- What's going on everyone! I was able to get out with Jeff of Tight Lines Entertainment while I was back home in Ohio and he took me out for an awesome float down the Mad River in Ohio. We had a pretty epic day streamer fishing for Brown Trout and each got some great fish to hit our flies. I hope you enjoy the video and please go check out Jeff's episode from the day and subscribe to his channel!

Not planning on stopping anytime soon! I crushed some browns out here in CO and im stoked to post that one.
@@LifeOutdoors Ohk I’m am too 😁😁
🤘🏼
Dope!
Thank you!
Everywhere I’ve been able to find on the river has been way too thin for a big boat like that. Definitely good for wading. But fly fishing requires some whipping of the line for casting I see. All my spots seem way too full of trees and not very wide
I dont have a whole lot of experience with the Mad honestly but I think the further down in the system, the more water you will find and timing it up with a rise in flows will help!
Tried the Mad in a canoe once, too fast for me. I've fished that river from where there wasn't much of a river to very far south. Wading was my choice, did it all year, even during a snowstorm. Tight lines fellas. Moved to Florida in 99.
It’s definitely a fun river to fish! This was my first time floating it and it seemed pretty doable but we had a large craft. Hope Florida has been treating you well!
Just moved back to Ohio. You just answered my questions about getting a canoe
I’d suggest kayak over canoe but whatever works for you!
@@LifeOutdoors Thanks
Sure thing!
Nice at least you were out there fishing and enjoying life
Didn’t catch many but had a ton of eats and it was a beautiful day! 🙏🏼
Epic Video Man! this is the stuff I love! Best trout fisheries in my neck of the woods.
Appreciate that dude!! Love that fishery. Haven’t been back since this video
Ive never caught a trout that wasnt a steelhead, other than a few small ponds and lakes that get stocked with 12" fish once every spring and gets fished out in weeks there really isnt any trout to speak of around this section of northeast ohio (portage county, Kent area). This past year was only the second year targeting steelhead since i stopped doing it as a teenager in the mid-late 2000s. At the time i stopped i strickly fly fished but now i mostly use spinning or centerpin, but started tying jigs and flys, so ill probably get a reel for the old 8 weight and try to get fish on all 3 next year. I bought a blood run pinland which is only a 3 weight/ultralight. My new brother-in-law mentioned his family had property on the east branch of the chagrin which is all private and its absolutely insane what a difference the lack of pretty does. Not saying any trip where you land one isnt a success, even here, but the last half dozen trips probably averaged 7 or 8 fish with the only trip i got skunked being one of the first times there not knowing a certain section of the run that wasnt great with higher water level and lower visibility was actually the best run. Sorry for the life story, id just like to get any brown trout esp. 12-15" despite that size steelhead would be the smallest ive caught. Idk, something about a trout from a stream on a bait you tied is beautiful regardless of size. Plus unless you swing streamers (which ill never spend the money on a specific rod just to do it) we basically just indicator fish and id like to try in a more traditional way.
You can check the Ohio DFW for their trout stocking schedule as they do stock a ton in the ponds in your area! You are very lucky to have some private access out that way, thats coveted water and I'm sure the fishing is awesome when you get away from a ton of people. As for trout out of a stream, go give the Mad River a shot and if you've caught steelhead then you can definitely catch browns on the fly. Best of luck!
Nice!
Thank you!!
I'm in Dayton area, really want to trout fish, just trying to figure out where to go.
Most spots on the mad will fish! Google mad river fishing access and go explore some spots 👍🏼
What time of year was this?
Pretty sure it was late April! I turned this edit around pretty quick
what kind of line you use for those streamers... noobie here
I was fishing one of Jeff’s rods so I’m not positive exactly which line was on his but I have Orvis Type III sink line and Orvis Pro Depth Charge on my streamer rods 👍🏼
Hey Steve ~ On these setups we were using Rio streamer tip with a sink rate of 6 ~following that just a simple 4.5 piece of 15 lb fluorocarbon with a loop to loop connection to our loop knot as show in the video by us at TLE. You could get away with a shorter leader but the water was decently clear so we extend an extra foot or so to keep the fly line further from the banks. Follow Tight Lines Entertainment ... We will have more fly fishing content and tips throughout the seasons. ua-cam.com/video/B1oS8Epm--0/v-deo.html
Now there’s the details you needed Steve! Thanks Jeff 👌🏼
@@TightLinesEntertainment614 yes i will do tha! thanks. I only have floating line and some euro nymphing line, would the sinking nymphing line work for mad river streamers? keep getting skunked dry dropping in the mad. Looking to get my 1st trout.

The damn where your at at the beginning there's a little bit of trout in the rapids because I swim there all the time
Definitely full of trout in that area! I see lots of folks swimming there but it’s too cold for me lol
@@LifeOutdoorsif either of you see this reply. If u know the location maybe address of this dam. Would love this information
@@KodyTheOhioan I dont fish the area a whole lot but I wouldn't want to put the location out there too much as it's not my spot to share. I dont remember which one this was but do some google map searching and you should be able to find it. Thanks for watching!
What was that goose thinking? Not a good place for a nest.
Haha I know! Pretty sketchy spot there 😂
Don’t forget to wet your hands.
Always a good reminder
