- Makeena from America orders her own Hanko, a Japanese stamp used to sign documents. She was impressed by the craftsmen skills and really happy to get her own, unique Japanese stamp with her name on it.

Thank you for your comment. Yeah, he is a true master of his work!
I cried watching this. The dedication and care can be really seen in his work. I would love to visit and witness him in action.
If you ever come to Fukuoka, let us know. We can take you to the place and you can let him make your Inkan ^.^
Where is it in Fukuoka, to be exact? Thanks
That is extremely strange.
I was going through videos on hanko stamps and ran across yours this morning. It was a great video and the craftsmanship that the Japanese man did was amazing.
the artist was really amazing! It was beautiful to watch him work with so much skill and care. I'm speechless...

Oh, I hope he is still in business when I go to Japan! I didn't know you could use romaji!

Much respect to the maker.. suddenly I remember my grandfather.
ハンドメイドの判子って素敵ですね。

国に帰っても、大事に使うといいでしょうね。でも、使うことあるんやろかね。
I will be in Fukuoka in May. I would love to get a hanko. Do you have the name/address of this shop in English? Thank you.
Nevermind- I found it below
The owner can't speak English at all, so if you want a Hanko, but can't speak Japanese, you'd better go Donki Hote. They have Hanko vending machines:

The Donki Hote in Nakasu and close to Tenjin has one of these Hanko vending machines.
Came from reading Kaiji, damn I saw this in entertainmente media many times but didn't think it was a "thing", is it just a cultural thing to do at this point by the japanese or is it by any way more conveniant than a signature?
This is a culture in Japan and the Chinese region.
Not having a Smartphone means that I have to physically “Sign In” in Shops, Restaurants, Etc. to comply with Covid Regulations.
Previously this meant using a Pen (which hundreds have handled) on a Sheet of Paper (similarly handled).
I now carry a small self-inking Rubber Stamp for “Signing In” wherever I need to.
It prints My Name and Mobile Telephone Number, clearly and legibly.
Eliminates the need to handle the Pen entirely and reduces physical contact with the Paper to an absolute minimum.
Brilliantly I’m no longer afraid to “Sign In” when I’m Required too do so.
Get a smartphone.
How much?
Depends on what type of Inkan you would like. Cheap ones cost around 1000 yen
she is so cute
Can you please tell me the adress to this store?
Sure, here are the shop`s details:
熊谷印章店
〒812-0026 福岡県福岡市博多区上川端町5−114
Tel: 092-281-5202
If you can just buy them from a shop, how is that a signature? It seems so easy to fake. But then again, signatures in the west are kind of silly, too. They can change, with age, or be imitated. Maybe we should come up with a cryptographic way of signing or some kind of biometrics, like a fingerprint. But, perhaps that's too Orwellian for many.
Anyway, nice video!
Actually, there are several types of these seals. For example, you can Hanko (stamps) for official ones, which are crafted by hand like in the video. Every of these Hanko is unique. You can then register them at the city hall which makes them eligible to sign official documents like contracts.
But there are also factory made Hanko for common names. Although, they are not allowed to use for official use. I know it's kind of difficult to understand and even now after several years of living in Japan, I sometimes still don't get why they use this kind of Hanko, or why it is sometimes even okay to just sign. Anyways, thank you for watching our video.
