Hey Joe. Most of the time if I am flying local I don't bring it. If I do on xc I normally just hold it and take a look every 15 min or so to make sure I'm still on heading.

Kaden, no need to pump throttle on start up. :) Primer does the work. Unless you have an O200 engine. Blue skies!!
