Thank-you for this fantastic video! I managed to pick up one of these machines today at a vintage shop and I'm keen to take care of it so that it runs for another hundred odd years!
Thank you Alex. I admire your videos and machines that are in your possession! Good job. Very interesting to learn history of Singer sewing machines. A lot of people around the world for over a century has enjoyed using a Singer sewing machine and I know why. They are perfect!
Thank you Alex. I'm saving this video to my notes. I hope I can find a Bradley Family Sewing Machine needle for mine. Or something that fits the machine. I miss using it. It is heaven using these machines. Full control. And they look beautiful. I just love the History of them too.
Oh gosh Thank You So Much for this! I just bought very old Husqvarna Freja, and did not know how to put the bobbin to the shuttle. Now I know and can get on working with the precious old lady! Over all very informative and useful video, I shall be revisiting this alot!
Thank you for the great helpful information. Learnt a lot from watching this video. Very informative. Love the old Singers. I’m just learning how to restore them myself to rescue a few that have come into home. Funny how they jump into my car. 😆
I have an 1886 model 12 treadle that doesn’t have a transverse shuttle! Must be a new and improved model. I’m happy to have two bobbins for it and I can’t find a source to buy anymore that size. It’s smaller with a brass ring in the middle. I’m sure that you’ve seen them before Alex!
😀🙌🙌Sencillamente muy bueeeno . Gracias por compartir , tengo una y no sabía cómo ponerla en forma , e aprendido mucho con uds fue muy explosivo 👍👍👍🖐️😄bye 🇦🇷
I just found you through Google and watched a couple of videos. I have learned so much. Thank you so much for posting this information and also for your work preserving these wonderful beautiful machines. I think I will soon watch all of your posts!
I have a Grover Baker manufactured in 1859 attached to a treadle table. It was given to me by a elder lady I used to take care of. It was in her basement and it had got wet but I have cleaned it up and the parts move great. but it is missing a front plate the covers the thread. I don't now where to get one. and maybe some more needles. I want to get it working and show my 14 year old granddaughter how to use it, she started sewing 3 years ago. And I told her when I am gone it is hers as long as she doesn't get rid of it. I hold it dear to me because it came from my dear friend Hazel who was like a Grandmother, it was her Grandmother who bought it new. Do you now where I can get the part and needles. I have followed you for awhile and love your videos. Thanks Marilyn
Hello. I love your videos! Very helpful! I would like to see a video about a machine I have that is rather rare. She is a combination VS1 and VS2. She has a black faceplate and a nut right behind the spool pin. These along with a fiddle base and carnation decals. I am sure you know about this rare lady. Would love to see what you have to say about this rarely seen lady. Thank you for all your videos that are so helpful!
Hi just found you what clear and informative instructions on the care of these machines. Please could you provide a link to your video on cleaning the metal parts I looked but could not find it. - you mentioned it was on a frister 10
Mr. Askaroff, would you have any videos on removing the balance wheel bushing on the 12? Or know where to find instructions on how to do so? I finally have the wheel moving but it needs cleaning in this area. Thank you.
I have just acquired that achine the Singer 12K, it is in pretty good shape, needs new decals, but the case, it is a rectangle shape and the machine slides out from the side. I am anxious to start sewing, needs a few tweeks so I can sew, but it does turn and sounds like sewing music. Where can I get replacement decals?
Enjoyed watching this, so informative. :) Lovely fiddle base. Can you do a clip on how to service a vibrating shuttle machine. If you've done one already, post. a link. Thanks for all the tips.
Hey Alex! I recently purchased a machine online that I thought was a singer 12. Now that I have it at my house, i can read the faded decals and it says Robins & Co Improved Singer. Do you have any idea about this company? Any way of dating my machine?
Thank you for the video. Much needed information. I've just got a 12k from 1888. Well used by the looks of her. Just about to start to give her a clean up and service. Which needles did you say were compatible with this model? I cannot get the video to pause in the correct place.
I like the way the Minnesota a shuttle is set up better than I do the singer vibrating shuttle that has less moving parts. Even though I know that's not a vibrating shuttle or comparable to one
Hi Alex I have a Jones Serpentina and the needle bar came out of adjustment and I don't have the user manual. Could you give me some help on how I can adjust it again? Thank you
Hi Alex. I have a 1910 Singer shuttle and I just cant get the timing right, so the needle a d the shuttle dont meet to pick up the thread. I’ve tried to adjust underneath but the increments are so tiny! Any ideas please?
Do you know what the trick is to remove the balance wheel from a 12K? I've got mine working well, but the balance wheel is glued to the shaft with old oil and needs cleaning. I don't see a way to remove the stop motion knob to allow the balance wheel to come off.
Just acquired a 1888 12K with no needles. I've tried to find the needles you recommend but can't. Where did you get yours from? I'm in the UK and assuming you are! Thanks.

Engineering Gauge block were probably created on a machine like this in 1886 Carl Edvard Johansson used his wife's Singer machine en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gauge_block Alex it would be nice if you could use a higher resolution this video is 360p I guess you have a slow internet connection. All the best for 2021 I enjoy what you do, my sewing machine like this is a Bradbury but not a fiddle base.
You dog looks a bit like a Lancashire Heeler they were a working dog used for livestock a cross between a Corgi and a Manchester Terrier en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancashire_Heeler
You darling man. You are a joy to listen to. And an excellent instructor. Super cute in your cap.
Alex is truly the expert in all things sewing machines! Thank you for your generosity in sharing these informative videos.
LOVE that reusing the old thread reel idea! Also, this is the most thorough, least useless info, service tutorial I've ever seen. Magnificent video.
Thank you! I need to read my manual again. I didn't know about the take up arm spring adjustment. I just left it to the back. I will be checking that!
Absolutely love this. Your job looks amazing.
Got to love you Poms, what you can do in those tiny sheds puts the rest of the world to shame. And no heating!!!!
What an absolutely beautiful machine. No machine made today could hold a candle to this beauty. Not in looks. Not in usefulness.
If you sew a lot, you will get really tired of threading that bobbin. I have one and it is very time consuming.
Thank-you for this fantastic video! I managed to pick up one of these machines today at a vintage shop and I'm keen to take care of it so that it runs for another hundred odd years!

Google Schmetz 46x1. There are many listings. Also, The old Boye #23 in the wood tubes is what I use for mine.
