Hi Matt, back when I was playing the way we were taught was inside out. We would stand arms length away from a wall and swing inside out without hitting the wall. If it was a curve, we were taught to step, pause, drop front shoulder and pull the shoulder back toward the catcher by turning the hips and then hit the ball inside out to the opposite field. Would this be a proper way to teach others how to hit inside out? My apologies for the lengthy comment. Thanks in advance!

I'm old and I don't think I've ever heard a coach articulate what "inside the ball" actually means so well. One question- what "cues" would you use for a kid in BP who is struggling with this? Stay back? Barrel position? Thank you.

Thanks! I would work on it outside of BP. In BP I let them hit. Then we would do drill work.

Thank you. Drill work of course! Why would anyone be able to fix a mechanics issue with a magic word? I should know better by now.

Hey Matt, when you played college and pro ball did the coaches just let you steal at will? Or did you only go when the sign was given.

I also watch where the knob of the bat is pointing at launch position. If it's pointing somewhere from behind the batter to the catcher, they're in a good starting position to turn the barrel. If the knob is pointing on the opposite side of the plate, it's a red flag that they're dragging it through the hitting zone.

I wish you were my coach during my active playing days. You explain the mechanics very well.

I understand the principle of getting into a good position to stay inside the ball. It is something I have recently discovered was missing from my swing. However, I can also see how dropping the back shoulder during the pivot could lead to a hitter developing a looping golf uppercut swing if a conscious effort is not made to keep the barrel level at a slight upward angle.

😂 thankfully those days are over and we don’t have to wear them in there anymore. That was a rough time doing videos!

I played baseball my entire life. I never truly understood “getting inside the ball” until now. I always mistook it to mean try to drive the ball oppo. I now see that staying inside the ball actually gives you the ability to adjust and hit to all fields. Good to know now that I’m an adult and don’t play organized ball anymore... 🤦‍♂️

@@AntonelliBaseball This may be off topic, but could you talk about the difference between MLB, and what you might know about the Dominican winter league, Japanese league, Korean league (top intl. leagues) etc. Basically how good are these international leagues compared to MLB and which one is the closest to the bigs? Could the best teams out of any of these leagues compete with some of the weaker MLB teams? Thanks for the great content and keep up the good work..
