Probably the same way that I got mine. Just walk into stores regularly and ask about news. I managed to get in on the last day of am unannounced pre-order. I had to wait three months but I got one.

By the time most people are able to get a console, they might have homebrew ready.
If it's anything like the PS4, it'll be released years after all consoles on the market are updated. Unless you're willing to keep your PS5 in this firmware for (long time). This won't help you or any future buyer to use homebrew.
Unless it’s hardware exploit. If it is then there’s no way of patching it other than releasing new hardware. Similar to how older iPhones can get jailbroken at any firmware.
By the time people buy it. It will already be patched
By that time, the Valve Steam Deck will be in the hands of all the people who pre-ordered them (Q4, 2022). :)

I got my PS2,XBOX360,Wii and PS3 when the "homebrew" scene was mature enough,I never had to buy a game for any of those consoles :-)
(and for anyone wondering no I haven't got a PS4 ,I got a PC for gaming these last years :-) I only borrowed a PS4 to play God of War and Uncharted 4 last year)
I absolutely love the idea of this being the first console we've got working in emulation before people can actually get their hands on it :)

It serves Sony right for rushing this console out when they knew they would not be able to meet demands. 2022 would have been a better release window.
@@Throbingkcoc Technically PS5 sold more than any other Playstation comparing their first years but the demand is insane. Also how does waiting for 2022 help? The chip shortage isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
@@weaverquest no but it would have given them more time to produce more units while not releasing the console at the peak of a pandemic. People stuck at home during the last year and a half is one of the primary reasons the demand was so high.

Two ways for a console manufacturer to avoid homebrew is:
1. Allow homebrew (example. Xbox).
2. Don't arbitrairly remove features live backing up save files to a USB (looking at Sony and Nintendo here).
This generation miners are much bigger threat than homebrew. With linux available there's a chance gamers will never see any PS5 because of miners.
@Balakeh Why not? It's all about cost/performance and you probably can't do better than a ps5 for $400. The US Air Force built a supercomputer cluster with like 2000 PS3s back in the day for cost/performance reasons cuz they supported Linux at the time...
Backing up savegames on USB is something that the PS5 can do...
3. Go back to making consoles custom hardware instead of off the shelf parts

How hard is it to get a custom vita//good conditioned console these days?
@@NessNT it’s not too bad on eBay. I couldn’t tell you how much I paid, as it was sometime last year, but it for sure wasn’t over $250. And that’s with going out of the way to get one in great condition. I had a bigger problem with finding reasonable prices for a carrying case and a screen protector funnily enough. 100% worth the investment IMO. It’s an awesome little device

The PlayStation 5 has sold 12.46 million units in 11 months, while the PlayStation 4 sold 12.09 million units. Month 11 for the PlayStation 5 is September 2021 and for the PlayStation 4 is September 2014. The PlayStation 4 did not reach current PlayStation 5 sales until month 12 when it sold 13.21 million units.

When the Xbox Original modding scene started, I was too young and didn't even own one.
When the Xbox 360 RGH scene started, I was there for it all and LOVED IT, but was not into programming and couldn't contribute to the homebrew scene in any way other than modding peoples consoles so they could use homebrew.
Now it's 2021 and I have spent YEARS learning multiple programming languages, including C, C++, C# (and more) and the basics of ASM. I am SO READY to make Homebrew and port games and emu's! :D

Really? With a console this new the only reason this is happening is to either play pirated roms or even pirated ps5 games. Only the people that discover these are interested in the achievements and the preservation of games. And good for them. I really respect that actually. @@steliosemmanouilidis5050 Of course. Steps need to be taken somewhere. If we wait, then we'll be behind. Some may use it for piracy, but the closed system with sigital distribution means that some games might be 'taken down' similer to the Wii Shop's closure. Yes there is overlap with piracy, but once some of these games are gone, they're gone forever. Taking the steps early means we can preserve all of them, since the game devs and copyright laws actively go against that.
@@steliosemmanouilidis5050 1. No PS3 backwards compatibility when open source Devs with no source code of og PS3 have managed to make quite an impressive progress with rpcs3
2. No browser on PS5 unlike PS4 which is a deal breaker for a lot of people
3. Emulation ofc. Unlike Xbox series x, there is no way you can "legally" emulate games on PS5
4. Sony is bringing their exclusive games to PC, if all people wanted was to pirate games, they could just wait for the game to be on PC and pirate it. Returnal is rumoured to be on PC in 2022.

@@Neucher switch is a possibility since switch hardware is comparable to ps3 hardware, so i expect yuzu to come to ps5
You are looking at 5+ years. The PS3 emulator is far away from being stable.
I'll bet you a LOT of money it won't matter because whatever environment we get through this probably won't be able to utilize all the power.

On the ps5 they took out the browser app. However, you can access this browser app via the settings. In a future update they will take away access to the browser entirely.

I got one last year for Black Friday from Best Buy
I've seen many in my state in México but it's damn expensive. I'm thinking of selling my PS4 (it's on 7.55 so it has homebrew) and my really old PS3 (the very first model) and it's games and controllers (after dumping them of course) so that I can buy a PS5; it has retrocompatibility with PS4 games anyways and it'll run them all better, without making as much noise. This also means we'll be able to install user made patches such as the Bloodborne one so we'll have 60 fps Bloodborne on PS5 without Sony making us pay more for a new enhanced edition. And we'll be able to install Linux on it too, so playing Steam games is a posibility, with proton and such.

No doubt Sony is trying to actively contact these group to "buy" (under a bug bounty program) the 2 methods so they can patch it.
If that does happen we should expect to see a release of these methods with 6 months.

I’m reminded of something I heard about capcom awhile back. While making mvc3 an American branch warned the Japanese branch that the games data could be hacked and people would find the dlc characters already on the disk. The Japanese company responded “why would someone do that? That’s illegal?” I have to wonder if this is how most Japanese tech companies see cyber security, just something not to worry about, thinking no one would ever hack their hardware or software based on some honor system.

If you downloaded pt before on your system you are able to redownload it, I was able to. There are videos on youtube that will show you how.

I may has something to do with the recent AMD PSP Security Prozessor Vulnerability which has been disclosed. And if it really relies on this flaw then it is an Hardware LVL Exploit and can not be patched without new Hardware Revisions.

One of the things I really like, is porting my game (Rockbot) to consoles. After the console ends if lifecycle, I hack them and try to get the SDK and build and adjust the game for it. My next target is the PS3, I have already ported it to PS2, PSP, Wii (gamecube would also work, I do believe, something to test in the future), Dingoo and Pocket Go. Other people did it for Xbox original and Dreamcast. This is really fun, and porting is great for learning a few tibits that are nice if you enjoy knowing about little/big endian and such.
PS3 port is a bold claim, better go xbox 360 way

Just fisnished watching the Team Xecuter video and this pops up, nice.
Ok some small things. first off this is an evolution. we have had web kit exploits since basically day one but this is the first kernel exploit.. or at least fw level hacks. It's a chain you have to run, so we have been able to bug out the browser but not much else till now. But yeah as you said discovery phase, getting into the console is coming along nicely, now we got tools, dev environments and homebrew to make. There is A LOT that goes into the backend of this and its coming along nicely from what i'v seen.
All root keys, for the exploited console. From what I understand it's the same as the switch where the root keys are different for each console. It's still gonna be easy to dump them but it's going to be on a per console basis, not a one and done we have all the keys ever.
But yeah I think they are / we should just wait for the next firmware update to hear any more about this, if it gets patched in the next ofw then cool, if not then it will still be dark.

TheFlow is a very fantastic and incredibly skilled hacker but after following him and his work for several years now, I can almost certainly say "have more hope in Team Failoverflow". TheFlow is a developer with a lot of common sense. As a one-man-army, he knows better than to recklessly release mods for a current-gen Sony flagship.

Security researcher is a hilarious term, I did a lot is “security research“ on my Dreamcast
All that happened on Dreamcast was the Mii CD ISO was cracked. Pirated DC Games were horrible anyway and lacked the actual HCCD ROM extract needed to PROPERLY run Dreamcast titles.

The fact that these two independent leaks going on Twitter to announce the exploits means they already have what they need incase Sony begins the inevitable firmware patching in the future.
I mean, Sony may attempt to patch future software, but they can already decrypt all they want of the current stuff
So yeah, not much Sony can do now to stop them from using information gained from this whole thing

heh heh ^_^ I'm keeping my PS5 disc version that i got at my local Bets Buy in-store on the morning of September 23rd via camping from 10:40 PM on September 22nd at night, it's in box, as i haven't even opened it yet!
I wanted to wait until i purchase a 4K 120hz HDTV for it on this up coming black Friday! I'll give it a full year from this past Sunday, the day they released the news for a exploited 4.0 firmware is released.

As time progresses, there are more eyes and skilled people to look into these things. Perhaps one year is a marvel of success in security to this point.

Decrypted firmware file AND the decryption key is actually a great deal. Now the firmware can be used to build an emulator over it.

Same here. There was too much evidence about PS1/2/3 playback/backcompat given by devs in 2020, and that was ultimately scrapped by Sony execs.

Just give all hackers chance to find exploits while there is limited amount of affected units. -> mass produce consoles with all security fixes for years without easily available exploits.

Nah, it's bad for reputation + scarcity after release greatly diminishes hype about the product. And exploits are kinda easy to patch novadays anyway.
It's really about current chip shortage.
