Glad to see a fellow SEC school win, but I have to say the officiating in this game was beyond bad. Pavia is a great story, for Vandy. Just super glad our guys didn't lose to them this season.
I don’t have a dog in this hunt, but I saw this game in a restaurant. I saw where Vandy was punting the ball to GT and they flat out tackled the receiver. I saw that there was a flag but it looked like they penalized GT?? The sound was off so I couldn’t hear what was going on. I know when you tackle the receiver that’s a penalty for the one who tackled them. Makes zero sense. I’m still trying to figrue this out. I am hoping it is in this footage. I’m watching right now.
That was a bad call, but GT played undisciplined the whole game, couldn't stop Pavia, and had two key turnovers that had nothing to do with officiating. It was 35-13 in the 4th quarter....
Bad calls are more than just bad calls. Football is a game of inches, a game of emotion and a game of momentum. A bad call at a specific point in the game and a specific place on the field can absolutely change the trajectory of the game. The fact that the score was 14-13 in a competitive game, then suddenly went to 35-13 after a flurry of unbelievably bad calls and then ended up 35-27 shows that the teams were evenly matched. The officiating skewed the outcome. We will never really know what the final score would have been in a well officiated game.
You'd only get that if you just watched the highlights and not the full game. At the end of the first half, the refs gave GT 30 yards for free to let them tie it up and Vandy still held them to a FG. During Vandy's drive following the Haynes King INT, the refs penalized Diego Pavia with a personal foul for one of his celebrations and Vandy overcame the penalty yards to still score a TD. In the 4th quarter, Vandy stopped GT short of the line to gain on 4th & 15 and the refs have GT a blindside block call to convert it for first down.
@@PatriotMapper Poor officiating is poor officiating no matter which way it goes … it doesn’t “balance” out. It makes scores and game outcomes questionable and the win and loss hollow.

After Tech took Georgia to all those OT's, I thought they'd handle Vandy....Vandy had a couple of lucky calls, and also played well. 2 teams that fought hard, a credit to their head coaches.
The DB is face guarding the receiver, doesn't look at or play the ball, and makes contact with the receiver before the ball arrives. That's pass interference. It wouldn't be an awful no call b/c the contact was pretty minimal. But it's not a bad call. Picking up the flag for the personal foul on the punt returner was a bad (non) call.
Diego Pavia is him. You can tell his personality is spread throughout the team and that he makes the other players on his team believe they can beat anyone. Made the drive from Nashville to watch the game, and was well rewarded! The Vandy player was definitely pushed some into the punt returner, though I have seen the refs still call interference more times than not. Momentum went all Vandy's way after that.
