Check the grooves on the belt and see if there are chunks missing out of it..maybe, only time you save fuel is by not idling so if you have the option get an electronic apu. When you do have to drive you don't have to speed everywhere. I'm gov'd at 74 but I usually do 60-65 and I get around 8-8.5 mpg depending on what I haul...you havnt gotten to the mtns yet, wait until you get in the Virginia and west Virginia area, if you're coming through Central around 29 between Oklahoma and North Dakota let me know, lunch is on me. I'll be running this route the next couple weeks
Actually turning the ac on is more efficient because if you open the windows you create more drag thus slowing you down so the engine has to work harder and burn more fuel , So in conclusion closings the windows and turning the AC on is more efficient , And one last thing to remember ( less drag + right driving techniques = less fuel consumption )
Today's AC units are much more efficient than back in the day. There is barely any difference at all. There was actually a mythbusters episode on that topic. Run the AC and be comfortable.

Yes and no. When your moving down the highway or driving really anything where you are stepping on the gas the AC motor kicking on should make a very very minute impact on the fuel consumption. HOWEVER, when you stop and sit and idle, yes you will use more fuel as your RPMs jump up to compensate. This passage comes from the EPA..... "According to the EPA, using your car's AC can be more efficient while driving at highway speeds than leaving the windows open. The main reason is open windows elevate aerodynamic drag, causing the engine to work harder and burn more fuel."

Hey man I’m from flordia what did you study for the combination general knowledge etc I have the manual from the dmv but do you have any other tips thanks
As a matter of fact, it is rare for A/C to take an effect of gas mileage on any vehicle (generally less than a 0.09 mpg difference, regardless of size of compressor.) But as mentioned before, it is best to keep your windows down on city streets and up with the A/C going on the highway/interstate. Most of the drivers I know mainly go by that as they can hear what's going on outside with their truck a little better just in case, I don't know about you. Hope this message reaches you well and keep up the amazing work!! Love your videos!!
Another bit of info as I watch through, the compressor for your A/C is driven by a serpentine belt. It does however use power from the battery to run the fans that blow the air through the vents.
May I suggest(if you have the money) going big and getting the 3 thou because you truly don't know whether or not you're gonna end up needing it some day.
I am so glad you are now happy in the job you are in. In everything you said or showed, that information that you are now happy will be the driving success. Happy for you.

Fuel is usually cheaper between Texas/Louisiana. That’s where most of the refineries are, so it’s less travel to refill those pumps, which equals cheaper fuel…
Good to see you OTR. I had that light come on my truck and then the check engine light came on a day later. It was for the nox sensor if I spelled it right. The mechanic are waiting for the truck part to come in. I"m in a loaner truck now.

You can buy spare magnetic mounts and use the double sided 3m tape to mount in sleeper area as well. I mean you’ll end up doing what fits your needs, just a suggestion. From personal use this case w magnetic mounts is nice I have one in my car as well, makes it easy to place and remove phone.
"I'm gonna need to ge this tire changed soon"... No kid.. you need to change that tire reight NOW. That truck shouldn't move another inch on that chewed up steer tire. You blow that thing out and that's no joke. Not to mention, the MASSIVE fine you will get on a DOT inspection!
damn i saw lots of trucks for sale at just before half million miles .. alot.. wonder why i used to drive 40' FB gooseneck 4x4 manual dually when i was younger
one thing your truck needs is a dash cam, there are alot of scammers out there, insurance scammers that will hit your truck and blaim it on you, so a dash cam will be handy to have for those types of drivers, its strange that a company asks a company driver to pay 50% of fuel cost, never seen a company do that before, Another good pre trip item to check is make sure noone pulled trailer pin, cause ive seen drivers not check it go to pull out and their trailer just drops
I love this video and videos like this because if I have to go to that location it will look familiar to me and I’ll feel a little more comfortable about where I’m going. Thanks for sharing.
I get bored quickly so OTR is the best. I used to be local but I had no need to be home. I prefer the western half of the US though. The east coast has such a high damn population density.
Damn you’re just like me. I started otr then worked 1 year local and it didn’t feel right having to drive to work. I also prefer to drive out west (except the winter time) which then I’ll stay in the TRUE mid-west like Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska, Colorado also as long as it’s east of Denver.
A/C units mechanically run off the the engine and create a minor drag on motor components, sleeper A/C’s are powered from electrical or separate generators and/or cables,…right? 🤔
My father would run his truck at 61/62mph on highway to save hella gas. He would run ac when it was too hot or run with ac off while he was driving and use ac when he shut down to rest
Of course the fridge and AC will use some of your Diesel. They use energy and the only energy source of your truck is Diesel... The battery is charged by the alternator which is powered by the engine. I get that you'd want a fridge in your truck, maybe you can get a smaller one if you're concerned about gas mileage.
What's up bro sometimes you should stop if you got the time to get something to eat especially out-of-state food if you haven't tried it maybe good content👍🏾 I'm coming from Charlotte North Carolina
AC off won't save you fuel, not breaking so much will do, just plan ahead better so you don't have to use the accelerator too much. You seem to be doing really well for an 8month old driver, 16 years ago I was just like you. Keep going, you're doing fine.
Bro love the content! I think you should post more often... a recommendation I have is to do something more interactive with viewers... like show you making food and getting ready for bed and watching tv and shit... if that makes sense... but keep up the good work!
Man I miss OTR local for me gets boring Iocal I remember for my reset depending where I'm at I go explore the city around take a uber and go to a restaurants and check the city around. I was in New York for my reset once and I when to time Square and even central park there is a zoo in there when to check it out too . Lol fun times man I hated staying in the truck party one time in Newark NJ too hit the bars out there too lol
It’s been some time so I’m sure you got yourself a hard hat. Should also get yourself a set of FR coveralls. Everyone in my plant, including truckers that come in, are required to wear FR clothing.
@@chez8239 just food for thought next time you go to a plant. We usually have a spare set for them when they don’t have any, but they take their fair share of 💩 when it happens
Trucks GPS does not works in NY Metro area, if you are driving on the I -95 Cross Bronx area stay in middle lane all time is the best way to drive in New York Metro area
Best advice that can be givin right here DO NOT Rely on your truck gps at all in the city. Trip plan a day ahead you won’t have time to once your in it’s too late 😂
Thanks for the video, man! You’re always entertaining 👊🏻 If your company tries to send you to the Doe Run Recycling Center in Boss, MO- on top of the Mark Twain national forest.....don’t walk away~ RUN!!!!!! 🤣 It takes 3 1/2 hours to drive up all the tiny weaving narrow hilly roads to get there. Who wants to do that- esp when I’m paid by the mile right now. So, I spent 7 hrs driving 60 miles....beyond ridiculous.
Lmao. I’ve been to Doe Run. It was a HazMat load. So I got a little xtra$. The road was narrow with ditches on each side. You gotta have skills to brave that terrain. Smack dab in the middle of no where.
One thing about Love's, PFJ and TA/Petro truck stops is there's a good chance you're gonna get clean, solid, and quality fuel. Those mom and pop operations will fuck your shit up from what I've heard when it comes to fuel.
Open windows = drag means you use more fuel aircon switched on till its cold then off then on again when it starts getting warm again will be much better
On a normal vehicle, the A/C is belt driven from the Engine itself. If its the same on a truck (AKA not a roof mounted unit) yeah it's gonna rob a couple mpg.
One hundred percent support bro, if folks have a different opinion than you it doesn't mean hate. In my opinion you jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire going to a OTR company with old trucks or trucks over 500K miles. You could have done better bro and that's no hate, 50% of fuel and you're not even leasing bro. First red flag. There will be many more to come as you ease in.
@@chez8239 Hell yeah I know what you mean. $1K is easy to brake if you're managing your clock correctly and running hard with no brakes along with all the food and water you'll need already in the truck. You'll get it eventually. The more miles you can squeeze into a drive shift the more loads you are available to run. The more loads you're able to get to the shipper early and grab another, the more money you can squeeze into a single check. I recommend you check out Trucker Browns channel to get a feel of the kind of truck driver it takes to push $2K average at the worst companies.
@@chez8239 I aslo forgot, going home frequently also hurts your check, most companies want you to be out 4 weeks minimum but they won't tell you that because they'll be asking to send you loads with more miles and tighter runs which means more money. Most companies really want you to stay out 45 days or more. OTR is hard on folks that get home sick. My wife and I do 3 month's on the road and 3 weeks off teaming.
Running air conditioning will not make any notable difference in fuel use . wind resistance from Windows down will. Heard you say truck has 800 thousand miles on it. For you to not run an ELD it has to be a 99 or older. That truck would have over 2 million miles on it. I am retired from driving now and enjoy watching you beginning your career. Also I have never heard of an employee paying for half of the fuel costs. I would be wary of that kind of deal for many reasons. Best of luck to you.
Good shit, love all these videos man. Definitely motivated me more to pursue getting my class A. I got interested in your vids because I saw you were here in Jurupa where I’m from lol
If you're in socal there's a good school with a really good rate in Bakersfield. No permit $2k, permit $1600 I believe. Golden pacific truck driving school is the name. Got my license through them 5 years ago. They teach you all you need to know and will answer any questions you have. That license will pay for itself very quickly.
I enjoy your content. But I hope you changed that steer tire. If any part of that tire is below 4/32 tread depth dot can pull you out of service: plus steer tire blow out are no joking matter.
Hey, man! Quick question: Do you still live in CA? If so, I hope all your stuff is alright with all these wildfires going on! Sending love from Germany :D
About the AC. You don't really save that much (if any) by turning off the ac. Assuming you are saving fuel for a milage bonus as a company driver. You should do your companies math because at Schneider I made .02 per mile if I hit the fuel milage but if I said screw fuel milage and floored it then I could get more miles which heavily outweighed the fuel bonus. Also I didn't have an apu so not idling the truck south of Cali was torture and made the fuel milage bonus nearly impossible. You might as well be comfortable if there is a possibility that u won't hit ur bonus
Do drivers who get paid mileage, get paid for all miles, even the ones going off course to get food and such? Or are they paid for only map miles from point a to point b?
Well, I assume that you've already purchased your inverter but 2,000 w is all you need. A microwave only needs about 1500 peaquats when it first turns on then it will go down to about a thousand or 1,200

What's up bro sometimes you should stop if you got the time to get something to eat especially out-of-state food if you haven't tried it maybe good content👍🏾 I'm coming from Charlotte North Carolina
I should be sleep but can’t stop watching you vids bro💯💯💯 learning a lot.
I appreciate you! and im glad I can teach some knowledge (:
Careful on that back you only get 2 free pull ups😂😂 hope I sparked some memories
oh dont remind me bro😂😂😂👍
AC off won't save you fuel, not breaking so much will do, just plan ahead better so you don't have to use the accelerator too much. You seem to be doing really well for an 8month old driver, 16 years ago I was just like you. Keep going, you're doing fine.
thanks for the input brother ! just trying to learn as much as I can💯
Bro love the content! I think you should post more often... a recommendation I have is to do something more interactive with viewers... like show you making food and getting ready for bed and watching tv and shit... if that makes sense... but keep up the good work!
Great video Bruh! Thanks 🙏
It's like I'm in the cab backing up and checking my mirrors. Miss those days.
This is awesome 👌 I can't wait to become a truck driver next year
the AC is connected to the battery and as you drive it charges the battery and pulls power out of the battery
Man I miss OTR local for me gets boring Iocal I remember for my reset depending where I'm at I go explore the city around take a uber and go to a restaurants and check the city around. I was in New York for my reset once and I when to time Square and even central park there is a zoo in there when to check it out too . Lol fun times man I hated staying in the truck party one time in Newark NJ too hit the bars out there too lol
dude you sounded like you had a blast ! I would do the same but I’m kinda scared LOL
It’s been some time so I’m sure you got yourself a hard hat. Should also get yourself a set of FR coveralls. Everyone in my plant, including truckers that come in, are required to wear FR clothing.
never heard of that but I’m listening 👀
@@chez8239 just food for thought next time you go to a plant. We usually have a spare set for them when they don’t have any, but they take their fair share of 💩 when it happens
Love your vids man every time I watch your vids I get more and more motivated to get my cdl. When the next upload??
thats great ! thank you💪🏽 and should be up tomorrow 💯
So, I spent 7 hrs driving 60 miles....beyond ridiculous.
dude that sucks ! lol I’d definitely keep that in mind LOLOL
Lmao. I’ve been to Doe Run. It was a HazMat load. So I got a little xtra$. The road was narrow with ditches on each side. You gotta have skills to brave that terrain. Smack dab in the middle of no where.
@@IAM_Mike_BE I was cursing all the 😰way up those mountains & down.....
One thing about Love's, PFJ and TA/Petro truck stops is there's a good chance you're gonna get clean, solid, and quality fuel. Those mom and pop operations will fuck your shit up from what I've heard when it comes to fuel.
I heard those stories too! haha hard to stay away from cheap fuel tho😭
I had already decided to become a trucker when I started watching your vids and today I graduated from FFEs trucking academy🤟🏻
yooo!! congrats !! we out here to make changes in our lives💪💯
@@chez8239 yes sir!! 🤟🏻
Which FFE? Lancaster?
Open windows = drag means you use more fuel aircon switched on till its cold then off then on again when it starts getting warm again will be much better
Thnk u for you’re videos , im gonna start school with swift in Fontana CA , we gotta start somewhere right 🤷🏻♂️ LOL 🤣😂
yea exactly 😂😭
Wow that load that you have that's what I have coming from Pennsylvania to Texas paper rolls
nice ! haha
On a normal vehicle, the A/C is belt driven from the Engine itself. If its the same on a truck (AKA not a roof mounted unit) yeah it's gonna rob a couple mpg.
But hooking to the battery on the truck (If it's not a separate generator) will also lower your MPG. Just run the A/C it wont hurt haha.
I’m definitely learning for sure I just had to get out of that 1k$ less a week pay if you know what I mean,
@@chez8239 Hell yeah I know what you mean.
A lot of times it's from dying or diseased trees but they have tree farm were there grown fir the reason to be cut to make paper, cardboard ect
cool ! thanks bro !
Idk about other places, but down south at least, we say I-20 or 20, or whatever number the interstate is. That’s how it is here in Texas.
You look excited bro about your new job keep grinding!
that’s the move 💪💯!
Go ahead and blast that a/c it shouldn’t be noticeable on the fuel I’m pretty sure, love the vids btw.be safe out there bro.
oh bet !😂 and thanks bro you as well !👊
Yes you save fuel not running your a/c and also keep your speed down to save more fuel .. try going 55 and see how much you save .. good luck
Hey trucker Chez I just started whatching your videos and I wondered are you working for a company or owner op
I got interested in your vids because I saw you were here in Jurupa where I’m from lol
oh dude come out here trust it will change you💯👍
If you're in socal there's a good school with a really good rate in Bakersfield.
If any part of that tire is below 4/32 tread depth dot can pull you out of service: plus steer tire blow out are no joking matter.
it’s already changed (: yea I know how serious can steer is haha thanks for the concern tho👍
This Driver just gave you the best advice. Don't play with steer tires.
Currently in cdl school through Lockhart in Tennessee
Hey man really enjoy your videos, hope to one day get to see you out on the road, whenever I get to find a job. 👋👋💯💯
yesssir ! see you out there!
Get you a 3000w pure sine wave inverter! The pure sine wave is better for electronics like TVs and stuff... stay safe bro 🤙
thanx for the info im going to buy one
dude thanks !
Hey, man! Quick question: Do you still live in CA? If so, I hope all your stuff is alright with all these wildfires going on! Sending love from Germany :D
I do man and yea its crazy out here lol thanks fam👊💯
Use the ac bro when on he highway it's more efficient than having the windows open.
What’s keep killing it bro💪🏽💪🏽
yesesssir we out here 💪💯
I know I'm 9 months late but just in case you don't know yet, you can get tickets for those cracks in the windsheild...Also great video! 👍
So without a Qualcomm how do you receive loads and put in hos you know all the trucking information? Great vid as always 👊🏽🔥
I just get my load info thru txt messages lol and we use an app called gps tab eld 👍
On a big truck use the a/c it’s diesel bro it ain’t gonna waste gas.
I second you on this. Heavy duty, fuel consumption ain’t changing. Maintain low rpm.
@@careymorgan4817 thanks guys !
Do drivers who get paid mileage, get paid for all miles, even the ones going off course to get food and such? Or are they paid for only map miles from point a to point b?
only point A-B (: some pay percentage of the load just all depends on the company u work for
Well, I assume that you've already purchased your inverter but 2,000 w is all you need. A microwave only needs about 1500 peaquats when it first turns on then it will go down to about a thousand or 1,200
Like the long video it make the time go by faster keep trucking 💪
Good video man‼️ Keep up the good work‼️
I'm from louisiana! And Massachusetts is beautiful
