Here’s a thought for your bricks situation….I’m sure they probably had a wood heater in there? Anyway, you could bust up the bricks, then cut and place a piece of plywood where the bricks were and put a rug over the plywood.
Put that dining room table on risers or a block of wood under each leg--get it up to 36 inches or counter height--your back will thank you

You have a charming studio, I have the exact Aussie Sewing Table as you do ...I use the pull out side for my serger and sometimes I set up a small wool mat and small iron on it when I'm piecing ...funny I also had a brick fireplace in my sewing room with a large platform but hubby took it out and it opened up more wall space ....Thanks for sharing

Thank you so much Melanie for the tour. I had been wanting a tour. I am the same way in my kitchen. No cooking in a dirty kitchen. I get anxious in clutter. My best friend is an art quilter and thrives in clutter. 😂🎉 We just love each other as we are and have fun if we quilt projects together. I would love to see you do a colorful vintage quilt as you seem to love vintage also. I call my style Grannie Chic. I bring the old into the new and it makes my heart happy and comforts me. Happy childhood thing. 😉 Hope the new year brings many blessings and fun projects together.
It is so cool to work with your hubby. My hubby and I worked together when he owned his lawn care business. Now we are both retired!😅

Hey Melanie, you could get a table and cut the legs down and place it over the platform of bricks. It will become a usful area and not a tripping hazard. Remove the wooden shelf and create a design wall above your table. Love your quilts and all designs!! oxStar @ StellaQuilts

Nice space, lots of room. I have the same sewing cabinet, but mine is by Horn not arrow, but they are exactly the same? I guess when the time is right for you to put your Bernina on a frame you won't want to leave the space! Thanks for sharing.
An idea for the brick area would be to cover it in wood flooring or pine boards.The pine would blend with the cutting area. Up the sides and across the top surface. It would still look like a stage but your feet and ankles would not get scratched by the rough brick. BTW, I love what you have done with it with the chaise lounge. It's the perfect piece for taking the eyes away from the brick to focus on the lovely pillows and throws on the chaise.
That's an interesting idea. I've thought of carpeting it too. The chaise on here is new, but so far I like how it looks.
Hi Melanie! Just came across your channel and love it. Thank you for the tour! Very cool 😎 Regarding your brick situation... definitely a wood stove hearth for sure and nothing short of a toe breaker. Two options to consider. Remove it which is very doable. You'll have to replace the surrounding tiles too of course but definitely a cost effective solution. Toes will be saved! 😂 Or you could always frame it in square or right to the wall where your computer is. Not the best solution by any means and would still have a step up. That said, framing it in to the wall would maintain floor space area, but also make it higher. So, again, not the best solution. I'd knock that thing out and tile it after. Great way to cover up that brick too would be to use it as a design wall or put your fabric storage in front of it after that toe breaker is gone. If you do take it out, best thing to do for dust control, tape poly from the ceiling down to make a tent. Cuts down on dust and covering everything up for sure. Cheers from BC Canada 🇨🇦

He could build a platform to cover the bricks and put the cutting table on it for increased height.
Then you would have the centre of the room with nothing to trip over 😊😊

Just stumbled across your video and watch because I love quilting studio tours. A suggestion for your husbands sore back cutting on the short table. Buy bed risers. You can get them at local do it yourself shops, Walmart or online. Prices vary. You can lift the table a little bit by putting the risers on upside down or a lot more by the normal way. Your table legs are chunky so you may need to make adjustments.

Take up that brick platform and put down LVP over the whole area. It’ll be easier on your feet, Knees and back too.

Thank you for the tour of your wonderful space! To solve the problem with the height of the old dining table for cutting, have you thought about adding bed risers? I used them with an old table in our basement that was used as a work table and it made all the difference ! 😊

Forgot to add, I heard about the fireplace hearth in your way, but did you know you can move the rolling cabinet further to the left and attach it to the fasteners on the door that swings open and locks into the top? I use that area to hold a small wool mat to press blocks as I go. I have the chair too and it’s a game changer.

Couldn't see if this was a repeat comment, but: For that raised hearth area, a quick fix would be to place a table over it and use the space underneath for storage (unless you want a "toe kick" area).
I've thought of that too. That's a good idea. I'd have to get a new table to make it work tho. Might be something I do in the future. :)
I am the same way, too much “stuff” stifles me. Are you the same with noise? I cannot take too much stimulus from crowds, people, etc. love your space.
Yes, with noise too! I'm okay in crowds, it's more like noisy roars around the house for me. 🤷🏻♀️

Yes, you can bust out the brick on the floor, get yourself a handyman… then level it with some tile, and cover it with a rug… and you’re good and happy… give yourself permission…

Love your space. Right now, I sew on the kitchen table and have to bring everything out - it has completely sucked the joy out of sewing for me. Hoping to change tthat soon.
I can't tell for sure from the camera angles, but are the bricks on top of the tiles? If so, flooring may not be an issue.
Thank you! And I hope you can find a dedicated space soon. We put the tile in, it was carpet before. The bricks are actually on top of a concrete slab, so that's kinda why we've been scared to dig them out.
I can't handle a bunch around. Unfortunately in Sep. I was forced into a house i didn't want to rent. All my sewing is in a 9 by 11 room with a 2 foot wide closet and no shelving like i has before. All my fabrics are in space saving bags. Every time i try to sew i have to dig through everything. Some of you will understand..i just cry and i can't get anythg done. Sigh.
I had the same type of closet prior to putting up the shelving. When things are organized it feels like a weight is lifted. Here's to hoping you get some shelves!

I keep all my stash in the drawers, but I don't think I have a lot of 2-3 yard cuts like that. Mine's mostly smaller pieces... I'm pretty sure the stickers are from JoAnn or something. I got them out of the scrapbooking section of one of the big hobby stores.
