The two great masters have recorded a few albums together- late 1970s, if memory serves. All on vinyl, though possibly they may have been remastered to CD. This duet is on the "live" album, which was recorded in NY and Boston. I'm not sure the album can still be found in shops, but it is a must have for anyone who loves this kind of music. Superb performances by outstanding musicians.
A few corrections: their 2 studio albums (Together & Together Again) were recorded in '72 and '74. 'Live' was recorded in '79. All albums were initially released on CD with the same tracks and covers as the original LP's, although on 'Live' 'Oriental' was omitted, possibly because producing long CD's (>74 minutes) was a bit problematic in the early days of CD's.
I saw this on TV - '77 or was it '75? Either way, it was great then and great now. I had a cassette recorder balanced on a chair arm recording the whole thing [with familial interruptions etc....]. Incredible to see and hear it again - the cassette [wherever it is] has probably rotted away.
Absolutely beautiful....This video was point for me to play this pieces and found sheets. Very difficult in diminutions parts. Their changing in 1. guitar is ideal.
(continued) These releases are out of print and are replaced with new re-releases of Together and Together Again with material of Live as filler. However other tracks of 'Live' are now omitted on these re-releases, such as their splendid performance of Brahms' Theme and Variations (another track I uploaded). Oriental was included in this re-release, I used this to 'complete' my 'Live' CD: burning a 76,5 minute CD is of course no problem nowadays ;-)
Very good ! But the original lute duet (with for instance Julian Bream who recorded it) is even better ! Renaissance Lute is less powerful than Classical Guitar but with a good amplification in concert it is perfect. Julian Bream is still very interested in lute playing. I love both : they just are very different. I play Renaissance Lute & Classical Guitar. Great thanks !
5 stars , fantastico grande ispirazione, thank you for this video
Can't believe how much I love your playing together
the mixture of both these masters' distinct tones and phrasing makes this a great performance.
Two of the best, at their best. Excellent demonstration of precision playing.
Never performed better and this will remain!
Strongly agree with You
I wish someone would upload a HD version of the full program
Me too.... And more John Williams. This is frome some TV program.... 1975 circa...

Julian is very modest about their playing in interviews.
He said they are very different people and the differences helped the music.
