Thank you SO MUCH for this fantastic video! I have been struggling with MailChimp since I joined in March last year, only managing to send straight emails. I set up an "automated" email last year, but recently discovered it wasn't being sent, and had no idea why. I watched your video and it all became very clear. I have subscribed because your information is clear and concise, and very relevant. Thanks again.
@@LarrySnow I'm having the same issue, I set it all up then signed up on my website to my email list. On Mailchimp it shows that I joined but I never received the automated email that I made. Ugh!!

Hi Paul, you're welcome. I'm glad the videos were helpful. Yes, automation series are no more on the free plan. You can set up single trigger automation on the free plan.
Has Mailchimp changed its layout? None of the above shows in my mailchimp account. I have updated to Standard plan for $20 ... thank you Larry for any reply. I am just overwhelmed ... : )
Hi Sonia - Yes, Mailchimp has just about removed the old classic automation process. However, with a standard plan, you do have access to Customer Journeys.
hi larry, thank you for doing this video, it is very helpful and clear. I was wondering, are automation available for the free account, or only for the paid account? it seems as though mailchimp went through a huge overhaul in the last few months. Thanks, I appreciate the help
Hi Aleem. Yes, Mailchimp restructured services and pricing plans. I believe with the free account you get one single step automation email like a welcome email for example for new subscribers.
For the gpdr I have to give an option to the people if they only want tips, only want commercials or both. Normally they can tick this nicely at the white box. When I send a welcome email I can give people the choice with this white box and how do I do that. I understand how I make a welcome email, but not how I give people a choice in this. I really only want to send the welcome email to people who are also open to the commercial actions of my company. Thanks for your reply. I have the free version of mailchimp
GDPR options are only available through the signup form or through a special email template provided by Mailchimp. So you should be collecting GDPR options via the signup form for new subscribers. From there you segment/group/tag subscribers and send specific campaigns based on the subscriber's GDPR selection. For subscribers who already in your audience list you can use the special themed template with GDPR options.
hi there. and thank you for this video. i wanted to inquire about how to set up a "join mail list campaign" on my website and ofcourse tie that in with mail chimp?
[A doubt about the GDPR] In an opt-in page created with MC, a user can decide not to accept advertising actions. Quite right? When I create a personalized audience on Facebook (including those who have visited my site) how can I exclude those who have not accepted advertising actions in the Opt-in page? I do not know if I'm asking you the question in the right place. I hope in your clarification. Thank you and good evening. Roberto
Hi Roberto, first I would make sure you have the option for Online Advertising as a GDPR Option in Mailchimp, second I believe you can segment out those who have selected the accept to use their data in Online Advertising using tags/segments, lastly, be sure that your privacy policy includes information on all of the above. This FAQ from Mailchimp might help - mailchimp.com/help/gdpr-faq/

Thanks for the video, one question though, how can I add the person's first name that just signed up to be included in the automated email ie. Welcome Anne! I just signed up so don't know MailChimp at all, but saw this was a feature in AWeber. Thanks!
After adding a text block, click inside to edit, from the right panel, click Merge tags from the block edit menu, then click the "First Name" from the list. The merge tag will be added in the text block. Be sure to use Preview mode to test, and switch on enable live tags to see the first names of people in your preview.
Hi! Quick question about when I select a campaign name then "select a list". If this is a welcome email campaign for a new group of people that is subscribing for the first time, how can I select a list? Isn't a 'list' a group of contacts that already exists? Because I'm seeing my already existing lists of contacts to select from. I'm confused about that. Thanks.
Hi - to send a welcome email to new subscribers you use automation. Under the automate tab, click Email, then click the Email New Subscribers box. After clicking the box, select the list that will receive the automated welcome email. The rest will be familiar with the design and such. When all is good to go you click the start sending button.
Can a business that has an app use mailchimp? For example the person makes a new account on their app and they get a welcome email. Can that be from mailchimp? And another question can they also do verification emails where the person has to click a button through their email to know it’s them. To be able to sign up properly

Not exactly sure but I think the easiest would be to pause or delete the automation during the merge then set up new automation for those imports from list 2.
Why does it make you want to pay for the automation now? The screen is a little different. It doesnt allow me to "add email" after the first automation one was sent. Has this changed since Feb 2019?
Hello, thanks for the valuable video! Can you please show us (or answer me) how to create a data-based email automation? For examble: I want to send several emails before a specific date and aftar that date too. I know that I have to add to the audience "date field". But how exactly do I determine the date before which I want to send the emails? In the "Audience fields and |MERGE| tags" section there is a field called "Default merge tag value", do I have to fill in the date there? Thank you in advance!
If you have the ability to schedule campaign emails you can schedule (day and time) out all the the emails you need. For Classic Automation date based - you'll need to add a date field to your audience, and give it a name. The Trigger is what sets when the email is sent. If you have access to Classic Automation series, you can then schedule automated emails after the first automation. If it were me on a paid account with access to Journeys, I would use the Journeys that have more flexibility with automation including wait times along with the same automations found in Classic automation. So, to wrap up: 1. Use campaign emails to schedule pre and post a date 2. Classic Automation date based must include a Date field in your Audience Fields. Free accounts must do a Single Classic Automation at a time, paid accounts can do a Series of emails 3. Customer Journeys - highly recommend, has increased flexibility over Classic Automation

Have you tried a time delay as a journey point? With the tag as the starting point, after the contact has the tag applied, wait a certain amount of days before sending the next email in the journey. Then wait again, then email, etc.
@@LarrySnow Hello Larry, hope you're doing well. Thank you for your answer. Yes, I have. Time delay is about sending emails after a specific event, not before. After receiving a tag, joining an audience, clicking a link or not clicking, etc. If you can't answer my question, don't worry - no one can.
Hey Larry, need help. So, before I mess up and get annoying with my contacts, I wanted to verify something with you. After I automate my campaign, is there a way I can just send to the my new subscribers that opt in just once. i'm asking because i'm seeing Mon-Sunday and i'm scared even if I pick one day, it'll send out every week on that day. Please help!
Welcome new subscribers automation will send a welcome campaigns to only new subscribers during the days and times you set. As each new subscriber gets added they are queued up in the automation. The automation is set to run Mon-Sun. For example, if you just have one email in your automation it will be sent to new subscribers as they join just once Mon.-Sun. If you have a series of emails in your welcome automation, new subscribers only get each email once on the day and time specified.
Hi Larry ! I need your help. I created un automation but I can start only with audience management and using the tag for starting. So ... my problem is that in the condition I chose only Monday between 9 am to 5 pm. Any mail was sent up to 12 am. Then I changed hours for sending at 2.30 pm ( I thought all mail starting all together) Just 6. What am I wrong ? thanks
I'm sure not why that would be happening. I do know that the time settings are based on your local time zone. For example, if you're on the West coast and you set the time to go out at 2:30 PM, that is Pacific Time. If a subscriber is on the East Coast, they would get the email at 11:30 AM. If you have a paid account, TimeWarp removes the Time Zone difference.
I have a landing page (where I give away something for free). Once the customer signs up, they get my (automated) newsletter emails. However, now I am giving away another freebie (to send a different email campaign to them) and have made another landing page. Do I have to create a new audience?
Nice tutorial. Before watching this video I have seen your videos about Groups, Segments, and Tags. I collect leads through Facebook and ad in mailchimp manually. Please guide that if I ad 10 contacts in an existing list and apply them a tag let say 'New Subscribers' . After that I set an automation and send let say 3 emails after 2 days of gap each. Then after one week if I add 20 more contacts in that same 'New Subscribers' tag. So the 3 email that I have automated will be sent to only 20 news subscribers or over all 30 contacts which exist in our tag called 'New Subscribers'? Once I sent 3 emails to 10 previous subscribers, I don't want to send them 3 emails again. Simply I do not want repetition. How to do that? Please guide.
I don't think it will repeat it should only send to the new people added to the automation (added to the queue). Once the automation ends for the original set they shouldn't receive another automation email unless you add another email to the sequence.
Your video is great, however do you have the paid version of mailchimp? My screen doesnt look much like yours and I cant add more triggers from this email
Love your material! I want to ask you a question about automations. I created a landing page using the free version of mailchimp. I chose a template that has a product to purchase. I completed personalizing my template and connected the product to square. Following the next prompts there is a follow up automation that looks like a welcome email if the page was a squeeze page only. How to I guaranteed that if the person makes a purchase I send the appropriate email and they don't get a welcome email. I ask because free accounts do not get access to tech support. And that the clarity of the free version of mailchimp is... Not what I'd like. I guess that comes with paying for it. Any info you might have to guide me would be greatly appreciated.
With the landing page, I believe you can set the "thank you/welcome message" to an off-site URL such as your website. That seems to me, the better choice. Also, be sure to add a tag so you know who in your audience made a purchase.
So my Mailchimp screen looks different. I have auto email going out when people sign up for my newsletter. I just added a monthly subscription and I need a welcome letter with access information to automatically send to those new customers. I would like to know how to fully automate that. It just happens when they sign up at the website. I already have a plug in working for the newsletter. How do I make it work for the monthly purchase? Can I create this as a separate audience? How??? Thanks for your help!
Why it may be different is that when I recorded the video I was using a paid plan where you can setup several automation emails series at once. This is not possible with the Mailchimp free plan. Also, if you are using the free plan you can only have one audience list. What eCommerce solution are using for the monthly subscription? Usually the eCommerce solution (like WooCommerce and WooCommerce subscriptions) handles communicating access/login information.
So I can set up different audiences with a paid Mailchimp? I'm using stripe as my gateway. I work with a web guy to do the heavy lifting and I'm learning more as I go so I don't know what plug in we're using.
How to get to classic automation is slightly different in that you have to select Automations tab, then click Create, and from the drop-down select Class automation. However, creating an automation series is exactly the same.
how can i edit my download link that says its expired with a new link ? i go under list view and click the only set up email with that link but i cant find the place where i paste the new link. it allows me to change everything else like the logo and such but i cant see the link edit thing
Is the link in a text box or a button? If you're using a text box - clicking on the text block, the editor should open on the right, in the editor click on the link you'd like to change. In the menu choices above click the icon that looks like a chain link. That should open the current URL. Delete the existing URL, then add the new one. Click Insert. If you're using the Button option is much more straight forward. Click on the button box, from the button editor on the left, under Content, remove the existing URL, then enter your new URL. Click Save and Close.
Hi Larry, how? On my website I have an ebook people can download. In order for them to do that, they fill a form (wordpress pluggin "Easy Forms for Mailchimp"), which adds them to my Mailchimp audience, with a specific Tag. In Mailchimp, I have an automation based on the contact receiving that Tag, sending the user an email with the link for the ebook. My problem is if the user misplaces the ebook or the email with the ebook link. If he goes to my website, and tries do download the ebook once more, he will not receive the email, because, on the mailchimp audience, he already has that Tag, so no email is sent. I want for the user to receive that email once more. How can I do that? What trigger will allow me to do that?
In the landing page options add a tag. When someone joins via the landing page they'll be given that tag. In automation use the tag automation then set the trigger, etc.
@@LarrySnow Thanks. That is what I would think but I can not find any way to edit the list attached to the email automation. Seems like it would be simple. I did replicate the automation and was able to choose a different list.
Is anyone else not able to run an automated series on the free plan anymore? What's weird is I manage two separate accounts and one lets me run an automated welcome series and the other says I have to upgrade. "Automation series are available with Standard and Premium plans." is the message I receive.
Go to Audience->Settings-> Audience Name and defaults - at the very bottom you'll see "New subscriber notifications" enter an email address to receive notifications and whether you want daily or for each sign-up.

I had a landing page with mail chimp how do I create an automated email so when people type in their email address and first name they get a “welcome to the mailing list” email immediately. Can you please add how to send the automation only to a segment of your list who has a certain tag?
This should help - ua-cam.com/video/t6nx2_m_leY/v-deo.html
@@LarrySnow It could be. Thanks larry
I have a landing page (where I give away something for free). Once the customer signs up, they get my (automated) newsletter emails.
However, now I am giving away another freebie (to send a different email campaign to them) and have made another landing page. Do I have to create a new audience?
Hi there! If you're using Mailchimp landing pages, then no, you don't need another audience list.
@@LarrySnow Thank you for your guidance.
You’re welcome.
Hi! What plan do you have? I have the free one right now and have been making single automations
At the time of this video, it was a paid legacy plan.
@@LarrySnow Is the automation series not possible now with a free plan?
@@vishved9838 correct, unfortunately.
Your video is great, however do you have the paid version of mailchimp? My screen doesnt look much like yours and I cant add more triggers from this email
Yes, this is the paid version. The Free version only allows you to do one step automation.
@@LarrySnow Is there a particular version yo need to pay for? I dont get trigger option for emails on my package
@@LarrySnow I have built all the templates they suggested.
@@bonvivantcheftori2384 Yes - paid plan allows more audiences.
@@LarrySnow Thank you.
Do you have 2021 update for automation email sequence? Thanks sir
How to get to classic automation is slightly different in that you have to select Automations tab, then click Create, and from the drop-down select Class automation. However, creating an automation series is exactly the same.
@@LarrySnow thanks! 🥰
@@LarrySnow but how to connect it to manychat?

how can i edit my download link that says its expired with a new link ? i go under list view and click the only set up email with that link but i cant find the place where i paste the new link. it allows me to change everything else like the logo and such but i cant see the link edit thing
Can you also send an automated email to already registered members introducing the new one?
In short, yes.
What trigger will allow me to do that?
hi! do you have a video on how to make an automated email when someone signs up on a landing page? I'm having difficulty
In the landing page options add a tag. When someone joins via the landing page they'll be given that tag. In automation use the tag automation then set the trigger, etc.
@@LarrySnow Got it!! Thank you!!!
@@beautifulness14 You're welcome!
Wow thank you!!
Larry, How can I change the list I originally chose for the email automation?
You’ll need to Pause the automation, then you can edit the automation and change the options.
Mailchimp has restructured its plans and services. For the free plan, you no longer have multiple step automation.
helo, is this the way you can do it with a free account within Mailchimp?
Unfortunately, you can only have one automated email with the free version. This video was recorded before Mailchimp changed its features and plans.
How can I activate optin report emails for each new subscriber?
Go to Audience->Settings-> Audience Name and defaults - at the very bottom you'll see "New subscriber notifications" enter an email address to receive notifications and whether you want daily or for each sign-up.
I didn't get trigger, it just goes straight to the design page to set up the email :(
Are you on the free plan?
Also, make sure you selected automated as your campaign.
This automation series doesn't work anymore for free plan!
Unfortunately no. Mailchimp has restructured its plans and services. For the free plan, you no longer have multiple step automation.
You may want to look at Mailerlite.
How do I create the list since mail chimp took out the page/section for it?
Click the Audience navigation tab, if you don't have an audience aka list yet, you'll be asked to create one.
Larry Snow Thankyou 😊.
I’ve been trying to figure this out for a while
Larry Snow i have another question.
I had a landing page with mail chimp how do I create an automated email so when people type in their email address and first name they get a “welcome to the mailing list” email immediately. I went to the audience tab but it’s only sending emails to people already subscribed
@@joy1875 Within the landing page, click on the email address block, from settings on the right, click content (should be on it already), there should be a Send To section, from the drop-down list select web address. Input a thank you page URL that you can create on your website.
Larry Snow I can’t find the address block. I think I’m going to delete the landing page and create a new one. This is very confusing
