    I have heard on another review that in fact all the traitor guard arms are compatible with all the traitor guard bodies. So you can stick the corpseman and leader bits onto two separate bodies. That's certainly how it worked with the veteran guard from the Octarius box. Some arms may look a bit better on specific bodies and that might be why the instructions are how they are but that's not the same as them not working on other bodies.
    Also the semi-recent Kill Team balance dataslate upped the number of operatives in an Intercessor kill team (and most other space marine kill teams) to 6.

    ... but isn't it totally thematic if the instructions to assemble the Traitor Guard are chaotically laid out? That said, I get your point about the Compendium lists. After four sets (and a couple of WD lists) it's obvious that the Compendium was just an immediate stopgap solution if you wanted to play a certain faction immediately, but these can not really be regarded as "real" KT lists. I kind of regret buying it because I found that I don't want to play any of the lists in there - and I'm having tons of fun playing the Octarius Kommandos anyway.

    • @Eclipsed_Embers
      @Eclipsed_Embers 2 роки тому +1

      honestly the ones that make it most obvious are the releases that are basically just straight upgrades to the compendium, why would someone play 2 Genestealer Neophyte Hybrids Fire Teams when they can play a Wyrmblade Kill Team? why play 2 Pathfinder Fire Teams when you can play the Pathfinder Kill Team? why play 2 Kommando Fire Teams when you can play the Kommando Kill Team? why play either of the Thousand Sons Fire Team options when you can play a Warpcoven?
      the Compendium still works as a stopgap for factions and units that haven't gotten their own Kill Teams yet though, Neophyte Hybrids might have a better option but Acolyte Hybrids don't and some factions like Tyranids don't have any non-Compendium teams at all yet (I'm hoping that they'll finally get plastic Lictors when they eventually do).

    it looks like these traitor guardsman are in the same boat as kreig and sisters, any arms will fit on any torsos, it's not advertised but there is more room for kitbash and conversion than it appears, perhaps the move is to build all legs and torsos than just hunt for all the arms you want. Perhaps you could glue the medic arms onto the two extra bodies you have and then you don't have to buy a second box.

    The whole issue around different options using the same parts is really frustrating. I managed to get around some of the issues in the Octarus krieg with a bit of cutting and green stuff.
    As for the terrain in this box, I really do like it, but I totally agree it’s not amazing for KT straight out of the box, my plan is to fill out the board with a few munitorum containers and barricades. I’m hopeful I can get some interesting board layouts that way.

    That's a fair review. It seems as though GW intended from the beginning for the Compendium lists to be 'get you by' lists until the full versions were released with the boxed expansions, but they were cheeky in charging so much money for what should have been included with the core rules. But I think they've accidentally created two ways to play - either Compendium lists for simpler fire teams of generic, unnamed fighters (which has merit, the best version of this is actually the Fireteam boxed game, which is more streamlined and card-driven and leans in to the boardgame feel of KT 2021), or 'custom' lists of named characters with individual personalities and a lot more detail. I think there's a place for both, but the game is a bit confused as to what it is, just like KT 2018. Is it asymmetric spec-ops (almost by definition, you cannot have symmetric spec-ops), or general skirmish? Named characters or unnamed 'grunts'? A tournament game or a narrative game? Quick and fun or slow and intricate? They're trying to cover all of those bases.

    Glad you like this one. The rules are pretty solid for both teams, so I too am picking it up.
    As for what else one needs, that measuring tool is just increments of 1", 2", 3" & 6". A measuring tape/ruler will function justl fine. More important are the 2"x1" barricades (which one could proxy too), the engage/conceal tokens (more work to proxy) and the TacOps deck (difficult to proxy because of the need to randomize one's selection of 6).

I also like getting the options to finally having a helix adept phobios marine that is not the hard to get push fit from the old etb kit. Everything is rather useful for 40k and killteam in this set. I am liking the direction kill team is going. So far the different box teams are an improvement over the older versions

  • @DoktorTechnometer
    @DoktorTechnometer 2 роки тому +2

    I was perplexed by The Blooded as well - from the off over the Chieftain and the Corpseman - as I had been using some BSF Traitor Guardsmen as deserters to convert to mix in with DV cultists I had a spare sergeant from that to use as was as a Chieftain for The Blooded, which meant I could build the Corpseman and still have the compulsory Chieftain.
    I am also using the BSF grenade throwing guy to be a Brimstone Grenadier, and a BSF flamer to be a Gunner.
    And with the spare lasgunners from BSF it is a way I'll get to 14 models if I don't take the Ogryn and the Enforcer.
    As an aside all the spare bits (guns and heads mostly) can be quite easily converted (with razorsaw as plastic) onto old DV cultists that look like guard deserters too - so if we ever get a 40k datasheet I can do multiple squads (probably).
    Finally there is a similar issue with the marines, as in same body for multiple unique operatives, but as I have quite a few unbuilt incursor/infiltrator boxes that can be avoided but...
    TL;DR you don't have full free choice, plan decisions wisely as the video states, and have fun with all the spare bits if you like converting.
    Edit: As the video states the first issue for the Blooded is body C11 and leg C12 (single occurrence) being used for 10 (Traitor Chieftain), 11 (Traitor Trooper), 12 (Traitor Corpseman) - as I have worked my way through the same happens with 19a (chest C78 and back/legs C77) - singular occurrence which you need to build 19c (Traitor Commsman) or 19d (Traitor Flenser) - and all the spare BSF Traitor Guardsmen won't help with that Operative choice - so I gave up with following the booklet for some and just decided to convert/go my own way.
    And 20a being needed for 20c Traitor Gunner (Grenade Launcher) or 20d Traitor Butcher - this seems really odd as if the D sprue (the addon Kill Team sprue that has the parts to make Blooded unique Operatives) have not been very well planned/designed to work with a single box of Traitor Guardsman sprues - a second box of Traitor Guardsmen would sort (but not available yet) - especially if you don't take the Ogryn and/or Enforcer and want the extra 4 Troopers to have a 14 model Blooded Kill Team.
    So really starting to relate to the "Mostly?" part in the video title - you basically can't build one of every unique Operative OOTB (at least thrice for the Blooded) as is and the booklet is a little bit confusing around that.

    From my experience, you can often put the options for one model on a torso that isn't specified, so I think it *might* be possible to have both a leader and a corpseman by using the corpseman specific bits on a different torso. However, I haven't seen the models myself, so maybe there is that limitation with these ones *and* I know there were some real limitations in the Guard Veteran's box because most of the special weapons share the same arm piece, and there is not sufficient copies to use them all, so there might be ones like that in the traitor guard box.

This Is Not A Test, Stargrave, Space Weirdos, and old Killteam. So I will be buying the new traitors when the models for this new expansion are released separately. @Flight_of_Icarus 2 роки тому +7

    I have the advantage of knowing what these boxes are like in terms of options, with certain options being mutually exclusive, since I got Nachmund, and the Corsairs/Legionaries were just like that. So what I did is I went out and hunted down the 7 monopose Blackstone Fortress Traitor guardsman sculpts that these guys were designed to fit in with. I actually liked their "chieftain" or sergeant more than the one previewed in the articles, so I've got a corpseman for sure. It also comes with a flamer, a guy chucking grenades, and a couple of guys with basic lasguns and melee weapons, so that set gives you plenty of breathing room for building a Kill Team, and even would let you field 14 models at once I'm pretty sure. Problem is everyone had the same idea, so that kit is very hard to track down these days.
    I'm hoping, btw, that eventually after enough of these kits come out, and enough White Dwarf Rulesets drop, that they just outright release a second Compendium with all of the rules reprinted and compiled back into one book, maybe with some of the teams GW considers "obsolete" like the Thousand Sons and Forge World Compendium Kill Teams replaced with their White Dwarf counterparts.

      There's nothing 'ball and socket' about the heads - the neck pieces are shaped specifically and though I could do some trimming and green stuff work, that shouldn't be the requirement. Also, many of the arms will take a good amount of extra work to make fit properly (as they have specific 'bumps' on the torso and arms to help you match them up) and it's just a very confusing play, especially for new people getting into the hobby. I thought the terrain pack is called the "Warzone Fronteris?" Tempted to get this box as the terrain set is 200 alone without any models, and I like it a lot!
    Also, Phobos-armored marines ARE Primaris marines. It's an armor variant from Cawl's MKX shenanigans.

    I have to agree with your complaints about the terrain. Most of it's fine, it's just that instead of the landing pad they really should have included several sprues of the ruined Hab Bunker that came with the old Kill Team Killzone: Sector Fronteris set. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that sprue was one of those that was produced in China, so GW doesn't have it in their own factory to use.
    As for the infantry build problems, it's been present in all the new mini's with Kill Team. There are many bodies that have 3 different loadouts so you either have to pick one to stick with, get creative with modding options onto other bodies, or plan to pick up an extra box or two when available. Trust me, there will be people parting these kits out on Ebay so if you can find a good deal it might be worth jumping on.

    I was stunned when I picked up my box at the sheer weight of the box. It is the most weight in a 40K box that I've picked up (admittedly, I have an embarrassingly large volume of boxed stuff in my back log) in 9th edition.
    What? The instructions to assemble the chaos troops are ... chaotic? (So sorry, I could not resist).
    Seriously, thank you for the heads' up that the instructions are inconsistent in how variants are presented in the instructions.

    Dear Uncy Atom, vis a vis the construction options for the Traitor Guard. We both know that the first thing your avid 40kér is going to do is buy a box, or two, of regular guard and make all the options. You can't tell me GW didn't know this. It's what we do and why they set up three complete options in the box. But yes, always read the instructions through first. You don't want to get to the part where they say, "then cut the red wire,... after first cutting the blue one" Anyone from bomb disposal school will tell you about that one.

    Going off what little I know of the new KT rules, a FAQ recently seems to be pushing the white dwarf and boxset killteams over the core Compendium lists, which is... daft in other ways, but hey, it's something worth noting. In theory though the extra sprue units like the Phobos Marines present here shouldn't be as finicky as the KT exclusive factions considering most the time it's special poses or wargear you don't get in the main 40k boxes and thus in theory could be spread along pre-existing sculpts.

  • @NapGod

    the terrain is pretty sick with that walled fortress thing if you were playing a normal game of 40k. I remember Octarius having similar gotchas regarding model building restrictions, but making that chieftan necessary and automatically removing the corpseman as an option is pretty egregious.

    Definitely list build, get a pencil and plan out with the assembly instructions, and maybe repeat a few times.
    I built the Krieg and I couldn't build the Plasma Gunner from my list. So I wound up cutting an arm from a pauldron, rotating, cleaning up with green stuff to get the list I wanted.
    Not ideal. Not sure what a good answer is ... I get that they want good looking models by balancing options vs monopose, but they are taking a chance to surprise and anger buyers.
    For the pricetag, it would be nice for a double-set of each squad, since building a decent roster to choose from will require doubling up (for Krieg at least -- I still want a comms, demolitions, flamer, but couldn't build that).

  • @wackyzaky
    @wackyzaky 2 роки тому

    Oh and not for this box set, but word of warning regarding the Starter Set -- you get Krieg Vets and Ork Commandos and scrap terrain with new rules -- but that set doesn't actually come with those rules.

  • @magnus0017
    @magnus0017 2 роки тому +1

    So, on the good side, yeah, this is a set I've also been super excited for (not getting it because finances and my backlog is way too big, but it is great). I'm also happy it took the fourth box to get space Marines, but also they look like a cool set.
    In ok, remember you can run 14 krieg instead of taking your two artillery things. A big ol crumpin' of guard on guard sounds fun (though the artillery is probably better).
    And in bad, hoo boy, this is literally my biggest problem with GW. They want to be a premium product without actually being premium. Every set of instructions I have ever used from them has errors like that; every set has weirdly chosen parts. Also, does that mean you're simply not allowed to take the model 11 and 12 because you have to make model 10 for the list? Just let that alone is inexcusable for a game box, let alone a "premium" one. Kill Team itself is full of other examples of this problem (*cough*movement shapes*cough*), but wow this one is just so . . . stupid. Someone reading through the instructions once should have caught it.

    Unfortunately, I discovered that KT2 does not fit my wargaming tastes at all. Biggest culprit is the campaign system (despite the good ideas of TacOps and SpecOps), followed by the distance shapes, defence without armor, list building restrictions, and overcomplicated wording of the cover rules.
    It's not a bad game, it's just a game that does nothing to entice me, despite being the least competitive player possible.

In my case every time I build a team I don't just build a list I build the full 20-man roster because you're supposed to build a full 20-man roster to then select models from for your list so yes I had to have extra miniatures outside of what I got in my Pathfinders from China box but that's okay because I already had compendium Pathfinders to add to them so it works out in the end.

    For the terrain, it is a weird choice, and I think the only reasons it's there is because it's the newest GW terrain and they want to shift stock without reusing models in previous boxes, so boom, you get that set. Frankly I'm hoping the next box is a bigger one with all new terrain. Maybe something more like Octarius, where it was all new sculpts. Ideally it's going to be Primaris Deathwatch Veterans vs something Necrons (maybe just immortals with a new sprue), because I want Deathwatch and I've got a buddy who likes Necrons. It's never going to happen, but man I can dream.

    The optional builds are fine, except there should NOT be a mandatory build that also has a secondary specialist build. You HAVE to have the one model, so that model's other optional build should be 'normal' guys.
    That was the saving grace of the Kill Team Kommandos. Each 'specialist' build also had a bog standard kommando build as the secondary build. That is cool. You can build all the specialists if you want, and secondary models can be the regular guys. Having multiple specialists on one build is just crap.
