I’m an architect, and I’ve been using the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil since the very first model was released. The apps I would recommend you try are: - Notability (for marking PDFs. Very simple and syncs with your iPhone and Mac) - Paper (simple sketchbook-like sketching app. Can sync with iPhone and allows for very quick, iterative sketching) - Concepts (very, very powerful vector drawing app. Has scale tools and an infinite canvas)
@@30by40 I haven't done that, but the way I use the app makes it almost impossible to export and use the lines for CAD work. But that also depends on the tool you're using and the approach you take. For instance, there is a line tool that I really never use. It creates perfect, CAD-like lines. But I use other tools (like pencils, pens, highlighters, and watercolor), and my approach is using the app as a replacement for a drafting table. Meaning that I mainly draw plans/sections to scale, and sketch some ideas on the side. To me, this works really well. You can also insert measurements on the drawing, and show/hide them as well. And since I draw numerous lines on top of each other, and draw some less-perfect lines, this makes it very messy if it gets exported to CAD. The app is really extensive and can accommodate multiple ways of work. I would recommend you try it using different approaches (sketches, measured drawings, drafting with the line tool) and see what works. It has great tools you won't find anywhere else. Examples are: - There are masking tools (like an eraser, but it does not erase the lines beneath them, it just hides them so you can always delete the mask) - There is a true eraser that literally cuts the line, so that if you have one line you can cut it into two and each one is a separate object (the app treats each continuous part as an object that you can manipulate. It's interesting) - A nudge tools allows you to manipulate lines by nudging them. Very nice for perfecting curved lines And much, much more. I can explain it all day but you've really got to test it. It's very deep. Cheers, Husain

yea, i been saying the same things as you. Nobody ever talks a bout how awesome Concepts is and android is indeed terrible when it comes to having good quality apps and pencil support.
For those who aren't apple based (small crowd, I know) Microsoft's Surface works really well also. I was back and forth between an iPad pro and the surface. For not much more I went with the surface. The main reason being is is that, unlike the iPad, I can run full programs on it and not just an app version. This was great for me at the time since I was also in the market for a computer. So I have a fully functional laptop (that handles SketchUp, cad, and Revit well) and a tablet.
I will say the main drawback to it though is that since you are running full versions of the programs, boot ups take a little longer for heavier ones like PS which I use to draw concept plans.
But the pen of the surface wasn’t as great as the apple one. Beside from that it run well for those app for architect. Still for those who want to expand their knowledge with digital i would recommend IPad but for only architect and being able to do thing without dragging your laptop with you then surface to me.
@@Lilix-nm1xh I could agree. The pencil of the iPad definitely feels much better, and without looking it up, I was to say had a higher dpi response (maybe). And it's been handy on the occasion where i needed access to heavier capabilities while in the field. The fluidity of the Apple OS is hard to get past though :) I think UI is something apple will rule in for quite some time.
I'm with you on the digital transition and reduced paper usage. I have been using my surface book for a few years both as the tablet when out on site and as my main workstation using a hub and additional monitor. Keep up the good work!
I have gotten the Paper Like 2 recently. I can tell a bit of difference from the first gen. I would definitely recommend it over glass... but only if you draw/write a lot on the iPad.
Being Architects, we really need portable and immediate mobile work stations like these since carrying the plans are really inconvenient sometimes 😅 Love you video, Architect!
This video is such an inspiration to me. I feel as a architect student, some of these apps are everything as you mention, but also budget friendly. How many rolls of trace does a course require? When you run out, you’re off to buy more. But digitally, you can just open a new file and continue rather than a whole new page and always having to buy, buy and buy more supplies!
It’s like I’m watching myself but whiter and cooler. I’m 28 and there’s a lot that’s been going on with my life but the most prevalent that’s been at the top is extremely detail oriented. So much so that I want to create new ways to organize myself and thoughts. Architecture and plan drawing process is what I landed on. If only my father, architect himself, was a good and patient teacher.
You sir, are top quality! A dying breed!from your workflow, time management, presentation, review to editing ALL elite status. Thank you for sharing. You inspire my inner architect and creative self. Cheers.
I'm still asking to myself if i really want to go digital also on sketching. This is as much hard as substitute books with ebooks. It's good, yes but it's not the same. Good for you that you are liking the process.
Unbelievable video. The attention to detail to the editing and content is amazing. Aside from the fact that I will actually use the information you provided (as a designer), the video was thoroughly calming to watch. Thank you sir for setting the bar for young architects. Please keep them coming..
No matter how much other reviews I watch, I allways come back to your video. Thank you so much, I’m an Architecture student considering to buy an iPad and your video clear me all my doubts!
I'm not an architect, but I've wanted to introduce the iPad to my architect friends in a way that'd be useful to them. This video has been a great perspective.
I'm a professional designer with many large scale projects under my belt - from elevation views of exhibits to minute 3-D modeled parts. The i-pad is a GREAT and must have tool. But it is only part of an inventory of tools! I love hand sketching and that's what attracted me to my current line of work. Learning digital drawing tech is a MUST - as a designer you have to learn and know it. Put it in your priorities as you need it but having a working understanding and aptitude is required of you in today's market. I think this is what is being communicated in this vid.
I am not an architect, but I sketch and need to remodel stuff. Also new to the iPad world. This was a very well conceived and delivered video. You kept me going through the entire thing, even though some of the apps will not apply To my skill sets. Congratulations! If you are as good an architect as you are at communicating on video, I would love to work with you one day! Well done.
I tried architecture on my friend's tablet. As cool as pressure levels and brushes are, it didn't come close to the feeling of a pencil on paper. Pencil+paper is just so....so satisfying
I had just this discussion this week about getting an IPad and move my sketching, client meeting and revision onto the electronic side. It's on point that you did this video. Sound promissing ! You should do a follow up in 2 or 3 months. Keep up the good work !
i'm not an architect or designer, i already own and use an ipad pro with apple pencil ... and i'm still watching this whole video because it's such a pleasure! :) also like the way you talk and explain. thanks a lot!
I recently purchased the ipad pro too. I found really usefull the app Affinity Designer, as a editing tool for vector and pixel files (like adobe illustrator and simple Photoshop in one app). And its a very good price too. Both pc and ipad. Also for desktop version, I recommend the affinity publisher (like adobe indesign) and if you want to edit later in ipad the app affinity designer opens the same files and does a great job. Check them out. :)
Hi there, interesting to read that you know started to understand the value of a drawing tablet. Few more apps for you to look into: Concepts - I find this as a designer seriously beating overhyped pro-create. Instead of Procreate SketchBook (Free) is also a very useful app. You mentioned morpholio which is pretty good also with its AR to sketch idea. But I always go back to concepts. Regarding 3D CAD look at Shar3D - how SketchUp should have been. CAD models made on site can be send later to autocad etc. No more taking paper notes for dimensions etc ... Probably you know there is also a mobile version of autocad for iOS.
I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but at 7:56 found it strange how comfortably this man one hands the 11 inch iPad Pro using his pinky and thumb. Dont get me wrong I myself have what i would consider large hands, but this man makes it look like an iPad mini!
Thank you so much your video is very useful. I'm an architect myself and i found it very useful to use goodnots to make notes in a documents, it's either your meeting contract, plan drawings, etc. as you can out your pdf file directly to a single documents and combined them.

I can't thank you enough. Exactly the video and the person I've been looking for. I got talked out of architecture by the Dean, got a business degree. And here I am 20 years later full of regret, got the opportunity to work as a designer / Project Manager for a GC because of work I've done flipping. I had no training whatsoever- just clients. I've literally self-taught/ youtubed all of it. Online Revit. I needed this so bad. I wanted a mentor or some training or best practices. Thank you.
Archi student and photographer here, what do you think about the new pro model? Are lidar, cursor, and more performance game changer? It really feels like it's made for my needs.
I'm not even interested in those things ... but I'm in love with the idea that how tech could touch every aspect of our lives and makes it easier and more flexible
Great presentation, I'm architect. Just curios how is the quality of a rendering or an image when you present to the client with a "matte scree protector". I was wondering if there other screen protectors out there that deliver the same sketchy texture but does not loose the clarity?
Finally to see you again. Haha, long time, I miss his face. I went back my old interest, the first interest is architecture. So I think this is might be help again
When you want to see all your open tabs/ apps, swipe up but do it slowly and keep your finger on the screen. Pull your finger up to about halfway. When you want to see your dock make a very small gesture. Only a small flick from the bottom. When you want to go to your home screen, make a very strong gesture. Take your finger and pull it up between halfway and three quarters of the screen.

I appreciate that this man is very genuine about his work....
First of all, you really NEED a matt screenprotector. You get a more paper like feel. Couldnt do it whithout one
totally. drawing on naked glass was an awful experience.
great idea!
Bruh, an architect really reviews an iPad for 20mins. What a thinker! All questions answered I'm buying it and waiting for March Event, thank you!!
U are the best. U taught so much over the past 3 years. Thank you!
Best organization of thoughts on a subject I have seen in a while. thank you.
You sir, are top quality! A dying breed!from your workflow, time management, presentation, review to editing ALL elite status. Thank you for sharing. You inspire my inner architect and creative self. Cheers.
That's what I call an interesting and, above all, educative content. Thank you
Finally a video that shows a real use for this amazing machine.
I’ve been thinking of getting an iPad Pro for a while now and this was really helpful in that process. Thank you!
I’m a Construction Manager and Estimator and continue to find new ways to use my iPad at the small company where I work, including Notion! It rocks.
Thank you for encouraging me to go back to my interior design career. I was extremely discouraged by spoiled teachers.
The aesthetics of this video are quite refreshing. Like, Im not even an arquitect but I put these videos as background content
There is a paper like screen protector that some of my friends have and is much nicer than the glass
He mentions it in the video. It’s done by Paper Like.
Thanks for sharing your experience within the iPad pro and Architectural sector. You almost answered every question that I had about these
Such a great video. Calm, dark mode, certain perspective as an architect without biased sponsorship. Just really enjoyable!
i'm not an architect or designer, i already own and use an ipad pro with apple pencil ... and i'm still watching this whole video because it's such a pleasure! :) also like the way you talk and explain. thanks a lot!
What are your go to brushes on Procreate? I’m struggling to find the best brushes for an architecture student.
Love the smiles and laughter at the close. Keep up the great work.
No matter how far tech goes.
A pen/pencil and a sketchbook are something on another level.
Hi there, interesting to read that you know started to understand the value of a drawing tablet.
Few more apps for you to look into:
Concepts - I find this as a designer seriously beating overhyped pro-create.
I'm not currently an architect but when I graduate school I'm going to start studying for it and having these kind of videos are super helpful
17:55 i recommend notablility sir..
I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but at 7:56 found it strange how comfortably this man one hands the 11 inch iPad Pro using his pinky and thumb. Dont get me wrong I myself have what i would consider large hands, but this man makes it look like an iPad mini!
I’m an Industrial Design student and my iPad + Procreate is an everyday tool.
You seriously inspired a student today. I hope you know you saved a life. Thank you. I was in a rut.
"well I'm just getting old", that statement really makes my day! 😂
thanks, really.
Thank you so much your video is very useful. I'm an architect myself and i found it very useful to use goodnots to make notes in a documents, it's either your meeting contract, plan drawings, etc. as you can out your pdf file directly to a single documents and combined them.
Are your permit drawings printed with red text? If so, how is that received by officials?
👍d question!!!
Larry Tinnin yes, it’s never been an issue
30X40 Design Workshop I might try it, I like the way it looks, really really enjoy your recording interacting with clients! , need a bunch more, it’s better than tv!
@@larrytinnin3357 I've actually been doing this in a BLUE color based on Eric's inspiration and I love it, looks great, not TOO expensive, but very effective
We recently started showing our grid lines in red. Very helpful for us, but the city of Portland rejected our drawings at intake because of the color.
This is sensational!!! As an Architect Technician, this is a guilty pleasure of mine.. Just need to make that jump from Paper.
I don’t care if I need it or not what’s important is that I couldn’t afford it :(
save your money, limit your expense
You can buy tab s2 but this is an android so maybe u dont like it
Then fix that problem, get to work
I can't thank you enough. Thank you.
And yes your video style is fire.
Archi student and photographer here, what do you think about the new pro model? Are lidar, cursor, and more performance game changer? It really feels like it's made for my needs.
I’m currently at the beginning of my architecture career. I’m taking history of Architecture and I can’t wait until I start sketching and creating.
I was watching on my iPad, when he said Hey Siri, mine went off too lol
I'm not even interested in those things ... but I'm in love with the idea that how tech could touch every aspect of our lives and makes it easier and more flexible
"I don't like it"
proceeds to make a video sketching with it.
An architect speaks..
Cunning - direct - efficiency - detail - persuasive.
Me subscribing
19:56 Those features do work well... I just cant really get them to work either that well hahah
Absolutely it’s a great tool for many things. Get one for sure. I can’t live without it now
Great presentation, I'm architect.
The "Hey Siri" @ 13:25 activated MY Siri! hahaha
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, AND I AGREE THAT THE IPAD SERVES AS AN EXCELLENT TOOL FOR THE ARCHITECT AND FOR IMPROVING PRACTICALITY AT WORK
@SpiderMan 62 HE CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH HOW EXCELLENTLY THE IPAD SERVES AS A TOOL FOR THE ARCHITECT
this guy is obviously a very practical man. Notice that he doesnt get products simply because its new. case and point is the phone and laptop he is using
Great video, always appreciate your stuff! What background paper textures are you using for your procreate drawings?
Thanks for mentioning the laminated glass. No one seems to talk about that detail. Also the preference for the smaller 11", very useful comments.
Your videos are very professional and well done! Best I found on the web so far. Thanks for your work and your help to the designers community! For iPad Pro, I like also SketchBook by Autodesk. I bought Procreate to give it a shot, but it seems pretty much the same, and it's free! :)
The timing of that log breaking at 8:03 was impeccable
Let me know what background image in Procreate when you release the custom procreate brushes, please!!!
