I like the video. But what about the bmw 310gs. Or do you not have them in Australia. Just curious.
Hey, I'm from the gold coast and wondering to buy the 2024 zx6r, please make a video on the necessary gear to purchase and the best and cheap insurance. Thanks:)
Started on a Rebel 500, best bike to learn riding on, it's comfortable and easy to ride.
I'm surprised the Honda Grom is not on this list... i did my Ls on one.
I am a returning rider but never upgraded my licence so still on my RE licence, I just recently purchased a new Honda CBR 650R, it really is an awesome bike, going to get my unrestricted licence and derestrict the 650R. Queensland's bike licensing system is dumb, I've had my bike license for more than 20 years, it should upgrade automatically with having to go for another test
Please review CFMoto 450 and give your opinion compare to Ninja 400. What I don’t like about the big company that dominated the market is to take it granted and stop update and implement! Like ninja 400 had no update since 2018! While CFMoto shows us full LED lights, TFT dash and auto indicator with lower price!
I'm looking at getting first bike after getting license, however have experienced regular tennis elbow discomfort from years of cycling.. I am wondering what the Ninja and Yamaha are like for people with this condition.. Are you putting a lot of upper body weight straight onto handlbars? If so, then maybe a cruiser might be the go
What do you think about the new CFMOTO 450SR?
How does the ninja 400 and cmx 500 handle the NSW MOST test?
Next thing is buy new or buy used?
It was my neighbor buying an R3 that triggered me lol. Ended up buying a passion red ninja 400
Svartpilen 401 or the CBR500R....cant make upmy mind
How do I convince my girlfriend and my parents that a bike is not a bad idea?
just got my learners and bought a gxsr 1000
Are you still alive
If you ever need an R7 to ride for a video, you now have my number ;)
We all know the best beginners bike... 1986 Kawasaki Z250LTD 🎉
