What Makes Mega Man 4 Incredible....

  • MegaMan 4 feels like a natural progression in the series. For some it’s the same old song and dance but there’s so much more. We have had 3 installments and it feels like Capcom is literally running a victory lap around the competition . The addition of the power shot and grappling hook is refreshing and innovative making for great replay value depending on your play style. With every new installment the games feel even more colorful, vibrant, and charming. And while doing so on the NES it feels like Capcom has begun to perfect the use of it’s hardware capabilities. You now have two fortresses to run through and though levels aren’t as challenging as prior installments the game feels smoother never cheap in design. The levels feel fluid and fun to coast thru and if I lose it doesn’t feel like I was cheated in the process. Just because a game isn’t painfully difficult doesn’t mean it’s not enjoyable. We have had three installment so far but doesn’t mean we can’t have a fourth or that a series is stagnant. Capcom did a great deal of fan service here on the NES with MegaMan and it truly shows with the craftsmanship of the later games.

    You are correct, the charged buster is such a game changer. No longer do you have to rely on boss order and learning which robot masters are weak to which weapons. With the charged buster you are on an even keel with every enemy. Also, the bright flash weapon is a bit of a game breaker because it is a souped up flash stopper.

    I find it very interesting that so many reviewers put Mega Man 4 at the top of their lists. I started playing the Mega Man series when Mega Man 2 was released and it was love at first play. I got each subsequent game as soon as they were released and my opinion was always that all the games were amazing, but a certain intangible magic was present on 1-3 that dwindled starting with 4. My ranking off the top of my head would be 2,1,3,4,6,5. Nice video!

      That’s a solid list! When I first tried out MegaMan it was at a friends house. MegaMan 3 but most friends I had growing up swore by 2. When I had the chance to got out and pick up the series with my own money 4 had just come out so Insorts followed suit with the later half of games and went back and picked up the original trilogy later. mm1 was really nowhere to be found at that time but I love MM3 and mm2 from my own personal experience..I have 4 towards the top but but it’s not my personal #1. I do love the series that much more as they continued on mainly bc of the many things they implemented to innovate gameplay like the charge shot and slide. It just gave me a lot of options when playing through the series and I love revisiting them with different strategies each time

    A big nit-pick for me is with all the castle bosses the developers couldn't have figured out a way to use all the weapons?

    • @RockinKatReviews
      @RockinKatReviews  5 днів тому

      Agreed! It doesn’t feel as if you can sorta just charge shot your way to victory in many of the scenarios. With MM3 many of them really required you to search them out especially with doc robots and gamma to name a few
