I didn't notice that there weren't any love interactions untill you said it. But I now realise that I actually liked it how every character was themself without their "love obsession"
@@AndrewGrabowski Im really glad ashley ended up having such a popular role in voice acting because I felt like her character of maddie from the suite life was a little mistreated because I feel like brenda song's character got more focus than she did and also which character got to go to the sequel and which didn't but thats just me
This maybe an unpopular opinion but I like this movie more than Across the 2nd Dimension and Summer Belongs to You combined. Yeah I thought it was that good. There a few things I disagree with you on. Isabella's Character I felt was a breath of fresh air compared to the show. Plus I felt that unlike what she was trying to do in Summer Belongs to You, in CATU she knows what's at steak and will help Phineas get his sister back and that now's not the time for romance. Sure she could've interacted with Phineas a bit, but I actually like what we got. Plus her interactions with Doofenshmirtz makes up for it. Still the 2nd best part of the movie for me. As for the pacing in the 2nd Act, while I do think the pacing in the movie is an issue but not from the 2nd Act. The first act I feel was fast pace for me. Not bad in any way, but it was still paced very fast. However once we get to Feebla-Oot, I felt the pacing got so much better after the 1st act. The animation I have no quarrels with. To me they are unoticable and I actually like the thick outlines they try to do. It is different in the beginning I will admit an it does get better later on, but I had no issues with it. Finally, The fact that Phineas and Ferb had gas masks I didn't find a big deal. I remember the boys do stuff like this in the show and this was no surprise to me. XD also I didn't find that entire scene with the controlled crowd chasing the gang underwhelming like you did. But other than that, this was an interesting review. You did a good job reviewing the movie in terms of strengths and weaknesses and even though I do disagree with some of your complaints, it was still fair criticism regardless. Like I said before I love the movie more than you did. With Across the 2nd Dimension, while an amazing movie, I wasn't emotionally attached to it like a lot of people were. Candace Against the Universe however I did. Candace is my favorite character and seeing what this movie did for her character is done really well. Still great review. ^_^
Thank you for the kind comments!! I’m glad you loved the movie so much. To be clear, the desire for more romance/interpersonal relationships with Isabella is definitely a personal preference, and I don’t think it hindered the story they were trying to tell. I do really like that she had things to do outside of that. The only Isabella-related manner that I think actually affected the strength of the story was her arc with Doofenshmirtz falling a bit flat. But if you disagree that’s ok and I’m glad it worked for you! Candace is absolutely one of my favorite characters, too. I think we agree that this movie did a lot for her character, and it’s a big part of why I’m still a fan of the movie :)
I actually agree, I like all the changes mentioned in the movie. (I mean Isabella blushing a little would have been cute, but aside from this). Although I do agree that there are too many long jokes
I really agree with you on the stance of Isabella's character- I think it was really cool seeing this different, more empowered side of her. Obviously we've gotten that before, in episodes like Night of the Living Pharmacists and the two where the Fireside girls go on their own adventure, but she's always heavily tied to her crush on Phineas, even in those episodes. Originally, all she really was was the girl from across the street who had a massive crush on Phineas, and I think it's so cool that she's done a full 180 in the 13 years since the world was introduced to her, with her crush literally never being mentioned (Personally I also don't see an issue with Ferb and Vanessa being brushed over but I'm also not actually a big fan of the ship) once in the movie I loved the gas mask thing, honestly. It makes no sense, but the franchise has never been renowned for being realistic and always making complete sense. It had the same vibes as Perry just pulling out new spy equipment in different episodes of the show and then never using them again (e.g. the animal whistles in Raging Bully or the suitcase of different cheeses in The Fast and the Phineas), which is the kind of thing that would typically be viewed as just convenient for the plot, but since the show's done it so much it's become less of a plot convenience and more of just the way things in the universe work. Like, where does Perry keep his hat? No one knows, but he's definitely great at pulling it out from what must be the black hole that is the back of his fur I think it's really cool that Candace is your favorite character, because that definitely explains why it was your favorite special/movie. I adore CATU, but I do personally prefer ATSD, which is my favorite movie of all time. It's actually largely because my two favorite characters are Perry and Phineas, and I feel pretty comfortable saying that they're the two main characters of that movie, while Candace is obviously the MC of CATU. Tbh I probably love Perry to an unhealthy extent, but getting a movie with so much focus on him was everything I ever wanted- especially since a large focus of ATSD was the A-Plot characters and B-Plot characters colliding for the first time, something which, up until that point, was purely a dream in everyone's mind
So glad I watched this review. Very well paced and constructive. I loved the movie as well despite a few hiccups here and there, and I've recently been rewatching the show on Disney+. Very fun show even after all these years.
Honestly I really just enjoyed the movie. Usually I tend to be more critical and over analyze things but honestly it was just fun to see Phineas, Ferb and the gang back together again! Although I will admit, this has probably been the most self aware the series has ever been and I love it.
How does someone who makes a review as amazing and well edited as this only have just over 150 subscribers? This was easily my favorite review of the movie i've seen and it was great seeing someone pick up all the callbacks I noticed but haven't seen many people talking about. As for the movie itself, I made my own video on it (comparing it with across the second dimension) but I basically agreed with nearly every point you had (especially with how much emotional range Phineas and Candace had, I was sobbing when Candace pressed the button of the mug). My only real issue with the movie (outside of the inconsistent animation in act 1) has nothing to do with the actual content, but I was taken aback when Space Adventure which in the series was always shown to be a movie franchise that was a cross between Star Wars and Star Trek was suddenly an old cancelled tv show with only Star Trek influences (but it only bothered me because Nerds of a Feather is one of my favorite episodes). Out of curiosity, what editing software do you use?
Thanks so much for the kind words!! I have more subscribers on my other channel, NachozRuleCP, but I've only recently started really using this one so it's still small. But I'm glad you liked my review and hopefully my other Phineas and Ferb content :) I use Adobe Premiere Pro.
This is a very good, coprehensive review, and I agree with most of the points. I think the fact we didn't get almost any 'Evil' Doof unfortunately has more to do with the plot and structure than anything and would had made no sense to have in the movie. I like how the tone of the video stayed positive despite the deserved criticism at times. Keep up the good work, man!
Thanks so much! I’m glad that it still came across as positive, despite my criticisms, as I loved the movie overall. I agree, it definitely would have been a challenge to implement Evil Doof in a natural way. I only think that it’s possible because Summer Belongs to You demonstrated that Doof is capable of simultaneously having evil aspirations while also not opposing Phineas and Ferb. But that is admittedly more of a preference than an actual flaw with the movie
I love this movie Rating: 10/10 I agree that scene where Phineas and ferb are showing love foe Candace is heartwarming I also love the us against the universe song it so catchy
I strongly agree with what you had to say about Isabella's character. There was something about her totally characteristic interest in Phineas that felt intentionally avoided, especially since her flirtatious demeanor was so common and expected throughout the series. It feels as though Disney wanted any romantic notions removed to fit the "feminist 2.0" image. (Also seen with the lack of Ferb and Vanessa interaction) Being a big Phinabella fan, this greatly disappoints me. I kind of expected a movie to showcase EVERYTHING (or at least close to everything) that defined the show such as Phineas' and Isabella's friendship. I also really admired Isabella's cheerful, sweet, and easy going self from the series so I was disappointed to not really see her in the way I remembered. Here's hoping the series will continue or there will at least be another movie so we can see the development of their friendship as well as Ferb and Vanessa's friendship!
I’m not entirely sure if I interpret the lack of Phinabella as the push of feminism, only because Ferb/Vanessa interactions were also avoided and the gender roles are reversed in that scenario. And Isabella was always strong and independent, with or without Phineas. Her leadership skills didn’t replace her usual feelings for Phineas, they’re just now the only focus, as romance was stripped across the board. And that perplexes me.
@@AndrewGrabowski True, I just meant to say pushing feminism was just a possibility but I really have no way of knowing. I enjoyed seeing her as strong and independent, but I'm disappointed that not all sides of her character were displayed. Having both her friendship with Phineas be evident as well as showcasing leadership characteristics should certainly be doable. But hey, I like what we got. And I'm thankful for it!
Great review! I guess they could have made the animation from the beginning less "Flash-y". They worked with 3 great studios, all they had to do was arrange the scenes better for each studio. They probably had to do that because of COVID-19, which is a bummer, cause otherwise it would've received a lot more care on the animation department. Apart from that, I thought there was a lot of jokes that simply existed to fill a time space, making the pacing really weird. Like, Phineas and Ferb original stories used to be so energetic, so many things happening at once, you didn't need that awkward silence after a joke for it to be funny. I guess Candance Agianst the Universe would work a lot better as a special instead of a movie, after all.
Well in an interview with Dan Povenmire on the channel Phineas Flynn's Law/The 2nd Dimension, Dan mentioned that Bob Bowen, the director of CATU (who was also involved in MML but not in the original PnF show), absolutely adores those long, should-have-ended-way-sooner jokes, so I think it was less of an attempt to use up extra time and more of an attempt to just fit in jokes he found funny (obviously Dan found them funny, too, but we really didn't get many of them before Bob came on the scene in MML). I actually hadn't watched season two of MML before CATU came out, so there were a few minor stylistic choices in CATU that surprised me (for example drawn-out jokes), and I wished I had watched season two first, because watching it after CATU, I began to realize how much more gradual the shock would have been if I had just watched the season first. And MML (season two especially) definitely has more of those long jokes than the PnF show
This movie is far from perfect but is definitely a great time for series vets. The animation in particular is jarringly inconsistent, especially after having watched it twice. The first act is extremely fast paced, partly due to two cut songs and just having to set up a lot without much time to breathe, and the second act feels slow and doesn't even give everyone something to do. Though what this movie does right makes it totally worth it, the vocal tracks and score are both amazing, the animation in the third act is generally stellar, the references (weird al cameo) are on point, and the sibling dynamic between P, F, & C is amazing. This isn't quite vintage P&F, but like you said, the series has changed quite a lot, even just since the finale. I'm overall excited to see if the team follows this up with anything but satisfied if they don't.
Sorry it took me so long, I've been distracted by Recess, The Proud Family, Kim Possible, and Lilo & Stitch: The Series, but I've done it. I've watched every single episode of Phineas & Ferb for the first time on TV (my first time was on the internet with lackluster connection issues a few years ago). Yep, I can still conform it's a fun show after all these years. Its formulaic structure does overall prevent me from enjoying it on the exact same level as the other Disney cartoons I've watched, excluding The Proud Family, but it's still really close. The writing is still some of the strongest for something that's accessible to children. Before watching The Last day of Summer, I did give this film a rewatch. My thoughts haven't changed much, except I think I like it more than I initially did. Across the 2nd Dimension is more solid overall, but this one offers a more emotional experience that's hard to forget. If there are plans for more Phineas and Ferb content in the near future, I'm looking forward to it when that happens. Oh, last thing. Still my favourite review of the film overall. High quality content is so rare nowadays.
