Arguably the best video ive come across to show others what the ramp is like for SWA and the industry as a whole. Keep up the great work and stay safe out there fellow Co-heart!
@@PHXRampGuy Great! I admire the ramp folks from the window on the plane. That's a rough job. As you were manipulating the headsets, plugging in external air, attaching the tail stand, and the tug and stuff, I was imagining you doing it during a blowing snowstorm. Rough work. I'm guessing the airport is PHX. My SWA airport is MDW, so the snowstorm stuff doesn't really apply down there...
I believe it's a hard job that's easy to do. It is PHX. Working in a snowstorm is grueling work but work here in the summer is extremely hard with tarmac temps hovering 130+.
This checks out. A long time ago, I heard somewhere that Southwest has some of the fastest turn around times in the industry, being roughly 20 minutes from arrival to departure. In my experience the second that plane is at the gate, I know to drop whatever it is I'm doing and start getting in line to board cause its only another 10 minutes before we are on that plane. I never really paid too close attention to it, but looking back, arrival to departure times seem to be 25-45 minutes apart which definitely fits in with a 20 minute turn time. Well done.
I did that job when I was 19 years old and thought it was the best job in the world! It was back in the days before the belt loader mounted converter let extensions into the belly of the plane. Im 46 now and want to go back to slugging it out on the ramp with those conveniences.
5:33 didn’t know y’all scanned bags. Thought it was grab n go😂. No wonder it takes a minute to get ur bags from bag claim. Also cool how almost everyone dose a different job like a Swiss Army knife. Great video. Thank you rampers
We do our best to get the bags out to baggage claim. The scanning helps us as well making sure if the bag has to stay on if the plane is continuing on as the same flight number. Then sometimes we have issues with our equipment which can take awhile. But yeah each person has an important role to play out in the ramp from handling bags, stocking the snacks, and handling the lavatories.
The powerstow is a wonderful piece of equipment we get to use. But sometimes you don't have to use especially on the -800/ MAX 8, so you use the regular belt loader and have a second person to help.
Sounds like a great story...we should be collecting these. Modern stuff has made our work "easier", and more productive....maybe we should bear some of the fruits of these more productive situations.
Nice! I'd love to get a job as a ramp agent sometime. I'm in O'Hare, so I would be stationed there. I think I'm fit for the job, and I'd love a job like this!
@NiknNate_Official it's a fun job with its pros and cons. For me, I love see the planes takeoff and land since our gates are close to the most used runway. If you decide to go on that route, do you're research and see which company works out since you can work directly with the airline or a third party company.
What type of camera are you using? I miss this job! I did the ramp at IAH in the summer...gosh that apron n tarmac was freaking 120-130! Even the compartments below! I did narrow body aircraft for the major and united express. 2016 for temp job
@@lsubandtrumpet2014 I use a GoPro Hero 9. I think here in PHX feels different since we have "dry" heat. I guarantee the tarmac is near those temps. But it's worse when you have a plane that's been sitting at the gate for hours and turns into an oven.
@@verse2909 For us we bid not only for the schedule but the position as well and you stick with it until the next bid unless you pick a specific line which can be any position.
Pilot for SWA. This is an incredible video. Thank you for all the hard work y’all do. Seriously thank you. ~ HOU crew

Great video, thank you. I didn't think I'd sit and watch the whole thing, but I did, and it was a really terrific behind-the-scenes look.
I appreciate the comment :)

Great video. FLL Checking in. Nice short stack… sorry MDW doesn’t believe in that.
You are lucky that you get to extend the front of the conveyor belt to unload and load the bags.
