I love making new plants from cuttings. It’s free plants. That’s plant math. I don’t have luck with water propagation. I use perlite, I find water roots don’t transfer to soil very well!
Excellent instructive video. I have a beautiful Sun Impatiens that it over 8 years old with brilliant deep orange flowers. I have made many many new plants from my mother plant over the years.
@@GrowParadise Hey so at the end where you plant the Impatiens in the soil, you have a narrow hole and the roots go tits up. Is this for a purpose? Does it matter how I lay my roots when I'm ready to plant? Thanks!
Awesome information. I got mine for Mother’s Day here in the US and they’re so tall and leggy I was looking for good information on making them look bushy and beautiful and you have given the best information by far!
Thank you from San Diego! I’m in the process of cutting down mine, but didn’t want to lose all those precious cuttings. I had no idea I now have a “NEW” small garden of cuttings to regrow…many thanks!!! 🪴🌱🪴🌱🪴🌱
Truly helpful video with simple and insightful explanations. Wonder if you can advise us please. I was given an impatiens ( possibly Niamniamensis- based on photos online). About 6 months ago It got knocked and a branch snapped off, I stuck that in water and roots grew so I potted it and gave it to my daughter. In one respect it is doing very well. But it has shot up so ( IMO) is a bit weedy and now needs a stick for support. And it remains only one branch. My own is multiple branches from base. It had big growth spurt after reporting ( only one size up) and this has meant it has thinned out. Is there anything that can be done for either plant to get them to bush out more? I have punched out the tops of mine to stop it growing further upwards. Thank you for any advice
Followed your technique and I have wonderful roots. However, the leaves look awful and are falling off. What did I do wrong? Will the plant still grow since it has great roots?
So stoked that I chose these little guys! I’m always so scared to grow flowers because I have a shady yard but these seem to be perfect! And the for me too it’s the funnest to propagate! Do you think it will life through winter if I bring a cutting indoors for winter and start new every spring? The annual and perennial thing always confuses me because of climate zones. Thanks for the wonderful info! 🙏
Another great and helpful video! You’ve got a super collection of impatiens :) I’m wondering if you can suggest some sellers of impatiens seed! I successfully grew tuberosa and cinnabarina this year, and am growing kerriae, bombycina, kilimanjari cuttings alongside niamniamensis! I’m greedy for more now! Based in Dublin here
Thank you for this video! I can't start impatiens inside because they are toxic to my two cat. Where should I place them outside. Sun? Shade? I'm in So. California.
Thank you for the wonderful video! I have a parrot impatient and for some reason it’s not happy! The leaves fell off of one stock and the second stock has one bunch of leaves at the very top but is t flowering at all. What would you suggest I do? I can send a photo if that would help
Hi. Not sure if our plants had the same problem, but just wanted to mention I had an Impatiens arguta ("purple parrot flower") whose leaves were turning yellow at the bottom and falling off. This was a couple weeks ago. I decided to repot it and discovered it was extremely root-bound already and one root in particular was very long and had wound down around the bottom and even looked like mold was starting to grow around some of the exposed roots near the drainage holes. It took me a few hours to carefully untangle the roots. Within a few days of repotting in a bigger pot, the yellowing stopped and growth exploded over the next week. I also reduced watering a bit and tried to give it a little more sun (preferably morning sun or dappled). Hope this helps.
Thank you for the great video. Very informative. Xxx I am besoted with this plant. I bought 2 cuttings online after months and months of trying to find it. The cuttings came and i followed what i should do. Cuttings are in a glass of water, removed the excess leaves and 3 weeks later no roots and it has started to rot from the bottom up. Mins you tge cuttings tgat were sent to me wasn't 2 inches. Extremely small. Can you give me any link that sells them already rooted.
Will you please tell me what nutrients to put into the water while the impatien cuttings are growing roots. Also how often to change the water? Thanks so much.
Hi please help my velvet love is very leggy and I'm not sure if I can cut the branches. I have one shooting right and one left with very little leaves. Let me know how I can send a picture to you .. I don't want to lose this plant 😫
What do I do if the leaves on my cutting start to curl inwards? I keep it in a glass of tap water by my window, no direct sunlight shines on it (not sure if it needs sunlight). I only cut it a few days ago, no sign of any roots, just the leaves are curling :(
They are usually covered in seed pods from late summer until the first cold nights. The pods explode when they are ripe so you have to time saving the seeds very well 🙂
Does anyone know the truth about the issue of 'water' roots versus soil roots? I too am obsessed with cuttings propagation but have never discovered whether the plant will now merely have something to hold it upright while it develops soil roots, or whether it can use the 'water' roots immediately, and that there is no practical difference?
Thanks! The squirrels are forcing my hand on learning about propagating by cuttings. Edit: Also convincing me to hold back on buying any hormones. Save money.

I do the same steps as you but I use root hormone and put them straight into pot of soil. So glad I found your channel, New sub here.
Do they grow faster roots this way?

Hi Craig if I take impatiens cuttings now will they keep in the house through winter if I pot them up

Change it once a week to keep it fresh 👍😁
@@GrowParadise Great! Thanks much
I have a pod growing on the top of a Congo Cockatoo' - Parrot Impatiens
Can u tel me How do I harvest and plant 🪴
Hi . Thanks , just asking This flower is perennial
Hi, yes in a tropical climate this flower is perennial
Is there a way to get seed pods fromImpatient and what time of year is best to do that early spring or late summer if possible at all
They are usually covered in seed pods from late summer until the first cold nights. The pods explode when they are ripe so you have to time saving the seeds very well 🙂
Can you do this with any impatiens or is just the type you use in the video?
I think they will all propagate this way 👍
So to put this at windowshill but not in direct sunlight? Is that correct??
Yes, a windowsill for bright light but not direct scorching sun.
Good day! May I ask why our impatiens cuttings being rooted in water turns mushy and does not root at all? Thank you very much!
I'd recommend keeping it out of direct sunlight as it can warm the water and encourage rot. Change the water frequently too. I hope that helps.
@@GrowParadise thank you!
Can i add root stimulate hormon in the water?
I think the powder rooting hormone works best in soil, but there is no harm in experimenting 😁
What time of the year should I do this?
Can I still do it now, towards the end of August?
Spring or summer, they root really quickly if you do it then 👍
Can you propagate all plants?
Hi, when do these impatients flower? Mine stopped flowering in mid summer and it's now winter and I don't expect to see flowers....
From spring right up until the first frosts for me, they don't like too much heat so provide shade for it
Thanks! The squirrels are forcing my hand on learning about propagating by cuttings.
Edit: Also convincing me to hold back on buying any hormones. Save money.
😂👍
Great info but why do you call them im-pat-tee-enz?
All of us in the UK call them that 😃 well at least I think it’s not just me 😂😂

Hello, the seeds are in the green pods that appear after the flowers. The tiny bugs could be aphids and I'm not sure if these plants are poisonous 👍🪴
