Of all the apocalyptic movie scenerios this one is by far the easiest to survive and prepare for.
Make an underground bunker, with the only entrance inside a salted pool. Sure you'd get a bit wet but thats hardly an issue. Maybe have a solid steel entrance inside a grotto beneath a VERY salty pool.
The pool doesn't even need to be big or deep, not does the bunker need to be big. Its only for few hours. Heck, you'd have 15 years to prepare and i imagine bunker building would have exploded in popularity making it cheap to get something made.

So they know where the monsters come from, they have about 24 hours of warning before they show up, people have some inclinations that they don’t like salt (presumably people out in boats were fine?). Yet they didn’t have massive tanks of salt water ready to start spraying into the breaches the moment the first monsters appear?
Those facilities they built over the breaches were totally useless. Even with the warnings leading up to the breach, they weren’t at all on alert and just had workers walking around ready to get eaten. How hard is it to setup some cameras, alarms and some reinforced doors that could at least keep out the smaller monsters until a big bull thing shows up?
    This isn’t complicated stuff.

I’m surprised no one just gets on a ship to live on the ocean which is a natural defense due to its saltwater content. They could make weapons that are delivery systems for high pressurized blasts of seawater, both automated as well as stuff that could be used manually. Alas, people in horror (is this considered horror?) films need to be somewhat dumb and shortsighted or else there’s not many chances for scary stuff to befall the characters if they turn out to be resourceful and forward thinking…
