I Second That Emotion (Smokey Robinson & The Miracles)
Bernadette (Four Tops)
You Keep Me Hangin' On (Supremes)
Ain't No Mountain High Enough (Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell)
What's Going On (Marvin Gaye)
James Jamerson put out more #1 hits with one finger than most bass players could ever dream of no matter how they played
Such Glorious music...and it was given a very strong heartbeat in the index finger oF JAMERSON.
This is a wonderful technique of
fading out the melody and just presenting the heartbeat.
Thank you for doing this.
Best bass player in history of .music
The best person to ever play the bass guitar, the best James Jameson.
I listened to this with headphones on. Nearly blew my ears off. James is the unsung hero of Motown.
I wish he could have lived to see how admired he truly was. He left us too soon along with Benny Benjamin.
Damn you Berry ! POS
In the 60's I was hearing this kind of music and I always asked myself ... what a wonderful kind of bass line performance is this. After more 50 years I have discovered to Jamerson, Oh my G-d!
Class Mr Bassman,Yes James had all the riffs for every Motown Hit..We salute you James Jamerson.R.I.P.🙏🏽
This great musician didn't get half the credit he deserved for the many great tracks he played on...
Wonderful video about the greatest bass player❤💜💙🥰
I suffer from clinical depression you have helped me feel better with the funk Brothers music
I go to sleep listening to motown, the bass and drums just do me, as does the rest of these musicians. Thank you Detroit, love 💘 from England
His the reason I ever picked up a bass
Love Motown music. Great artists and the fabulous Funk Brothers were the heart and soul of Motown. Sadly they never received the proper recognition. 👏👏🇨🇦
The unsung hero of Motown whose genius on bass was interwoven into the fabric of the label's great success
Hearing James Jamerson's bass.....singled out sounds even MORE AMAZING....THANK YOU!!
My fingers and my soul drop a river of tears every time I listen the music this Man gave to us.
Thanks God to give me the chance to enjoy his playing!!!
God bless James Jamerson!!!
Motown wouldn't have been motown if it wasn't for James Jamerson and the Funk brothers.
And one of the worst travesties was that he was not invited to the Motown 25 special in 1983, the night that Michael Jackson electrified the world with the famous "Moonwalk." My understanding is that he was there, but that he had not been invited as part of the Motown family--I don't know if tickets were sold to be in the studio audience at that event but if he had had to buy one it's a disgrace! I don't know all the details, and it might be that at that stage of his life he might have not been in any condition to be up there on the stage, but not to be invited to be there with the rest of them when he was such a part of making Motown what it became--it's just not right.
A master of really cool bass lines. For people who get deep into the bass guitar, this guy is so good he is pretty much a school subject.
LOVE James Jameson💖💖💖
My favorite bassist of all time
The greatest bass player of all time!
That is so true . I saw a list one time on here that had listed the 25 greatest bass players of all time .I watched I was fumed .I put in the commets you have got to be jokeing. The people they had listed said their idiol was Jamerson people like Geddy Lee Paul McCartney and several others they had Flea and Les Claypol .I said you idiot the greatest bass player ever was James Jamerson by far the man was so amazing everyone wanted him on their albums .
PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
He was. One of my hero's.
And there ain’t NO second place!
Booooy those What's going on bass licks are so infectious. 🎸
Excellent, thank you! 👍
I can see he died only 45 years old.
In many of the photos he had cigarette. But that was normal in the 60's.
Rock'n roll lifestyle is not the healthiest.
He died of complications stemming from cirrhosis of the liver, heart failure, and pneumonia.
He was a heavy drinker.
Never be another one. He's still mesmerizing us all
man i just love that bass thank you Jamerson
Sound like Fairchild 670s or something had a serious crush on them smooth basslines. Them recording, mixing, and mastering engineers had dynamic play in this Motown bass formula...Not taking anything away from my Funk Brothers. This music is some of my best healing medicine when my soul gets down and out. I appreciate it so much more each day.
I went to Hitsville on 7/5/13 one of the greatest days of my life ,,, I have played the guitar since I was 10 im 54 just bought a Jazz Bass Fender , It was because of one man James Jamerson I think he would be proud to know a guy that loved Motown would sit my guitar down so I can learn some of his music , He was a Great Musician !
Way to give us a good listen to the true funk master! James Jamerson will always be The Man. Sounds so good. Great job! Thank you for posting.
Not just his unmatched playing, but, it may be just me, the tone of that Precision Bass wipes me out, especially the notes on the Low E String.
The story goes that he never changed his strings.
@@nickmariotti4241 Thanks for the reply. I hadn't watched this video in a long time, but just did, when I saw the notification and read your reply. I will probably go on a Jamerson and Motown listening binge for several days, all the while smiling and clouding, a little, up at the same time.
The man who not only inspired me to play bass but taught me the Bass by putting rudiments in his playing
Probably played bass on more hit records than anyone in music history
Damn. Bernadette is sick
He will always be my favorite bass-player of all time. He was a genious at coming up with bass lines. I did not know that his son was gone too.
Mr. James Jamerson will always be #1 On bass in my opinion. 👍😎
This is the stuff, right here. Great job! Best bassist of all time. Period.
I was reading the comments and saw where I had commented on this 6 years ago. I said it was a Great video then, and I say it now. Great video of the greatest bassist, period.
He was my inspiration to learn to play bass. I play with one finger, I always thought it was comfortable for me to do it that way.. I was amazed when I found out he always played with one as well.
That's why I love the groove of flatwound
Strings
Yes indeed and he refused and never went roundwound.🎸
And he never changed his flat round strings according to Legend I'm not sure but I think he recorded most of his bass Parts through a B15 Ampeg
simply outstanding
Absolutely the no.1 Bass player.....James Jamerson!
Jameson and P bass, pure bliss
UNBELIEVABLE!!! and a great resource on what a bass should sound like from a music production view point!
EVEN with Marvin Gaye!! The man's a wizard!!! What's going on!!! Love it!
THE GREATEST BASS PLAYER Ever !,,ed
The man with the magic fingers! Just straight killing that funk machine!
Being born in 1969, and my parents last child, i grew up hearing these great pieces of music, my parents had an ear for music, i remember my dad singing all kinds of music in the house, i wouldn't trade my childhood for anything, some hard times, but the music helped me through
G.O.A.T
James Jameson was an absolute monster on the bass. No wonder he inspired John Paul Jones
and so many more
i have played and studied guitar since i was 11 im 54 and im going to start playing bass because of James Jamerson what a sound and he played his tail off ,,, Thanks for posting I LOVE IT !!!!
It was from Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell's greatest hits LP, 4:30 when I heard it I just had to find out who was playing that bass, that was over 40 years ago and I'm still hooked on the hook.
Dam, those bass lines are so clean and smooth.
So impressive! So pocket yet so flavorful!
❤whats goin on the best vynil ofallthetime
The GOAT.
Well done! You did a great job in letting the listener hear Jamerson's bass lines in the context of the songs. You can identify the songs, yet hear exactly what Jamerson was playing. Really great job!!
Bass Genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How did I miss this bass player in the many years I've been playing music?! Many thanks for posting this wealth of music magic!
The Master!!!
Thanks for posting this. My favorite bassist of all time. Such an incredible musician and still hardly anyone knows who he is. Unbelievable.
if you are a musician you know and respect his legacy
With today's modern stereo equipment, you can really hear now, he was either the second best or even the best talent on all of those recordings. Including the singer, writer, producer, etc. TY for the video highlighting his skill.
Very nice mix and tribute to one of THE best bassists - one who set the standard.
Simply the best sir paul agrees
Not only was he a great bassist, he was also really cute.
I second that emotion!
Yes very cute
Without James there is no mccartney, entwistle, jaco, levin, sting, you name it He Was the MAN!
Thank you. Great job. This surely deserves many more views. Jamerson fans don't know what they are missing, if they haven't found this video.
Fantastic tribute and demo
thank you so much for this great edit.... he was just the best on bass...and from yesterday to today to me he is the BEST OF THE BEST ask any bass player
Marvin was such a delightful soul!
I never heard MG sing jazz lines before. Nor seen him play an instrument. He was killing those tunes.
the man the bass the legend
His son who also played bass (James Jamerson Jr.) died too
Million of thanks!!!
You couldn't have done it better!!
Congratulations
Thank you for having this for us...
Smiling ear to ear! Great selection
He died so young
Awesome tribute to Jamerson. Amazing talent and groove.
If anyone has not seen it..you should watch this movie about Jamerson and the other great musicians that played for all those sessions. (Netflix has the disc)
IMDb: Standing in the Shadows of Motown (2002)
Documentary about the Funk Brothers, a group of Detroit musicians who backed up dozens of Motown artists.
Its free on Hulu. Its really great💙💜❤
@robcicca Thanks for your comment. Actually it was Wilton Felder playing on I want you Back but he did the bassline in Jamerson style like a lot of motown bass players would play in the LA era.
Thanks for putting this together, great stuff!
When I think "groove", this is exactly what I think about!!
Thank you for making this!
Thank you so very much for this video AND especially the great audio mix. Sincerely -thank you.
Great to hear the bass boosted
Este cara é simplesmente fenomenal, aqui no Brasil estudamos muito samba, bossa nova, baião, forró, mas nada se compara a essas linhas de baixo feitas e criadas por ele
Great job editing this together. Thank you!
What an exciting time!
The sound of the Universe.
AWESOME!!!!!!
James Jamerson, Big influence on John Paul Jones,if anybody does not know,he Is from Led Zeppelin, and is the reason I play bass and have a 73 Fender jazz and because JPJ in the beginning of Zeppelin played a Fender Jazz
beautiful, good work
That's where "da groove" came from!
Excellent video tribute !
@3:48, the supremes, you keep me hangin' on...my older brother used to play this song while growing up, played this same song ALL FREAKIN' DAY LONG FOR YEARS! LOL....so basically I rather not listen to it...but Jamerson is great on these songs!
I still plays it all day long. Hahahahaha kidding. But it’s still my fave JJ. The counterpoint between lead vocal and P Bass has got it all for me man. That’s what he done and nobody ever done it any better. My life would suck if not for the hot sweetness of Sir James Jameson.
Great examples of the King of Bass. 5* thanks for posting.
oh yeah that's grooove
Une autre planète pour Christine

Black musicians are the most unfairly
underrated musicians of all time!
All the greats, including Elvis, Beatles, Cream,
SRV, Rolling Stones, Led Zep, were influenced by
blues and jazz played by majority of black musicians.
But, they never got the credit they deserved.
Not true at all.
BLACK MUSICIANS ARE ONE OF THE FEW GREAT GIFTS AMERICA HAS GIVEN TO THE WORLD.
JAZZ,BLUES,AND... ROCKNROLL
The best guitarist? George Benson. The best trumpeter? Wynton Marsalis. The best pianist? Art Tatum. The best saxophonist? John Coltrane. The best ...............................................................................................

Wow!
All played with just one finger!
