There’s a part of me that sheds a tear for Jamerson. Because he still doesn’t get his proper flowers. Take this song. He’s 90% of the music. Add all the instruments back and you’ll discover that they are just filler. (Sorry) Jamerson is the boss of every song he’s on! All the musicians know it. He’s the only musician that can’t be replaced. As you listen to this version you get a sense that the song is complete. You don’t even notice that the only musician is James! That’s how much of the music he’s responsible for. Honor him!
The Tempts are sounding so good and Motown could have just released this with just James Jamerson and the vocals. James Jamerson is playing the heaven and hell out of that bass!
I like this take because afterwards you can hear some group chatter followed by Paul yelling out, asking the producers to "play that little bit back now!", so they could hear it. Real studio moments. Love it!
unlinke this just to like it again. I heard this on the radio a few days ago, was reminded of the power of a great song... a song that can be reduced to just vocal and minimal instrumentation. Damn these guys were AMAZING! Thank you St James of Detroit, who watches over us and guides us every day.
The interplay between the vocals and bass is just beautiful. The two parts were recorded months apart but they sound like they’re in the same room on take ninety nine. Jamerson cutting loose in the first chorus and returning to a more supportive role in the verse would make for a binary composition until David Ruffin growls into his verse and Jamerson drops into something altogether more melancholy but still beautiful and bouncing while Eddie returns. These masters are gold dust.
I am the quintessential Temptations fan...in ALL their forms. This is INCREDIBLE! I have never heard the last 30 seconds of this song. You can tell that it actually IS the original studio recording. I really know (or thought I knew) this song. I listen to it about 50 to a 100 times a week; when I work out, when I'm running, when I'm driving, when I'm working, and when I'm relaxing. TheAstrofunky is the man! Thank u SO MUCH for posting this bruh! U just made my life a little better : )
man you really can hear Paul voice in this that raspy almost sounded like he had a key but he ain't them boys was bad oh yeah I almost forgot that's a hell of a base plan to just hear my boys acapella almost made me forget what I really was listening for
The Temps greatest song. Accapella let's you really appreciate their great voices. Davy Ruffin shines on this. Eddie Kendricks is awesome. The accapella version of this was posted for the longest time and then disappeared. What happened?
I'm just curious where you got that info... I noticed that this, as well as some other Funk Brothers instrumentals that have been released, have different basslines than the original versions, but I just assumed they were from a different takes. The bassline here is definitely more complex, really incredible.
@YouGotTimetoLaugh : actually you're right... and wrong :) bassline hasn't bee isolated from the original mix, but was played by James himself during a studio rehearsal with the Tempts :)
This is Awesome!!! Where can I find this version, with the spoken dialogue at the end. You can hear David say something to Eddie about "put a little bit of bass"...Eddie says "Hmm?", and Paul yells to the engineer, "Hey, play that little bit back!" Real moments, from the studio. Thank you to TheAstrofunky, the one who posted this song! Again, where can I get this recorded version???
Michael Williams hey I was looking online and its suppose to some sort of whole acapella album from the tempts during the ruffin era but I can't find it to purchase just the cover art
James Jamerson.!!!!!! BEST BASS PLAYER THAT EVER LIVED!!!!!!
YOU BET!
Sho you right!! Wont be another.
Sho nuff, No one and I mean NO ONE will ever come close to The awesome James Jamerson.
😭
Best ever! God stopped at James. Thats it.
James Jamerson is arguably the greatest bass player ever. That Fender Precision he used to perfection with his bass amp is top notch
No amp. Acme DI.
@@losangelesnefastvs Most of his stuff yes but it was a home made tube DI that they all plugged into.
who ever you are that obtained these a capella recordings of my all time favorite group, thank you so much. these are gems.
I just love hearing Eddie and David going at it at the end.
Don't you cry now

The Tempts are second to none
UA-cam suddenly presented these Jamerson + vocal tracks and I am IN HEAVEN. Quality -- bass dreams come true
The Tempts are sounding so good and Motown could have just released this with just James Jamerson and the vocals. James Jamerson is playing the heaven and hell out of that bass!
True True True just like this😮😮😮😮😮 🎸
This is awesome, James Jamerson matched Eddie and the Temps to perfection...I love it. I miss these guys so much...

This IS Simply Amazing.
So good bass line from James Jamerson !...

Wow that's fantastic. To my ears just the bass and vocals make it a complete recording. That's fantastic, Thank you!
Pure, sublime genius. The sheer beauty of it all.
nobody can come close to the talent this dude had even his son jr praises him for helping him in his quest to be a great bass player
David down the stretch.....WOW! He killed it!
The background vocals are spot on
This is wonderful. Sublime
The perfect example of "less is more".
Less? Jamerson is killin it!

This is dope. Jamerson plus tempts. Eddie killing it & the temptations in the bacc
MASTERPIECE...PERFECTION...EPIC...WOW
This version needs to be placed like it is on a disc.
He was a phenomenal bassist
Not just electric bass but traditional jazz upright bass. Jamerson was the Funk Brother bottom.
On Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" that bass lick was 🔥!
If there ever was any doubt who was the best falsetto ever....if this doesn't prove it nothing will...
Perfection!
In my opinion the prettiest falsetto song ever recorded
It’s like Jamerson is singing when he plays
Ayeeeeee🎉💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾SOLID💯Like A Big Bro Bro.. Detroit313
I want this version of the song on Spotify so bad!
Perfection
Because you know I'm all about THAT bass! ;-)
I'm more of a Paul Williams fan....but David simply KILLS the vocals down the stretch in this song....DAMN!
Listen to Paul asking them to play it back after they finish singing.
I Absolutely LOVE THIS!!!!
OMG THIS IS SO AWESOME I LOVE IT . THANK YOU FOR SHARING,
perfection....
man you really can hear Paul voice in this that raspy almost sounded like he had a key but he ain't them boys was bad oh yeah I almost forgot that's a hell of a base plan to just hear my boys acapella almost made me forget what I really was listening for
That david and eddie singing
Awesome Bass
Crazy timing!!!

PURE!!!
Where can I attain this acapella version, with the dialogue at the end? A rare treasure, indeed.
Standing in the shadows of Motown soundtrack it's from the documentary here on UA-cam
AMAZING!
Could there be a better combination that Eddie and David
Indeed
The Master
Wow! Awesome!

Meu mestre da arte do contrabaixo!
In the pocket!
for some reason if you try to search it on youtube it wont be located, but its back up on my channel,
Awesome!!!!
I love the fast part at 0:39
I always liked the one at 2:29 better. That little pause. Sweet

These tracks are the original funk brothers.
@@olgasmith768 You've kinda missed the point..
@YouGotTimetoLaugh : actually you're right... and wrong :) bassline hasn't bee isolated from the original mix, but was played by James himself during a studio rehearsal with the Tempts :)
I’ll subscribe for this

Ed Watkins Jr.
James is miss i wanted someone to help him in his trials and there was no one there
what trials?
Almost a religous hymn
I would have loved if the vocals were toned down and the bass bumped up.
Nah
