      Unitas cruise and West Africa. Next year in the Mediterranean Spain, France, Egypt and North Arabian sea, as well as Diego Garcia.
      Not to mention the Golden Shellback and Blue nose North Atlantic above Scotland.

    Nathanael, thanks for sharing with us such an amazing bargain on an exotic trip! Circa minute 4:03, any ship that can accommodate over 5,000 passengers is NOT medium-sized. This is a mega-ship! I will offer these ranges as approximate useful classifications: 5,000+ to 7,500 = MEGA-ship; 4,000+ to 5,000 = very large; 3,000+ to 4,000 = large; 2,000+ to 3,000 = medium; 1,500+ to 2000 = small; 1,000+ to 1,500 = very small; 500+ to 1,000 = tiny; 200+ to 500 = super yacht.

    Hi Nate,
    We were on the same Royal Princess cruise as you (though Vancouver to Auckland). Great to see your video and perspective of the trip.
    We booked this cruise in advance and had a much smaller balcony cabin than you...We had the drink/gratuities/internet packages and paid over $15.000 for the cruise...Wow!
    Thanks for sharing your booking/savings tips. We are well cruised people, but maybe next time, we should be more cruise booking savvy like you 🤪
    Happy safe travels, JJ

      @jjones2065, yes, those extra charges for beverage packages, specialty dining, internet packages, and excursions can cost more than the cruise itself. That is why I never buy the packages. Just pay for what is absolutely essential and maybe a few excursions (well researched in advance) in countries that you have never visited. Postscript: if you research Loyalty Programmes, you will easily see which major cruiseline can give you these kinds of benefits at discounts and then complimentary. It pays to be loyal!

    $1k for a balcony cabin for 26 days, total score. The chances are the line needed a room for crew or entertainer, so move a paying guest to make room. Bora Bora is stunning. We love the Royal class, even when full they never seem crowded.

      More likely empty cabin was a opportunity to promote as Cruise line noticed he was not only a critic/utuber but a corporate shareholder and cabin upgrades can be common(but paid) and allows maintenence to do work otherwise not able to accomplish.

    Circa minute 15:54, you are correct to point out that other cruiselines such as Royal Caribbean charge much more than Princess Cruises's U.S.$7.50 per load of laundry. However, you should immediate add that loyal repeating guests (especially with Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruiseline) get a rising level of discounts on various items (e.g., internet, laundry, drinks, spa services, etc.). Ultimately, at the upper two levels of the Loyalty Programme, laundry-service is FREE, internet-service is FREE, 4 to 6 complimentary drinks per day, etc.

    Hi Nate, thanks for this comprehensive look at the highlights of your extended cruise. It is amazing to me that something so big and heavy can cruise on the Ocean for Thousands of miles. The inside of the ship reminds me so much of a fancy hotel or Casino. One thing you didn't mention is elevators on the ship to take to between all of the different levels. There must be quite a few Elevator banks to accommodate all of those people. Glad that you caught the water swaying in that pool on the rough sees as that shows the power of motion and water. Was the Gelato bar included in the price of the cruise? Gelato is usually more expensive than regular Ice-cream so that would be a nice perk. It is nice that you were able to stop along the way at different cities to get out and explore. The stops are worth a lot to as you are able to experience the different ports without having to pay extra to visit at another time. The arrival in Sydney was really special with all the beautiful lights, especially to lights surrounding the Opera House. Have a great Christmas season and wish you a Happy and Healthy 2024.

    Than for a very informative video. I've done two transpacific cruises. The only downside to booking super last minute is expensive airfare on the return trip. Airfare from Australia is already expensive in advance.

    We were on that cruise too! I remember you though I don’t think we met. We agree that Rob the naturalist was a highlight. We got on in Seattle (rather than Vancouver) and off in Auckland and saved over $1,000. The airfare to return from NZ rather than Sydney also saved us about $1,000. Overall, a great trip that we would happily do again.

    One of the very best videos i've seen in a really long time. I would love to do something like this, but couldn't afford a balcony unless it was a free upgrade. Also concerned with the sea sickness if you hit really rough waters. I recently did a 7 day cruise after having not cruised for 30 some years. And I wasn't sure about being out on the water for so long, but it was actually smooth water and very peaceful. Just not sure how I'd handle a storm at sea!

    At the end of this video, thanks for highlighting some tips for saving on cruise-costs. However, one thing that you did not discuss in detail is AIRFARES. This is one of the biggest risks for repositioning and transoceanic cruises. Yes, the per-day average cruisefare is amazingly low, but, for many people in the world, the airfares to and from such farflung embarkation/disembarkation ports could be as much as, or even more than, the cruisefare itself! So, if you have tips on reducing costs for NON-U.S. residents, please let us know.

    There are a lot fewer transpacific cruises this year as many lines are pulling ships out of Australia/New Zealand.
    There is a 21 day Southampton - Galveston cruise in October 2024 that works out to $53 pppd (fare + taxes and fees + grats -OBC) on the Regal Princess. Unfortunately, I get off a 31 day cruise in Honolulu that week.

    Good video. I would add one thing. Temper your expectations! Not all cruise lines are created equal. Just like hotels, there are cheap to luxury brands out there. If you go on a cheap one, don't expect that high end feel you would expect on a luxury one. This avoids potential disappointments. Do your research first!!! However, it has been my experience having cruised from 2nd tier to high end, that a cheap cruise line can add a small touch making things great while the luxury one that misses just one of its promises can almost ruin a cruise for you. Princess is, generally speaking, an "upper side of middle" brand similar to Celebrity.

      I agree! but usually the burnt part is on top. We have an Italian restaurant locally, Los Angeles that won't cut your pizza, won't allow parmesan on certain dishes, and no sauces for calamari. But they undercook the pizza. What a joke. I've told them if they're going to be authentic, there should be some parts burnt. But everything else is fantastic.

    We are flying over from the east coast of Canada, ( very expensive) and getting that ship in Sydney next spring ( and sailing about Australia then cruising over to South Africa, long time at sea, which we wanted) . It sounds like we should have tried flying out west, and getting the ship all the way over!! What a cruise at what a price! I went on a discounted cruise with Carnival short three day $300 for a balcony cabin solo, I requested on board credit and was denied. Im retiring hopefully at the end of this year and I will look into searching as you have along with a couple other Facebook pages, etc., that I follow. Also try to can get on Holland America’s standby cruises. No solo supplement on these you pay $49 for an inside and $79 for a balcony per day upfront. If you don’t get on the cruise, they refund. I do not believe you can use OBC on these sailings.

    Wow that’s amazing for the thousand dollars, we tried to book a flight from Canada to Venezuela which had to be a two-part flight and it was over $6000 and that’s just the flight alone

    • @natehovee
      @natehovee  5 місяців тому

      That's crazy expensive! I nailed a flight from the Philippines to the USA for just over $200 eight months ago.

    When you booked your cruise, did it inform you how and where to do your online immigration forms for NZ and OZ, and pay the mandatory entry fees you mentioned? Or did you already know you had to do that?

    • @natehovee
      @natehovee  11 місяців тому +2

      There were documents guiding passengers where to go for the immigration applications/forms. It can be easily overlooked, though, so I recommend always doing your own legwork to make sure there are no issues when entering countries by air or sea.

    Yet another great video, Nate! I recently took my first cruise (to Antarctica) and m considering another cruise experience. It was only a 12 day cruise but I’m curious if solo travel ever gets lonely for you? TIA!

      There are lots of solo travelers on most cruise ships now.

    This assumes no drinks, no gratuities, no wifi, no shore trips, no immigration fees, no laundry, no spec dining or water! ...its the bare bones fare which is never the final cost esp on Princess. And via tahiti which is insanely expensive. I will guess you and three frieds in a 4 berth is the only way to get that fare.

    Nate how do you get travel documents in time for sailing?

    • @natehovee
      @natehovee  5 місяців тому

      I completed the applications about a week in advance. One was approved within a few days, and the other was finally approved just hours before I boarded.

    What a great video. I've been on the Royal to Alaska. It's a nice ship. Also did the World Cruise with Princess on Island Princess, total circumnavigation. Was so great! QUESTION: I solo travel a lot - how did you get around the single supplement?

    Not sure I will take a cruise ship crossing the Atlantic or Pacific. I am crossing the Atlantic on the Queen Mary 2 next year which is an oceanliner that is made better than cruise ships.

    Don't believe the (FAS) Free At Sea offers stating free internet as it is only 150 minutes which is gone in a flash. The free drink pkg has you paying the taxes and fees for the original drink pkg which can be several hundred $. The length of the cruise matters too!

    My recent cruise to Mexico charges me and my father $20 per person per night by default. Was the tip included in $1000 price tag? It could be easily $520 just for the tip.
    Edit: I see that they charged $16 per day per person and you paid it with $250 onboard credit.

    Is this 26 days repositioning cruise as crowded as a typical, non-repositioning cruise? Or is it less crowded since many people do not have such a long vacation?

    • @natehovee
      @natehovee  11 місяців тому +2

      It was not at full capacity (probably 60-75% capacity throughout the voyage).
