    I tend to use color ramp on constant with pre-existing textures. There's always a lot of improvisation and not one set process, but that's the fundamentals for my method.
    edit: OH, i forgot to mention, I often color-ramp *after* a shader to RGB node to do cell-shading type stuff. (Then I re-apply colors with a mix node or some form of vector math, again, lots of improvisation)
    edit again: oops just realized you have a whole video on cell shading
    edit again again: I'm considering playing around with softness of shadows depending on distance, to emulate the priority artists give to stuff when drawing. So closer things will have softer shadows than further away things

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  5 місяців тому

      @S41L0R yeah, the color ramp is really useful. I hope it goes well with your experiment with shadow distances, it sounds pretty cool!

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  4 місяці тому

      Hey @rowanberryanimations I'm excited for your school project! All you need to do is use a mix color node set to overlay, connect your image texture to the A input, and the node setup from this tutorial to the B input. Adjust the factor to a value that seems good to you, and connect the result to a principled or diffuse bsdf.
      I hope this helps 😁

    • @ComfeeMug

      @Kalyptic I'm so glad you asked! It is part of the subject of my next video, but you will basically want to have a default mix color node, a gradient texture plugged into its factor, and two different colors of textures of your choice; one plugged into the A and the other into the B. The gradient will then control how sharp or smooth both textures mix 😁

    Thank you so much, this is so cool! But for some reason it works really well on the ball, but when I try to put in on some buildings I downloaded the texture is swirly and super inconsistent and stretched on the buildings. I tried looking it up but I couldn’t find an answer. I tried changing the scale of the texture and that sorta helped but it’s different for every building. Does anybody know what going on? I really don’t want to make a whole city from scratch 😭

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  4 місяці тому +1

      @LizTheWritingWiz I'm really glad you like the tutorial! The problem you're running into sounds very interesting. I have run into this problem before, but was able to fix this by changing the vector input on the mapping node from UV to object. That will give it a much more uniform look in case you haven't done that already. To help clarify, the sequence will go like this:
      Texture Coordinate Node [Object Output] -> Mapping node [Vector Input]
      If you have already done that, though, then you may want to place a separate XYZ and math node set to Subtract right between these nodes. It will look like this:
      Texture Coordinate Node [Object Output] -> Separate XYZ [Z output] -> Math Node set to Subtract [Connected to the top input] -> Mapping Node [Vector Input]
      You will want to do this because mapping nodes operate on a single point outwards, stretching the texture to a certain amount the further away it gets from that point. Adjusting the subtract math's bottom value will allow you to change where that point is, making the texture spread much more evenly.
      I hope this helps, but let me know if it doesn't and I will try to help find another way 😊

    I understand that you are talking there in your team with each other, but let me ask - how can I apply your nodes to my texture, to my mesh? I have an asset with a bunch of textures, and how can I apply your construction of your nodes to my nodes? Where to start and where to end?
    You can gain a lot of subscribers if you go outside your room and explain how to make an anime with any assets.

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  5 місяців тому

      @3dd205 Hi, I hope you're doing well 😄 You asked a pretty important question, and I want to help.
      I'm a one person team at the Comfee Mug, and it is my goal for this series to equip blender users with the right set of tools and understanding of nodes to make it easy to create any anime texture from scratch by themselves.
      Now, it's important to note that the methods described in this video are not meant to turn realistic and/or other stylized textures and shaders into painterly anime stylized shaders. But, if you want to mix the techniques I shared with you in this video with an already existing shader or texture, you can use the mix color node to blend the two. I would recommend using the "overlay" function on the mix color node.
      I hope this helped answer your questions, but if you need anything else I will be happy to continue this conversation in my Discord's DMs so I can provide a more specific solution.

    How to make baking shader above

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  Місяць тому

      @aniime4006 Are you asking how to bake this texture? All you would need to do for that is convert this texture to an image texture. I'm pretty sure this is possible in the UV unwrapping window. I hope this helps, but let me know if I didn't answer your original question and I will be happy to help more if I can!

    I followed this to a t, but my texture looks completely different and not painterly at all! How did you get the voronoi texture to come out blocky like that?

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  26 днів тому

      @Organical_Mechanical Thank you so much for going through my tutorial and telling me the problem you ran into, I'd love to help 😊 My first thought is that your object may be too big or small, so you may want to scale up or down the voronoi and noise a bit to get the kind of result shown in this tutorial. If that doesn't work, though, it may be because you are using an older version of blender.
      I hope this helps, but let me know if it doesn't and I'll see if there is another way to fix the issue you're running into 😊

      @@ComfeeMug Sadly it doesn't! And I'm on 4-point-something. The voronoi texture stays as an arrangement of super soft radial gradients rather than blotches like you have!

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  26 днів тому

      @Organical_Mechanical Oh, radial gradient you say? What is your mapping node set to? There's a little "Type:" drop down menu at the top of the node that list several different functions as follows:
      Point
      Texture
      Vector
      Normal
      If you're using vector or normal then you will get a radial effect. Point is the best for consistent textures, but let me know if that's the problem or not, cause it may also have to do with the distortion control messing with the scale.

    You're using what version of blender?

      @ComfeeMug  5 місяців тому

      @enetael I'm using the blender version 4.0. I will try to stay up to date with each new version of blender as my tutorials come out.

      @@ComfeeMug I see, I'm using 3.6 LTS, I saw that some nodes on your video had normalize option, and some nodes like voronoi texture had more options too, that's why I asked.

      @enzetael yeah, I definitely recommend updating to version 4.0!

    Can you bake this into a texture?

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  2 місяці тому

      @1upvscpu64 I haven't tried to bake it myself, but it's definitely possible to convert it into an image and/or UV texture for your models.

    how do i integrate colors using these nodes?

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  12 днів тому

      @unrealgame192 Great question! You can do this in a few different ways, the easiest of which would be connecting this texture to the B input of a mix color node set to overlay with the color of your choice in the A input. But you can also connect this texture to a mix color's factor, with it left as mix, and choose two different colors in the A and B input. The A input will be effected by the darker values of the base texture, and the B input is influenced by the light values.
      I hope this helps!!

    IS THERE A WAY TO ADD THIS TO MODELS WITH PBR TEXTURES?

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  15 днів тому

      @sargentthecreator5771 Absolutely!! If you mix this texture in before the BSDF you're using for a given shader, perhaps by using a mix color node set to something like overly, multiply, soft light, etc., you can blend this texture into a shader to get the desired effect 😄

    can you export this texture to Unreal Engine?

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  2 місяці тому

      @Snu_Snu69 I believe there is a way, but from what I have seen it involves external plugins because the textures native to blender aren't native to UE. That being said, you can definitely convert this to an image texture and unwrap it in UE. That's probably the easiest and fastest way of doing it 👍
