I moved to US 5 months ago and got myself a 350z. I was so shocked to see that any mod I wanted to buy like plenum spacers, bigger throttle body, tune etc are all literally illegal in California. Such a party pooper state
all mods will say not for road use but we all use them regardles. they just really check in cali but if you go to the right shops they’ll pass you and just don’t make yourself a target to cops
currently live in Kansas and the state is SUPER SUPER chill about modified cars. The only downside about it is that there is absolutly nothing in Kansas, couple back roads but nothing crazy
Gotta pay to play in CA. What sucks is car enthusiasts aren’t ruining the car community, side shows/takeovers are and most of those people are not car enthusiasts.
I live in Kentucky and its probably one of the best states for cars tbh, never had to do a smog check and I don't think copa care about loud or modified cars unless you're driving crazy
CA born and raised. Currently have a 21 WRX protuned. Registration was $500 this year, insurance $2750 for full coverage on only the WRX. 22 years driving experience, no pts on my record and no accidents either. The insurance premium is for $1000 deductible. To have $500 deductible would have increased the premium a few hundred dollars
At this point cali is too far gone. You cant even run a factory valved exhaust on the loud setting without the risk of losing the ability to drive your car in the state forever. Move if you can, or learn the rules and play by them
C'mon bro, use some common sense. California has the strictest emmissions laws because it has the largest population of people and cars. California had a really bad smog problem back in the 70's-90's where you could literally see the smog just linger over LA and other large cities. Air quality really suffered. We also had that whole thing about a hole in the ozone layer up in the north pole or something. Anyways, LA's/California's air has largely improved thanks to stricter emissions devices, so its not all bad. What DOES suck, is that California has implemented other draconian laws in the name of emissions control and what not. Like changing your air intake or your muffler/catback exhaust is gonna change the emissions of your vehicle, really?? It also raises the prices of parts because they HAVE to be CARB certified, so if you're catalytic converter goes bad, replacing it is gonna cost you $1000-2000, and if your car uses 2 or 3 converters, good luck!
What do you mean when you say pass your turbo. I’m 14 and want to get a sc300 and wanna put a turbo on it but I just don’t know if it’s completely illegal
I live in arkansas. heres our process to register your car. go to courthouse, add car to your assesment. walk to next window hand them your title and $35 and get your tags. Good for 1 year. then after that you dont even have to go the courthouse, just renew online after that. I couldnt imagine having to go through all these hoops just to drive a car.

I live in mississippi and i've never ever heard of a smog. ( i know what it is now). No inspection or anything. I have a 370z with a loud ass exhaust and never met a cop that cared haha
arizona only has smog in phoenix and tucson and it costs less to get a 5 year registration than it does to get 1 year in commiefornia plus i have a special american flag plate that costs $25 extra per year to support veterans and it still costs me less for 5 years with an extra $125 tacked on
Hey Johnny did you ever change the oil gallery gaskets in the RevUp? the oil pressure looks normal again, or did the oil pressure sensor swap fix it? Cheers from Australia!
Hey Johnny, unrelated question. How do you wash your z? Is the soap at the self service car wash bad? Also how do you protect it from sun damage, my car gets crazy hot in my driveway
I challenge any Californian who doesn't have a production car that has just come out of the factory and hasn't been driven yet, to come to France and try, I mean try to make the authorities accept that their vehicle doesn't end up crushed in a pound because it's considered a "wreck" or worse "ruin", or just for those whose maintenance is ok, see their vehicle just considered non-compliant and that the slightest movement of their wheel will be a fine so large that they could have bought a Bugatti Verron and set it on fire that it would have been less expensive. I'm obviously trolling in my comment and this first paragraph will occupy people suffering from extreme neuronal loneliness, but for the others, I recently had the following question from a friend: "Why do all the videos of garages in the United States show vehicles arriving at their place while driving in states that even we here would never have seen as wrecks?" So past the "you know the videos don't necessarily show reality, or the majority". It was still obvious that it is common to see states of the very structure of the vehicle totally destroyed, gnawed, or reassembled with pieces of tape! And after some research, indeed the rules concerning the mandatory inspection of the condition of the vehicle are very far from what is done in a completely normal way in France, and in addition it depends on the state in the USA, and after some feedback I learned that in California, apart from the pollution control, there was also no mandatory annual inspection with the inspection of all the mandatory safety points that if one is not good prohibits the vehicle from driving and after two times, it ends up destroyed! But hey, apart from the particularities, rules and the most atrocious cases which I think are not due to enthusiasts who maintain their vehicles correctly because they just want to continue living, eh already that! If there were to be one day a technical control of the same level with inspections of each screw, each organ, and that at the slightest rust even on the surface you are given fucking fines, it risks hurting the ass of a lot of people. So I will end by telling you to enjoy my friends, enjoy to the fullest of having to only have to respect anti-pollution or power rules, enjoy because the day when this will be over you will understand why in Europe the culture of big cars has never arrived, because it is just practically impossible to respect all the imposed rules! When we see that even a factory-leaving vehicle that complies with the American standard is almost too much, and that here for imports it is almost impossible, not because of the money but because hundreds of things have to be changed, I tell you, enjoy it because no one can tell you how long it will last and tell yourself that there is only one thing for sure, it will not last forever, I don't know how it will happen, how quickly, or by what method, but in short, enjoy it!!!!

Here in russia reg fee is 400$+ per year of 350z de cause of horse power over 249hp. But people incomes not even close to US. Always was that law, if more than 249hp the fee is almost x10. Old DE Z costs over 20000 bucks in ok condition. But no smog test yet, however they are looking to begin that test too. All tuning is illegal tbh. But still no one cared. That times are getting closer to the end.
Smog in SOCAL was out of control. Emissions regulations did so much to improve our air quality. It sucks from car modding stand point but breathing clean air benefits everyone. Not just selfish ass car guys. Which I include myself in
You should be freely allowed to modify your vehicles, just use catalytic converters (performance ones exist), properly vent crankcase/engine, and have it properly tuned. All things that can be easily checked at any smog station in California. The smog issue was that everyone until the mid 70s drove gas guzzlers without catalytic converters, it wasn’t the small percentage of car enthusiasts causing the smog crisis. The reason why Cali has its laws is because they don’t want to lose out on money from tickets, companies paying to get their parts carb certified, and the fact that people who make the rules are completely alien to car modification.
see these videos you should not be filming and sharing yourself speeding around in your car the police see it all they have crews of staff members whose only job is to scrape the internet for information on everyone so anytime you post they will eventually see you incriminating yourself braking laws.

I honestly think you’re making excuses. You just need a friend in Arizona to let you use the address and you go register the car in Arizona. You don’t have to show anything. You can have a California driver license that’s what I do. You just make excuses at this point.
Oooh, I wasn’t aware that you could have cars registered in a different state that your licensed for! If only I had a friend in Arizona haha and no excuses here, I’m still learning all the in-and-outs. Appreciate your comment Mikey 🙏🏼
